Roman The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians (PAARL) had a busy 2007 and conducted several knowledge enhancements activities for the year. It started with the 34th Annual General Assembly and Induction/ Awards Ceremonies on January 26, 2007 at the Centro Escolar University. Dr. Maria Cristina D. Padolina, President, Centro Escolar University inducted the officers and delivered the inspirational message. The speakers during the Conference were Mrs. Corazon M. Nera, Chair, Board for Librarians, Mrs. 9 PAARL Board of Directors for 2008 Lourdes David, Director of Libraries, Ateneo de Manila University and Ms. Elvira Lapuz, College Librarian, University of the 10 List of PAARL Paid Members for 2007 Philippines-Diliman. 10 Individual Members Mrs. Jocelyn Balangue, Acquisitions Librarian, De La Salle University and PAARL’s Treasurer was the speaker in the 2nd forum 18 Institutional Members which was held on July 26, 2007 at the SM Megatrade Hall. He was elected President by ADB’s Board of Governors and assumed office in April 2013. Before joining ADB, Mr. Nakao was the Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance of Japan. In a career spanning more than three decades, Mr. Nakao has gained extensive experience in international finance and development. He has held senior positions in the Ministry of Finance in Japan, which he joined in 1978, including Director-General of the International Bureau, where he fostered close ties with leading figures in the Asia-Pacific region, and G20 nations. He was assigned as Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Washington D.C., between 2005 and 2007, and from 1994 to 1997 served as economist and advisor at the International Monetary Fund. He has published books and numerous papers on financial and economic issues, and in 2010 and 2011 was a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo. Born in 1956, Mr. Nakao holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. Although its primary interest is in linguistic theory, it also publishes papers on the application of theory to language teaching, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, anthropological linguistics, etc. Papers on applied linguistics should, however, be chiefly concerned with the principles which underlie specific techniques rather than with the mechanical aspects of such techniques. Articles are published in English,although papers written in Filipino, the national language of the Philippines, will occasionally appear. Since the Linguistic Society of the Philippines is composed of members whose paramount interests are the Philippine languages, papers on these and related languages are given priority in publication. Chiara Lourice Acedera of 4-Esther participated in the Bangkok Falcons Gymnastics Championships held last June 3-4, 2017 at NIST International School, Bangkok, Thailand. She ranked 6th among the 36 athletes who competed in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 1 Senior division. Their team won 2nd place over-all. She won a Bronze Medal for Floor Exercise and ranked 4th for Vault and Balance Beam events. 2. Chiara Lourice Acedera of 4-Esther participated in the Assumption College Antipolo Gymnastics Meet held last July 30, 2017. She competed for the first time in Level 2-Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. She won 4 Gold medals in all events Floor Exercise, Vault, Balance Beam and Bars. 3. Amber Florence Endriano of 3-St. Maria Goretti participated in the Gymnastic Academy 2nd St. Marie Eugene Gymanastics Cup 2017 held last July 30, 2017 at Assumption Antipolo.
