Le Jury I The Jury LE JURY I THE JURY Francis Ford COPPOLA Président du Jury I President of the Jury مخشج، كبتت عٕىبسُٔ َمىتح Réalisateur, scénariste & producteur Director, screenwriter & producer Etats-Unis I USA © Mihai Malaimare Jr « Le Royaume du Maroc fait partie de mes endroits préférés au monde, et c'est donc avec une joie toute particulière que j'assisterai au Festival International du Film de Marrakech. » Francis Ford Coppola 3 « The Kingdom of Morocco is among my most favorite places on earth, and thus the Marrakech International Film Festival is a joy to attend. My Paternal Grandmother was born in North Africa (Tunisia) and I remember well the stories she told. All that personal history plus the fact that Morocco was the first country to recognize the American Colonies as an independent nation makes me feel most welcome. As such it doesn’t have the same structure as a “normal” film reference book. Our aim is to promote the free exchange of ideas among fellow professionals, the cinematographer, their camera crew, manufacturer's, rental houses and related businesses. Kodak, Arri, Aaton, Panavision, Otto Nemenz, Clairmont, Optex, VFG, Schneider, Tiffen, Fuji, Panasonic, Thomson, K5600, BandPro, Lighttools, Cooke, Plus8, SLF, Atlab and Fujinon are among the companies represented. As we have grown, we have added lists for HD, AC's, Lighting, Post etc. expanding on the original professional cinematography list started in 1996. We started with one list and 70 members in 1996, we now have, In addition to the original list aimed soley at professional cameramen, lists for assistant cameramen, docco’s, indies, video and basic cinematography. Thomas Schatz showed unflagging confidence in the project‟s value and in my ability to finish it. Sharon Strover offered feedback and encouragement at key moments and generously provided workspace in the crucial last months. James Hay was a wonderful source of challenging questions and reassurance. Bruce Hunt and Nancy Schiesari provided new perspectives on this subject that I greatly appreciated. Also, William Christ and Jennifer Henderson kindly hired me to teach at Trinity University for several semesters running and another Trinity colleague, Patrick Keating, helped invigorate this project with his research and our conversations. My graduate colleagues Kyle Barnett, Avi Santo, Hollis Griffin, Alison Perlman, and Holly Custard have encouraged me with welcome feedback and timely commiseration. The cinematographers and filmmakers that spoke with me were remarkably generous with their time. There are too many to thank here, but Curtis Clark, the chairman of the ASC Technology Committee, deserves a special mention for sharing his unique perspective and great knowledge.

DECEMBER 2010 $5.95Canada $6.95 MEMBER PORTRAIT Bruce Logan, ASC wasn’t allowed to see a movie until I was 10 years old, and “I when I finally saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the forbidden fruit was beyond delicious. I suppose watching Journey to the Center of the Earth, In Search of the Castaways and The Time Machine steered me down my own career path, which has included the films 2001: A Space Odyssey, Tron, Star Wars and Airplane! “American Cinematographer was my window onto the souls of my fellow artists, because I never really had any contact with other directors of photography until I joined the ASC. I still look through that window today to see all the innovative ways my peers solve the same problems I am faced with. AC is an invaluable tool for staying current in my chosen profession.” — Bruce Logan, ASC ©photo by Owen Roizman, ASC TO SUBSCRIBE BY PHONE: Call (800) 448-0145 (U.S. only) (323) 969-4333 or visit the ASC Web site WWW.THEASC.COM IItt startsrats ttss with thehthtiw glass...alge ssss .. ““DDesspp ieti mmpprroo dev d ffii tl rraa noit ““II enhcSevol tS-enOredie oopp otnitliub RREEEDD ns’ wen MMXX raeniL PPoo ral iizzzeerrss ffoo oiretnir rrss. osnes rr,, redienhcS IIRR ffii etl rrss era TThheeyy mwolla ehteldnahotem ellits ssss nocotlaitne tnetsisn llyy ne ssuu er occ clanoisa rroo l-sso lsso iigg noenihsth trruu be llaa hsnehwskc itooh nngg ni oc mmppleexx wsnoi ivahtuohtiw nngg ot rb iigg lnusth iigg iwth t aehh vvyy NNDD.” lhtiwlaed iiggh ith nngg ”.
