The B-Boy Summit Internationally Acclaimed B-Boy/B-Girl Event
THE B-BOY SUMMIT INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED B-BOY/B-GIRL EVENT Produced by No Easy Props OVERVIEW The B-boy Summit continues to be a major trendsetter in Hip-Hop street dance, art and music culture. Established in 1994, The Summit presented innovative ideas in Hip-Hop culture, offering a conference forum complete with competitions, performances, panels, workshops, and a marketplace for consumer friendly products marketed toward the Hip-Hop community. Never content with success, The B-boy Summit continues its mission to bring the hottest street dance, art, and music above ground to the masses. The B-boy Summit has grown into an internationally acclaimed 3 day festival incorporating all aspects of Hip-Hop in different plateaus, including the most intense battles, rawest circles, theatre performances, a DJ/MC Talent Showcase and live aerosol art painting. The B-boy Summit was created in 1994 out of the need for a community orientated Hip-Hop event that encompassed knowledge of the history of Hip-Hop culture and the skills of B-boying and B-girling. At that point in time B-boys and B-girls didn’t have a platform in which to come together, dance and pay homage to the traditional dance of Hip-Hop. Each year the event has expanded to encompass B-boys, B-girls, MCs, Aerosol Artists, and DJs from across the globe, steadily building into what is now the foremost Hip-Hop cultural event in the world. More recently, The Summit has become one of the most important events for Lockers, Poppers, Freestyle and House Dancers to take part in during The Summit’s Funk Fest. -

However, controversy surrounds which specific area in New York created the cultural phenomenon, called Hip Hop. The history concerning which part of New York created this influential and multi-billion dollar movement is documented in 1985. The battle rap included rappers from Queensbridge (MC Shan & The Juice Crew) versus rappers from the South Bronx (KRS-One & Boogie Down Productions). Even though, New York, is noted as the birthplace for Hip Hop culture, Hip Hop’s roots were developed before one city or state declared ownership of the cultures’ creation. -

A Study of the Nonverbal Emblems and Regulators Used in International B-Boy Competitions
Breaking Down The Codes: A Study of Nonverbal Emblems Used in International B-Boy Competitions Kelsi Watanabe Linfield College Abstract This study explored the use of nonverbal emblems and regulators in international b-boy competitions. Using semiotics, a lexicon of the emblems and regulators was recorded. Then the dimensions from a theory of semantics of dance were applied to understand how b-boy crews (dance teams) from around the world use gesture to communicate with the audience, judges, and other crews. The study analyzed how culture influences the use of emblems and regulators in the intercultural exchange that occurs during the international b-boy competitions, such as Battle of the Year (BOTY) and R16 World Series. Four videos from the 2013 and 2014 BOTY and 2015 R16 were analyzed. The study concluded that cultural dimensions such as collectivism and indulgence influence emblem selection, intensity, and frequency. These nonverbal elements exhibit an overall impact on the battle and the determination of the winner. The Freshest Kids in China August 6, 2010 in Uncategorized by The China Beat | 1 comment R16 at the Shanghai World Expo By George Zhi Zhao June 19, 2010 I hear the voice of the late James Brown shouting over the booming speakers, and I watch a crowd of dancers move and contort to every minute rhythm and sound that is being controlled and manipulated by the DJ. The energy in the air is tense, as different b-boys (breakdancers) take turns stepping inside a circle of bodies, all asserting themselves in back-to-back solo performances of gravity-defying sequences of dance movements. The competitive performance of breakdancing happens all over the world, in metropolises ranging from New York City to Tokyo, from Moscow to São Paulo.
