The album „Sehr Kosmisch Ganz Progisch“ took nine years to write and record (not full time, of course, but I did spend a lot of time, especially in the writing process). I would probably call it a long time project, as we do try to challenge the whole idea of what a band is, and not a band. And we are working on new material. … Why this funny project name and these funny song titles? The whole project was born out of my love of Krautrock. To be more precise, it´s more than just Krautrock. I am indeed a lover of all German things. From wine to literature and art to the beautiful landscapes and towns and cities. I love it. The titles on the album were working titles. I intended to change them, as they are indeed rather silly (see e.g.Das Trinklied vom Jammer der Erde). But then I just thought, who cares? It is what it is. It is an album where I interpret some aspects of German culture from an outsider´s point of view.

    In These Murky Waters – In These Murky Waters (49:36, CD, LP, Digital, Apollon Records / Just For Kicks, 2019) Auch wenn Mattias Olsson vor allem in jungen Jahren als Schlagzeuger von Änglagård im Prog-Bereich in nachhaltige Erscheinung trat, so hat er seitdem ein musikalisch sehr breit gefächertes Territorium an unterschiedlichen Kreativzentren durchschritten. Allein auf diesen Seiten war er in den letzten Jahren bei so unterschiedlichen Bands und Projekten wie z.B. White Willow, Il Tempio Delle Clessidre, Necromonkey, VLY, Pixie Ninja, Weserbergland oder The Winter Tree als Produzent oder Musiker beteiligt bzw. vertreten, wie er natürlich zuletzt mit seinem abstrakten Soloprojekt Molesome ganz eigene Wege beschritt. Aufgenommen in den Roth Händle Studios in Stockholm hat sich Mattias Olsson bei diesem Projekt mit der schwedischen Sängerin / Texterin Ewik Rodell zusammengetan. Herausgekommen ist bei dieser Zusammenarbeit ein fragiles Geflecht von zwölf Songs, die nur auf sehr sparsame, minimalistische Rhythmik setzt, dafür aber eine Symbiose aus Tasten (Mellotron, Chamberlin, Optigon, Orchestron) und Stimme vollziehen. Ursprünglich entstand diese Zusammenarbeit aus der Idee, dass Ewik Rodell auf der Suche nach neuen Sounds für ein Konzeptalbum war und sie über gemeinsame Freude auf Mattias Olsson stieß. Letztendlich entstand daraus eine fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit, die instrumental komplett auf die Vergangenheit setzt, aber trotz des nostalgischen Flairs etwas recht Unverwechselbares entstehen ließ.     Tom Doncourt & Mattias Olsson’s Cathedral – Tom Doncourt & Mattias Olsson’s Cathedral (35:57, CD, digital, Roth Händle Recordings , 2020) Mattias Olsson ist ein guter, alter und hochgeschätzter Bekannter auf diesen Seiten. Der ungemein produktive Musiker, Tontechniker und Produzent ist verbunden mit so überaus wohlklingenden Namen wie z.B. Änglagård, The Devil’s Staircase, Döskalle, Il Tempio delle Clessidre, In These Murky Waters, Isobar, Kaukasus, dem sehr empfehlenswerten „Mellodrama“-Film, Molesome, Nanook Of The North, Necromonkey, Pineforest Crunch, Pixie Ninja, Malcolm Smith, Vak, VLY, Weserbergland, White Willow, The Winter Tree und vermutlich noch einigen musikalischen Kostbarkeiten mehr. Das uns hier beschäftigende „Cathedral“-Projekt hat zutiefst traurige, aber auch spannende Hintergründe. Traurig, weil Olssons musikalischer Partner auf diesem Album, der Museums- Präparator, Musiker und Experte für Mellotrons und Chamberlins sowie generell seltene bis obskure Instrumente Tom Doncourt vergangenes Jahr an einer in seinem erstgenannten Beruf erworbenen Lungenkrankheit verstarb. Fesselnd, weil sich das Projekt auf Cathedral zurück bezieht, die eine interessante Historie hatten und eineneigenständigen Sound vorweisen konnten, in dem dennoch Elemente von King Crimson, Greenslade, Genesis oder Gentle Giant recht gut erkennbar sind. An einem Album, das den Geist ihrer ehemaligen Bands Cathedral bzw. Änglagård beschwören sollte, hatten Doncourt und Olsson, wie letzterer im Booklet erzählt, bereits ein Jahr lang mit Unterbrechungen immer wieder gearbeitet. Teils gemeinsam in Doncourts „Tower Mews“ Studio in Long Island, wenn Olsson in den USA weilte, teils in Olssons berühmt-berüchtigtem „Roth Händle“-Studio in Sollentuna bei Stockholm, teils aber auch einzeln bzw. in Tele-Zusammenarbeit. Als Doncourt im März 2019 starb, waren erst zwei der Songs „zu 95%“ fertig.
