He was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1932 and played trumpet as well as piano with many local groups. After attending Clark College, he toured with Tab Smith and Little Willie John before he moved to New York City in January of 1959. Donald Byrd heard him, and Byrd was the leader of Pearson’s first recording session. Soon Pearson was playing with the Benny Golson-Art Farmer Jazztet. Pearson became the musical director for Nancy Wilson, as well as continuing to tour and record with Donald Byrd. In 1963, Blue Note Records producer and musical director Ike Quebec passed away, and Pearson became Blue Note’s A&R director, as well as make his own albums. RB: I came to New York in the late ‘60s and caught the RANDY tail-end of the classic studio days. So I was really in the right place at the right time. Marvin Stamm, Joe Shepley and Burt Collins used me as a sub for some studio dates and I got involved in the classic studio when everybody was there at the same time, wearing suits and ties, you know?     LA MUSICA D’AVANGUARDIA (provenienza sconosciuta!!) Presentazione Questo volume si propone di fornire una panoramica, la piu' aggiornata possibile, sui fenomeni musicali che esulano dalle correnti tradizionali del rock, del jazz e della classica, e che rappresentano in senso lato l'attuale "avanguardia". In tal senso l'avanguardia, piu' che un movimento monolitico e omogeneo, appare come una federazione piu' o meno aperta di tante scuole diverse e separate. Alcune costituiscono la cosiddetta "contemporanea" (capitoli 1-7), figlia dell'avanguardia classica; altre sono scaturite della sperimentazione dei complessi rock (capitoli 8-10); altre ancora appartengono al nuovo jazz, e non fanno altro che legittimare una volta per tutte il jazz nel novero della musica "intellettuale" (capitoli 11-13); la new age, infine, sfrutta le suggestioni delle scuole precedenti (capitoli 14-17). Piuttosto che un'introduzione generale ci sembra allora piu' opportuno fornire una presentazione capitolo per capitolo: 1. L'avanguardia popolare. Per avanguardia si intendeva un tempo soltanto l'avanguardia classica. Communication with the man behind this project started very quickly and turned out to be substantial. And it became obvious how wide his influence is – see below. The album „Sehr Kosmisch Ganz Progisch“ took nine years to write and record (not full time, of course, but I did spend a lot of time, especially in the writing process). I would probably call it a long time project, as we do try to challenge the whole idea of what a band is, and not a band. And we are working on new material. … Why this funny project name and these funny song titles? The whole project was born out of my love of Krautrock. To be more precise, it´s more than just Krautrock. I am indeed a lover of all German things. From wine to literature and art to the beautiful landscapes and towns and cities. I love it. The titles on the album were working titles. I intended to change them, as they are indeed rather silly (see e.g.Das Trinklied vom Jammer der Erde). But then I just thought, who cares? It is what it is. It is an album where I interpret some aspects of German culture from an outsider´s point of view.
