There are benevolent black superheroes, like Storm, played most famously in 2006 by Halle Berry (of whom more later) in X-Men: The Last Stand , and Frozone, voiced by Samuel L. This is why Will Smith and Wesley Snipes are so unusual: they have both played superheroes – Smith the ham-fi sted boozer Hancock , and Snipes the vampire-human hybrid Blade . Pulling away from the parallel reality of superheroes, the two actors themselves offer case studies.

AL SCHMITT Al Schmitt is a renowned recording and mix engineer whose acclaimed music career has spanned more than half a century. During that time Al has been awarded more accolades than any of his contemporaries including holding the record for most Grammy awards for a recording or mix engineer. To date, Al is the recipient of 23 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Trustees Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. In 2014, Al received the Honorary Doctorate from Berklee School of Music. Al is a New York native, of whom Barbra Streisand states, "as a fellow Brooklyn-ite, we speak the same language." He has worked on more than 150 gold and platinum albums, and was inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 1997 to honor his technical and creative excellence in recording and sound. In the early days of his career, working at RCA, Al engineered albums for such legendary artists as Sam Cooke, Rosemary Clooney and Henry Mancini, featuring the Grammy Award winning title, "Moon River", which also won an Academy Award for Best Song, and for "Breakfast at Tiffany's." During this time he also worked on scoring for multiple motion pictures as well. In the mid 60's, while demand for his engineering services grew, Al also aspired to become an independent producer. In addition to recording all the last records of the legendary Sam Cooke, during this same period, Al also worked with Ann Margaret, Bobby Darin and Eddie Fisher. He also worked with newer, up and coming artists of the time including Jefferson Airplane, Jackson Browne and Neil Young.

  • A History of Electroacoustics: Hollywood 1956 – 1963 by Peter T
A History of Electroacoustics: Hollywood 1956 – 1963 By Peter T. Humphrey A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Music and the Designated Emphasis in New Media in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in charge: Professor James Q. Davies, Chair Professor Nicholas de Monchaux Professor Mary Ann Smart Professor Nicholas Mathew Spring 2021 Abstract A History of Electroacoustics: Hollywood 1956 – 1963 by Peter T. Humphrey Doctor of Philosophy in Music and the Designated Emphasis in New Media University of California, Berkeley Professor James Q. Davies, Chair This dissertation argues that a cinematic approach to music recording developed during the 1950s, modeling the recording process of movie producers in post-production studios. This approach to recorded sound constructed an imaginary listener consisting of a blank perceptual space, whose sonic-auditory experience could be controlled through electroacoustic devices. This history provides an audiovisual genealogy for electroacoustic sound that challenges histories of recording that have privileged Thomas Edison’s 1877 phonograph and the recording industry it generated. It is elucidated through a consideration of the use of electroacoustic technologies for music that centered in Hollywood and drew upon sound recording practices from the movie industry. This consideration is undertaken through research in three technologies that underwent significant development in the 1950s: the recording studio, the mixing board, and the synthesizer. The 1956 Capitol Records Studio in Hollywood was the first purpose-built recording studio to be modelled on sound stages from the neighboring film lots. The mixing board was the paradigmatic tool of the recording studio, a central interface from which to direct and shape sound.

The AT&T contracts with programmers for the content displayed on U-verse TV service periodically expire, or may be terminated, but are usually re-negotiated or extended with no interruption or change for our U-verse members. Additionally, from time to time it is necessary to change channel line-ups as well as television package contents. The programming changes set forth below may occur as follows: July 2019 As previously noticed, the AT&T contract with the programmer for the following channels is set to expire. While these channels will continue to be available to U-verse members so long as AT&T has the rights to carry them, if a reasonable agreement cannot be reached with the programmer the programming will no longer be available. AT&T may modify the channel location for the programming by moving them from their current channel location to a channel between 9501 – 9599, and if a reasonable longer term agreement cannot be reached with the programmers, we may lose the rights to carry them (listed in alphabetical order) on or after July 2019: Family Entertainment TV (channel 578); EVINE Live and EVINE Live in HD; Heroes & Icons (channel 137 and 1137 in HD); MBC America (channel 3643); MeTV (channel 23, 136 and 1023 and 1136 in HD). • List of Directv Channels (United States)
List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama.

CALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY, POMONA ACADEMIC SENATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS COMMITTEE REPORT TO THE ACADEMIC SENATE AP-036-156 BACHELOR OF MUSIC FOR SEMESTERS Academic Programs Committee Date: 05/14/2016 Executive Committee Received and Forwarded Date: 05/18/2016 Academic Senate Date: 05/25/2016 First Reading 06/01/2016 Second Reading AP-036-156, Bachelor of Music For Semesters 2 BACKGROUND: The Department of Music has put forward a referral for a Bachelor of Music for semesters. This is a new program. The Bachelor of Music degree program provides training for gifted students who show promise and capability of becoming professional performers, educators, and composers. Students will gain subject-matter competence in music through a series of courses in music theory and composition, music literature and history, applied music via studio classes and performance ensembles, music technology, conducting, and pedagogy. Options in this degree program include Performance, Music Education and Composition, and will be presented with confidence for accreditation to the National Association of Schools of Music. Our “learn-by-doing” philosophy is distinctive in its pedagogical methods as students get hands-on experience via recording and technology labs, master classes with professional musicians, service learning classes and a variety of performance opportunities. All of these activities are designed to prepare our students for the professional world. The justification for offering the program at this time lies in the growing demand from students and the musical community for this professional degree and the additional opportunities it affords. Cal Poly Pomona will provide a relevant societal need by offering the professional degree (BM) as an affordable option to the geographic region and society.
