    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 10, 2021 MacKINNON, MATTHEWS AND McDAVID VOTED HART TROPHY FINALISTS NEW YORK (June 10, 2021) – Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews and Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid are the three finalists for the 2020-21 Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team,” the National Hockey League announced today. Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Hart Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winners of the 2021 NHL Awards presented by Bridgestone will be revealed during the Stanley Cup Semifinals and Stanley Cup Final, with exact dates, format and times to be announced. Following are the finalists for the Hart Trophy, in alphabetical order: Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche MacKinnon placed fourth in the NHL with a career-high 1.35 points per game (20-45—65 in 48 GP) to propel the Avalanche’s top-ranked offense to the franchise’s third Presidents’ Trophy (also 1996-97 and 2000-01). MacKinnon finished among the League leaders in shots on goal (3rd; 206), power-play points (3rd; 25), assists (5th; 45), points (8th; 65) and power-play assists (t-10th; 17) despite missing eight of Colorado’s 56 contests. He did so on the strength of a career-best 15-game point streak from March 27 – April 28 (9-17—26), the longest by any player in 2020-21 as well as the longest by a member of the Avalanche since 2006-07 (Paul Stastny: 20 GP).

    100 YEARS OF HOCKEY Friends of Poplar Point and District Memorial Rink For the past ten years a grassroots group of motivated Manitobans, known as the Friends of Poplar Point and District Memorial Rink, have been working hard to preserve a piece of Canadian hockey heritage. !e small town of Poplar Point (located 40 minutes west of Winnipeg on Hwy 26) has been a hotbed of hockey for the past century. Many Hockey Hall of Fame members got their start on the ice in Poplar Point. Notable National Hockey League players from Poplar Point include Bryan Hextall Sr, Lin Bend, Bryan Hextall Jr and Dennis Hextall. !e town produced hockey builders Addie Bell and Jack Bend; 1942 Memorial Cup Champions the Portage and District Terriers and 1957 Provincial A and B Champions, the Poplar Point Memorials. !e rink had fallen into disrepair and was at risk of being destroyed in 2001, spurring Warren Bend and Perry Dickenson to rally a group of concerned citizens with the goal of stalling the imminent demolition and preserving Poplar Point and District Memorial Rink. !ey "rst had the rink declared a Municipal Heritage Site; a number of partners, including Siobhan Richardson Foundation, Community Places Program, Provincial Heritage Sites and Community Foundation of Portage and District, came on board to fund the restoration; then the team set to work replacing and restoring the building’s domed tin roof, refurbishing the rink’s boards, remodeling guest facilities and spectator lounge and installing a geothermal energy system. Today, the restoration project is again a hub for the community o#ering a free skate venue for families (the volunteers even managed to keep the ice in throughout the decade long restoration).

    UNPREDICTABILITY CONTINUES INTO SECOND ROUND OF 2019 PLAYOFFS The 2019 Conference Finals are comprised of two of the top six teams from the regular-season – Boston (No. 2) and San Jose (No. 6), who finished second in their respective conferences – and two teams that ranked outside the top 10 – Carolina (No. 11) and St. Louis (No. 12). * The Blues and Hurricanes’ journeys to the third round are each marked by strong performances in the 2019 calendar year – St. Louis ranked last overall in the NHL standings on Jan. 2 while Carolina also found itself among the bottom nine on that day. * This marked the fourth time in six years under the current playoff format - and 14th time in NHL history - that the second round required multiple Game 7s. The two Second Round Game 7s garnered record in- market ratings for all four clubs involved. * St. Louis advanced to the Conference Finals by winning the third Game 7 this postseason to require overtime - the most ever in one playoff year. * There have been 15 overtime contests this postseason - five more than the entire 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs (10 of 84 GP). * The Hurricanes won a pair of one-goal games to take a 2-0 series lead back to Raleigh, where they set a franchise record for attendance and completed their first-ever best-of-seven sweep.
