James Seymour Brett Has Garnered a Worldwide Reputation As a Versatile, International Talent, Scoring Projects in All Genres and Media C/O Abbey Road Studios, 3 Abbey Road (’hot, haus) n. an environment that encourages rapid development London NW8 9AY, United Kingdom tel +44 (0) 20 7446 7446 fax +44 (0) 20 7446 7448 email [email protected] James Seymour Brett has garnered a worldwide reputation as a versatile, international talent, scoring projects in all genres and media. His style ranges from the large, upscale orchestral grandeur of BATMAN LIVE, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, THE FAST & THE FURIOUS LIVE & PLANET 51, to smaller, more intimate works such as L’HISTOIRE DE NOS PETITES MORTS, OUTPOST, Jason Flemyng’s EAT LOCALS and THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS. James has enjoyed success on Network TV with two seasons of the cult drama HEX for Sky 1 and CRUSOE for NBC. Also in his early career he was fortunate to have worked with the late Michael Kamen on projects such as BAND OF BROTHERS and FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON. More recently, James has collaborated with Roland Emmerich on major film work – INDEPENDENCE DAY 2: RESURGENCE, WHITE HOUSE DOWN, 2012, 10,000 BC, ANONYMOUS and with Stephen Frears on LAY THE FAVOURITE, the latter of which demanded a quirky, Americana-style score covering rock, blues & folk genres starring Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta Jones. James has also had the opportunity to work with other renowned directors providing all the arrangements for David Frankel’s operatic biopic ONE CHANCE, Mike Newell’s THE GUERNSEY LITERARY & POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY, John Wells’ acclaimed AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, and providing additional music to Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA and Ridley Scott’s ALIEN: COVENANT. 2012 was a busy year for James as he masterminded and conducted the QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS with the BBC, working on compositions, new arrangements and collaborations alongside artists such as Elton John, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox and Stevie Wonder. He also oversaw the release of his specially commissioned LONDON OLYMPICS 2012 ALBUM. James’ previous projects include composing and writing arrangements for ALIEN VS. PREDATOR and ELLA ENCHANTED. James’ successful orchestral score for the VIRGIN TRAINS advertising campaign was nominated for the 2005 BTAA Craft Award (original music). Other commercial work includes VIRGIN ATLANTIC, THREE, MAC DONALDS and two campaigns for VODAFONE, FLORA and STELLA ARTOIS. After graduating from The Royal Academy Of Music in 1997 James was immediately hired by the acclaimed composer MICHAEL KAMEN. James’ further contribution to film scores includes writing collaborations with Kamen on features such as THE EVENT HORIZON, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, THE IRON GIANT, FREQUENCY, X-MEN THE MOVIE, and the epic mini series, BAND OF BROTHERS produced by Steven Spielberg. In this period James also co-produced and provided additional score on Paramount’s AGAINST THE ROPES. James has also been assigned prestigious roles as musical director on other noteworthy live projects helping to mastermind the ambitious and groundbreaking concert that saw METALLICA pair up with THE SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA as assistant Musical Director. The album has since sold over 5 million copies worldwide. In 2002 James went on to plan and execute, as assistant Musical Director and in close partnership with the BBC, PARTY AT THE PALACE (part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations). This unprecedented and star-studded event was broadcast live to a multi-million audience worldwide with a gold CD in less than a week. James co-ordinated and arranged many of the collaborations both with traditional rock pairings and new orchestral interpretations. THE KARLOVY VARY FESTIVAL TO HONOR ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR BARRY LEVINSON At this year’s Karlovy Vary festival, screenwriter-producer-director Barry Levinson, who won an Academy Award for Rain Man, will accept the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. The Karlovy Vary festival continues its tradition of recognizing the most important personalities of world cinema, the likes of which include directors William Friedkin, Jerry Schatzberg, and Ken Loach, and screenwriter Paul Laverty. In his writing and directing capacity, Academy Award winner and five-time nominee Barry Levinson deftly combines personal stories with an often satirical look at society, and his movies have fundamentally influenced numerous young filmmakers. Barry Levinson established himself as a writer of successful television shows. With his onetime wife, Valerie Curtin, he then wrote the movie script for Norman Jewison’s courtroom drama …and justice for all (1979), which brought them an Oscar nomination. He debuted as a director with the comedy-drama Diner (1982), receiving his second Oscar nomination for the script. Ivan Král, a Czech musician based in the US, co- wrote the film music. Subsequent titles confirmed his reputation with critics and audiences: The Natural (1984) with Robert Redford, Tin Men (1987) with Richard Dreyfuss and Danny DeVito, and Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) with Robin Williams. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the legendary picture Rain Man (1988), awarded four Oscars (e.g. Best Director for Barry Levinson) and numerous other honors, including the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and the David di Donatello for Best Foreign Film.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016) ● Rated PG 13 for sequences of sci fi action and destruction, and for some language ● $165,000,000 budget ● 2 hrs ● Directed by Roland Emmerich ● Produced by Lynn Harris, Matti Leshem, Douglas C. Merrifield ● The film was produced by Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures QUICK THOUGHTS ● Phil Svitek ● Marisa Serafini ● Demetri Panos ● Sara Stretton DEVELOPMENT ● The possibility of a sequel to Independence Day had long been discussed, and the film's producer and writer, Dean Devlin, once stated that the world's reaction to the September 11 attacks influenced him to strongly consider making a sequel to the film ● Soon after the success of the first film, 20th Century Fox paid Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. However, after completing the script, Devlin didn't turn in the script and instead gave the money back to the studio, as he felt the story didn't live up to the first film. It was only approximately 15 years later, that Devlin met up with Roland Emmerich to try again, having felt that they had "cracked" a story for a sequel ● Devlin began writing an outline for a script with Emmerich, but in May 2004, Emmerich said he and Devlin had attempted to "figure out a way how to continue the story", but that this ultimately did not work, and the pair abandoned the idea ● In October 2009, Emmerich said he once again had plans for a sequel, and had since considered the idea of making two sequels to form a trilogy ● On June 24, 2011, Devlin confirmed that he and Emmerich had found an idea for the sequels and had written a treatment for it ● In October 2011, however, discussions for Will Smith returning were halted, due to Fox's refusal to provide the $50 million salary demanded by Smith for the two sequels ● Emmerich, however, made assurances that the films would be shot backtoback, regardless of Smith's involvement ○ Resurgence filmmakers were reported to be preparing versions of the film both with and without Will Smith.
