Jun 15, 2016 Regular Council Meeting Page 6 of 99 Delivering the Page 7 of99 2016 Assessment Update Municipality of Greenstone – Council Meeting June 15th, 2016 Presentation By: Chad Tanner, Account Manager PROPERTY ASSESSMENT & PROPERTY TAXES The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation determines Current Value Assessments and classifications for all properties The Ontario in Ontario. Property Page 8 of99 Taxpayer The Provincial Government passes legislation, sets assessment policies and determines education tax rates. The Province also operates an independent assessment appeal tribunal – the Assessment Review Board (ARB). Municipalities determine revenue requirements, set municipal tax rates and collect property taxes to pay for your municipal services. Police and Roads, sidewalks, Waste Parks & leisure fire protection public transit management facilities 2016 ASSESSMENT UPDATE INITIATIVES In 2016, MPAC will update the assessed values of more than five million properties in Ontario based on a legislated valuation date of January 1, 2016.
