58 Un origen en la fenomenología del habitar a partir de la representación simbólica del espacio doi: 10.33264/rpa.201802-06 Rodrigo Gandolfi Orrego Escuela de Arquitectura Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Artes Visuales Resumen El texto a continuación, busca profundizar sobre aquellos elementos originales que habrían motivado al individuo, a la adaptación de su entorno como estrategia de representación simbólica, la que alcanzará con el desarrollo de una concepción fenomenológica del espacio y el tiempo, y cuyo origen aparecerá junto a su anhelo de protección y su voluntad para organizar sus hábitos, modos de convivencia y comunicación. A partir de su experiencia del mundo, será capaz de trasladar aquellas vivencias al interior de su morada, concibiendo por vez primera, aquella unión entre exterior e interior como posibilidad de representación de su mundo interior reconociendo los fenómenos que lo rodean. De este modo, aparecerá la posibilidad de reparar aquella brecha existencial impuesta por la distancia espacial y temporal que lo separa de la realidad, o aquello que le resulta inalcanzable y doloroso. La caverna, específicamente sus paredes, constituyen los límites de aquella primera morada donde se configura la escena a través de la cual será capaz de representar su propio mundo interior-exterior como unidad indivisible y posibilidad de trascendencia simbólica que le permitirá concebir su presencia armónica en el cosmos. Child Development, xxxx 2014, Volume 00, Number 0, Pages 1–15 The Origin of Representational Drawing: A Comparison of Human Children and Chimpanzees Aya Saito Misato Hayashi Chubu Gakuin University Kyoto University Hideko Takeshita Tetsuro Matsuzawa The University of Shiga Prefecture Kyoto University To examine the evolutional origin of representational drawing, two experiments directly compared the draw- ing behavior of human children and chimpanzees. The first experiment observed free drawing after model presentation, using imitation task. From longitudinal observation of humans (N = 32, 11–31 months), the developmental process of drawing until the emergence of shape imitation was clarified. Adult chimpanzees showed the ability to trace a model, which was difficult for humans who had just started imitation. The sec- ond experiment, free drawing on incomplete facial stimuli, revealed the remarkable difference between two species. Humans (N = 57, 6–38 months) tend to complete the missing parts even with immature motor con- trol, whereas chimpanzees never completed the missing parts and instead marked the existing parts or traced the outlines. Cognitive characteristics may affect the emergence of representational drawings. K = Kenyanthropus platyops “Kenya Man” Discovered by Meave Leaky and her team in 1998 west of Lake Turkana, Kenya, and described as a new genus dating back to the middle Pliocene, 3.5 MYA. A = Australopithecus africanus STS-5 “Mrs. Ples” The discovery of this skull in 1947 in South Africa of this virtually complete skull gave additional credence to the establishment of early Hominids. Dated at 2.5 MYA. H = Homo habilis KNM-ER 1813 Discovered in 1973 by Kamoya Kimeu in Koobi Fora, Kenya. Even though it is very small, it is considered to be an adult and is dated at 1.9 MYA. E = Homo erectus “Peking Man” Discovered in China in the 1920’s, this is based on the reconstruction by Sawyer and Tattersall of the American Museum of Natural History. Dated at 400-500,000 YA. (2 parts) L = Australopithecus afarensis “Lucy” Discovered by Donald Johanson in 1974 in Ethiopia. Lucy, at 3.2 million years old has been considered the first human. This is now being challenged by the discovery of Kenyanthropus described by Leaky. (2 parts) TC = Australopithecus africanus “Taung child” Discovered in 1924 in Taung, South Africa by M. de Bruyn. Raymond Dart established it as a new genus and species. Dated at 2.3 MYA. (3 parts) G = Homo ergaster “Nariokotome or Turkana boy” KNM-WT 15000 Discovered in 1984 in Nariokotome, Kenya by Richard Leaky this is the first skull dated before 100,000 years that is complete enough to get accurate measurements to determine brain size. Breuil N 1905 traté, por primera vez, de hilvanar en conjunto y pers E pectiva las primeras indicaciones de cronología relativas a la evolución del arte rupestre paleolítico, con los datos conocidos entonces de la Mouthe, Combarelles, Font-de-Gaume, Pair-non-Pair y Marsoulas, en Francia, y solamente de la cueva de Altamira, en España. Desarrollé el mismo tema en Mónaco el año siguiente. No me forjé ilusiones sobre el carácter tan provisional de este ensayo que fui retocando sucesivamente en las diversas publicaciones que, gracias al príncipe Alberto de Mónaco, pude editar con lujo sobre las cuevas de Altamira (1908), Santander, Font-de-Gaume (1910). las de los Pirineos cantábricos (1912), de la Pasiega (1913), de la Pileta, Málaga (1915) y de Combarelles (1924). El estudio todavía inédito, en parte, de muchas otras del sudoeste y sur de Francia y del noroeste de España, me han llevado a una concepción mucho más compleja de la evolución de este arte sobre el que hoy escribo (en 1934): examinaremos, pues, sucesivamente, solamente para Francia, los diversos grupos de cuevas y abrigos decorados: 1) Piri neos: 2) norte del Garona; 3) Provenza occidental. En cada grupo estudiaremos primero los hechos relativos a la evolución de la pintura; los casos de superposiciones directas de técnicas diferentes nos permitirán clasificar los documentos de una misma época por comparación de estilos. Después, en cada región, examinaremos también el desarrollo paralelo de la evolución del grabado y de la escultura parietal. -

ON THE EMERGENCE OF ART AND SYMBOLISM: THE CASE OF NEANDERTAL ‘ART’ IN NORTHERN SPAIN by Amy Chase B.A. University of Victoria, 2011 A thesis submitted to the School of Graduate Studies In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Archaeology Memorial University of Newfoundland May 2017 St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador ABSTRACT The idea that Neandertals possessed symbolic and artistic capabilities is highly controversial, as until recently, art creation was thought to have been exclusive to Anatomically Modern Humans. An intense academic debate surrounding Neandertal behavioural and cognitive capacities is fuelled by methodological advancements, archaeological reappraisals, and theoretical shifts. Recent re-dating of prehistoric rock art in Spain, to a time when Neandertals could have been the creators, has further fuelled this debate. This thesis aims to address the underlying causes responsible for this debate and investigate the archaeological signifiers of art and symbolism. I then examine the archaeological record of El Castillo, which contains some of the oldest known cave paintings in Europe, with the objective of establishing possible evidence for symbolic and artistic behaviour in Neandertals. The case of El Castillo is an illustrative example of some of the ideas and concepts that are currently involved in the interpretation of Neandertals’ archaeological record. As the dating of the site layer at El Castillo is problematic, and not all materials were analyzed during this study, the results of this research are rather inconclusive, although some evidence of probable symbolic behaviour in Neandertals at El Castillo is identified and discussed. -
