For Immediate Release July 9, 2015 RubberDucks Game Recap RubberDucks 4 Baysox 3 WP: Mike Clevinger (6-4) LP: Elih Villanueva (7-6) SV: Jeff Johnson (13) Summary Akron’s Jeremy Lucas and Bryson Myles hit solo homers, and right-hander Mike Clevinger matched his longest outing the season, as the RubberDucks slipped by the Bowie Baysox, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium. Turning Point The RubberDucks (45-42) snapped a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning when Anthony Gallas doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Moncrief, and scored on a wild pitch by Bowie starter Elih Villanueva (7-6). Mound Presence Akron starter Mike Clevinger (5-4) weathered a two-run first inning, and settled down for one of his best outings of the season. He worked 7 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits. He allowed just one hit after the first inning, and retired 21 of the final 23 batters he faced. His lone walk came to his final hitter, Corbin Joseph, in the eighth. Right-hander Louis Head recorded the final out in the eighth, stranding Joseph, and all-star closer Jeff Johnson tossed a scoreless ninth for his 13th save. Duck Tales Jeremy Lucas launched his first AA home run in the second inning off Villaneuva to tie the game, 2-2. Lucas finished 2-3, on the day. Bryson Myles also homered, ripping a solo shot to right in fourth to give Akron a brief, 3-2 lead. It was Myles’ third of the season. Gallas finished 2-3, with a double and RBI. Notes The RubberDucks took two out of three in the series, and pulled to within four games of the first-place Baysox (48- 37)…By salvaging the finale, Akron finished 2-4 on the road trip…Bowie turned four double plays in the game…Time of game: 2:23…Attendance: 2,840. Up Next The RubberDucks will return to Canal Park for a four-game weekend series against the Reading Fightin Phils, beginning on Friday night at 7:05.
