MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

  • Cincinnati Reds' 10-4 Victory Over the San Francisco Giants on Monday
Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings March 17, 2015 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1978-The Reds are the first to don green uniforms for a St. Patrick’s Day exhibition. The Reds even order green catching gear for the occasion. CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Even if reinstated, Pete Rose's Hall future uncertain By C. Trent Rosecrans / Cincinnati Enquirer / [email protected] / @ctrent Even if Pete Rose is reinstated to baseball, that would not guarantee him an easy road to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. On Monday, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Rose had formally applied to have his lifetime ban lifted. Manfred said he would "deal with" Rose's request. Rose, who has been banned from the game since 1989, was ruled ineligible for the Hall in 1991, when the organization voted to ban players on baseball's permanently ineligible list. If reinstated, Rose would have to be elected to the Hall by Expansion Era Committee, according to Hall of Fame spokesman Brad Horn. "Rose would be an eligible candidate for Hall of Fame consideration based on if he were to be reinstated by Major League Baseball," Horn wrote to the Enquirer in an email on Monday. "Should Rose be moved off Baseball's Ineligible list, his candidacy would fall to the Expansion Era Committee (which next votes next winter – 2016 for Induction in 2017), based on the rules for election. Only candidates who last appeared in a major league game within a 15-year window can be considered by the BBWAA."' Rose's induction into the Hall of Fame would rest on a 16-member committee that meets at baseball's annual Winter Meetings, needing the same 75 percent standard that is required by the constituency of the members of the BBWAA who have earned voting privileges by being active members of the organization for 10 years.

  • Ducks Recap 070915
For Immediate Release July 9, 2015 RubberDucks Game Recap RubberDucks 4 Baysox 3 WP: Mike Clevinger (6-4) LP: Elih Villanueva (7-6) SV: Jeff Johnson (13) Summary Akron’s Jeremy Lucas and Bryson Myles hit solo homers, and right-hander Mike Clevinger matched his longest outing the season, as the RubberDucks slipped by the Bowie Baysox, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium. Turning Point The RubberDucks (45-42) snapped a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning when Anthony Gallas doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Moncrief, and scored on a wild pitch by Bowie starter Elih Villanueva (7-6). Mound Presence Akron starter Mike Clevinger (5-4) weathered a two-run first inning, and settled down for one of his best outings of the season. He worked 7 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits. He allowed just one hit after the first inning, and retired 21 of the final 23 batters he faced. His lone walk came to his final hitter, Corbin Joseph, in the eighth. Right-hander Louis Head recorded the final out in the eighth, stranding Joseph, and all-star closer Jeff Johnson tossed a scoreless ninth for his 13th save. Duck Tales Jeremy Lucas launched his first AA home run in the second inning off Villaneuva to tie the game, 2-2. Lucas finished 2-3, on the day. Bryson Myles also homered, ripping a solo shot to right in fourth to give Akron a brief, 3-2 lead. It was Myles’ third of the season.
