RESOLUTION OF THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS SUPPORTING THE DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL BRIDGE NO. 01-0165 ON US HIGHWAY 101 AS PORTION OF THE WILLITS BYPASS PROJECT, IN THE WILLITS AREA, IN MEMORY OF SEAL JESSE PITTMAN

WHEREAS, Jesse Pittman was born in Arcata and raised in Willits, California; and

WHEREAS, after graduating high school, Mr. Pittman served as a CALFIRE firefighter in the Mendocino Unit before enlisting in the US Navy in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pittman served as a Navy Petty Officer Second Class and a member of San Diego-based SEAL Team FIVE; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pittman, an elite Navy SEAL commando, was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom multiple times, and to Yemen in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2010-2011, missions both dangerous and top secret; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pittman was a highly decorated combat veteran, having received such awards as: Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor, Navy Commendation Medal, Two (2) Navy Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Marksmanship Medal, Pistol Marksmanship Medal, Bronze Star with Valor, and Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, on August 06, 2011, Mr. Pittman was one of the 31 American heroes lost in a helicopter crash over Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 27, Mr. Pittman died while living a life dedicated to providing service for his country; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pittman had a saying among his SEAL teammates, “I don’t run, I charge,” which is exactly how he lived his life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors hereby supports the dedication of Memorial Bridge No. 01-0165 on US Highway 101 as portion of the Willits Bypass Project, in the Willits area, in memory of United States Navy SEAL Jesse Pittman.
