CENTRAL COMMUNITY ASSEMBLY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PLAN March 2011 to March 2012

1

INTRODUCTION Community Assemblies want to use practical and efficient ways to involve more local residents. Our aim is to become increasingly effective and inclusive, using different community involvement methods. Styles will vary throughout different communities in order to reflect neighbourhood needs. This plan will compliment the Community (SCC) Involvement Strategy, SCC Community Involvement Toolkit and the Central Assembly Community Plan.

The following wards fall within the Central Community Assembly boundary:

• Broomhill Ward • Central Ward • Ward • Ward

WHO WE WANT TO ENGAGE WITH The Community Assembly has a key role in obtaining the views of local people, and these views should represent the diversity of the population, as far as is reasonably practical.

For monitoring purposes, people who attend Community Assembly Events, or give their views by other means, when appropriate will be asked to supply their demographic details for monitoring against the demographic profile of the community.

We will particularly target older people, younger people, students, BME communities and other under-represented groups.

All the engagement activity which we undertake is designed to help the Councillors from the Central Community Assembly to make better decisions in their public business meetings. The Central Assembly Business Meetings take place quarterly:

March 24 th 2011, 6pm – 8pm, Quaker Meeting House June 9 th 2011, 6pm – 8pm, Quaker Meeting House September 22 nd 2011, 6pm – 8pm, Quaker Meeting House January 26 th 2012, Quaker Meeting House: 6pm – 7pm ‘Meet the Cabinet’ session; 7.15pm – 9.00pm Regular Assembly Meeting.

Community Media

We contribute to Sharrow Today and Broomhall News and will contribute to other local media as opportunities arise.

Other Involvement Methods

We use regular e-mail communication to canvass views and provide useful information. There is also a twice-yearly Community Assembly newsletter. We hope to make increasing use of the website and potentially other routes, for example blogging and text messaging. We are also setting up a Facebook page for the Central Assembly.

‘You Choose’ grant-giving events provide an opportunity to engage with community groups and gave them a chance to network and get information on potential sources of funding.

Where capacity permits, we will target particular groups eg lunch clubs, parent and toddler groups etc.

We will go out to where people gather eg shopping centres, to undertake consultation and involvement activity.

Other innovative methods will be explored and used as appropriate.
