Reliance Foundation awarded o Reliance Foundation was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award for its contribution in promotion of sports during national sports awards ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. o Foundation focuses on using sports as a medium to encourage learning & breed leadership among youth in rural areas. o The foundation also backs Indian Super League, which has now become India's premier football tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo wins award o Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lieke Martens were named the UEFA Players of the Year 2017. o Lieke Martens was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year after leading the Netherlands to the 2017 Women’s Euro title this summer on home soil. o The awards ceremony was held in Monaco Pogba wins Player of the Season award o Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been named the Europa League Player of the Season for 2016-17. o Pogba was part of the United side that won the Europa League for the first time in the club's history with a 2-0 win over Ajax in May. o United colleagues Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were also shortlisted for the award but Pogba came out on top. Agriculture Leadership Award o Telangana CM, K. The Obelisk Gate' wins Best Novel 2017 o Hugo Award for Best Novel 2017 was given to Nora K.     Railways derails boxers' SBL dreams Neeraj Goyat and Co could be reprimanded for taking part in pro-boxing league as the RSPB cranks up pressure GAURAVBHATT NEW DELHI, JULY17 PROFESSIONAL BO XERS Neeraj Goyat, Amandeep Singh and Kuldeep Singh could be barred from competing at the Nationals after taking part in the Super Boxing League (SBL) without acquiring the requisite per­ mission from their employers Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB). On July 6, RSPB had issued a letter to the general secretaries of the zonal units and sports associations affiliated with it inform­ ing that the board has not approved the re­ quest of No-Objection Certificate from its boxers for participation in the league. "It doesn't make any sense because we are not even fighting under amateur rules. This league is independent of the BF1. We have fought on the professional circuit so I don't know why these problems are being created this time," said Neeraj, who is cap­ taining the Haryana Warriors in the ongoing SBL Former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Amandeep is leading the Punjab Sultans while multiple-time national cham­ pion Kuldeep captains Bahubali Boxers. "Last yeartoo, we applied for an NOC for our professional fights and got it in a couple of days. This time, we had sent the applica­ tion almost 20 days in advance but it was declined at the last moment," said Kuldeep. This unique concept was born thanks to British businessman Bill Dosanjh, also the founder and promoter of successful Super Fight League held recently in New Delhi, India. Super Boxing League with its tag line Hit Harder will also be promoted by none other than Olympic medalist and two time world champion boxer, Amir Khan. Scheduled to be staged from July 7-Aug 12, 2017, SBL is being launched in association with AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) who will provide the boxers the right platform to showcase their talent. The franchise-based SBL is Bill Dosanjh’s yet another innovation after the Super Fight League. The Super Fight league – world’s leading mixed martial arts league — in only its inaugural season has attracted wide fan base in the country. Now the Super Boxing League is ready to woo Indian audiences with the best of action in boxing. One of the features of the league will be its unique point scoring system which is being introduced for the first time in the history of professional boxing wherein a boxer can claim six points on winning a bout through knock-out.     INDO-PACIFIC China: Type-15 MBT Export Variant Shows Off Enhanced Protection and Mobility OE Watch Commentary: A Chinese TV program aired in August showed off the VT-5, a “lightweight” Main Battle Tank (MBT), an export variant of the Type 15. The program entitled “Lightweight Main Battle Tank VT-5 - Evolution of the King” [《轻量化主战坦 克VT-5 - 王着的进化》], followed presenter Wu Jie [吴杰] as he interviewed technicians working on the tank and showing off its capabilities. The program was filmed at Chinese arms producer Norinco’s Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Corporation, also known as the Baotou Tank Factory. The area is also home to the Tank & Armored Vehicle Experimental Center [坦克装甲车辆实验中心], where all Chinese tanks conduct mobility and firing tests. For China, which has fought wars with India along the Tibetan plateau, and along its border with Vietnam, the 30-36 ton VT-5 could fill a capabilities gap for geographic areas where larger MBTs (which typically weigh upwards of 50 tons), would be unable to travel. As noted by one Norinco technician, heavier tanks all struggle in high plateaus, rice paddies, and riverbanks—terrain that covers much of China and particularly the southwest and eastern parts of the country. Throughout the program, technicians interviewed by Wu Jie “VT-5 Lightweight MBT” by Peter Wood emphasized the tank’s agility. As one technician noted, the VT-5 has a power-to-weight ratio of 18–19.6 (horsepower/tons), depending on the configuration. The tank’s driver’s position was designed to more closely resemble civilian cars has a steering wheel to make learning to drive it easier.
