This has been done to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Under this program ICMR scientists and officers are visiting schools for active interaction with the school kids to aware them regarding value for good health. Mahatma Gandhi has been chosen as ‘health ambassador’ to create awareness among school children. Meghalaya becomes first state to have water policy Meghalaya became the first state to approve a draft water policy to address water issues, conservation, and protection of water sources in the state. The state has become the first in India to have a water policy. The policy intends to achieve sustainable development, management and use of water resources with community participation. TIFR Scientists Developed ‘Black Gold’ That Can Boost Solar Panels and Solve Drinking Water Crisis Indian scientists at the Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) have created a unique material from gold named as ‘black gold’ which can be used for applications ranging from harvesting solar energy to desalinating seawater. The scientists did not add any other materials or chemicals to the precious metal, instead, they just rearranged size and gaps of gold nanoparticles to develop a new material that can absorb both light and carbon dioxide. Since gold do not have these properties, the newly developed material, which is also black in color, has been named as ‘black gold’. High-Level Steering Committee set up by the Govt proposes to establish a National Digital Health Mission A high-level committee set up by the Union ministry of health and Family Welfare, Government of India has produced their report called ‘National Digital Health Blueprint’ which was released by Health Minister Dr.Harshavardhan in New Delhi. The committee proposed to form a National Digital Health Mission & both the centre and state Governments will be the owners and stakeholders in the new organization. AIIMS along with Ministry of Health will lead largest pan-India Oral Health Survey 2019 AIIMS along with Ministry of Health will lead largest pan-India Oral Health Survey 2019 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Centre for Dental Education and Research (CDER) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will undertake the largest nationwide Oral Health Survey 2019. It will collect data which will act as a baseline for planning preventive and treatment strategies. The US House passed a Bill to remove 7% cap on issuing Green Card The United States (US) House of Representatives passed a Bill ‘Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act, 2019 or HR 1044’ which removes the present 7% country-cap on issuing Green Cards. The city of Fuzhou (China) will host the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020 In the event of 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee meeting 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) announced that the Chinese city of Fuzhou will host the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020. The world’s biggest diamond mine (Argyle mine- Australia) is closing after almost four decades The world’s biggest diamond mine, Argyle Diamond Mine is being shuttered after almost four decades. It is run by by Rio Tinto Group and is located in Western Australia. It will close its working by the end of 2020 due to exhausting of its supply of economically viable stones. It is the largest diamond producer in the world by volume. Argyle is best known as the source of about 90% of the world’s prized pink diamonds. ECONOMY AIIB provided $100 million to L&T Finance arm for wind and solar infrastructure projects The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will provide $100-million loan to L&T(Larsen & Toubro) Infrastructure Finance Company(LTIF) for wind and solar infrastructure projects. This is the first time AIIB is extending loan to a non-banking finance company(NBFC). LTIF, a subsidiary of L&T Finance Holdings collaborated with AIIB to explore the international market for green finance. The project will help in increasing the supply of renewable energy in India & also helps to reduce the carbon intensity by 30-35 percent of the 2005 levels by 2030 which was India’s commitment under Paris agreement. Govt infused over Rs.3.15 lakh crore into PSBs in 11 Years between FY09 and FY19 Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of State for Finance stated that the government has infused over Rs 3.15 lakh crore into public sector banks (PSB) in the last 11 years up till 2018-19. Public sector banks source capital from internal capital generation, mobilization of capital from markets, and the government infusion. The capital infusion by the government complements PSU( Public sector Undertakings ) banks’ internal capital generation and mobilization of capital from markets. During the time period between FY09(Fiscal year)and FY19, PSU banks have mobilized Rs 2.81 lakh crore of capital through sources other than the government, and have registered a net profit of Rs 98,373 crore, of which a sizeable proportion has contributed to internal capital generation. The government infused capital of Rs 3.15 lakh crore in public sector banks during the same period. Wilful defaults exceed $21 billion in India for the year 2018-19, SBI holds the highest The state-owned banks in India stated that Rs.1.50 trillion ($21.76 billion) worth of loans as wilful defaults in 2018-19. the State Bank of India(SBI) holds the highest number of wilful defaults, worth around INR 461.58 billion, while Punjab National Bank(PNB) ranked second at Rs.250.9 billion and Bank of India at Rs.98.9 billion. Wilful defaulters: Those are known as individuals or companies that own large businesses and intentionally skip repayments. Banks and financial institutions do not sanction any additional facilities to the wilful defaulters and are forbidden from establishing ventures for 5 years. The central government has been taking strong measures to strengthen the norms against wilful defaulters especially after Indian aviation businessman Vijay Mallya, fugitive jeweler billionaire NiravModi moved out of the country after defaults in repayment. In 2025, India will overtake Japan to become the World’s 3rd Largest Economy: IHS Markit IHS Markit, a global information provider, in its report mentioned that India will surpass Japan to be the world’s third largest economy in 2025 and it will overtake the United Kingdom (UK) to become the fifth biggest economy in 2019.
