This year’s Conference will be the first YFG National Conference in the organisation’s 44-year history to be held online, and I also hope that it will be the last. The pandemic has forced all of us in YFG to adapt quickly and dynamically to remain relevant and on this front, I believe we have succeeded. Our policies and campaigns have focussed on advocating for sensible, practical solutions to issues relevant to young people. We have sought to modernise Young Fine Gael through the relaunch of our website, the expansion of our social media presence to new platforms and a larger audience and the launch of the YFG Women’s Network, placing a renewed focus on the importance of greater female participation in politics. For the first time in its history, YFG was forced to run the entirety of its recruitment campaign online as Ireland went into lockdown. Despite the challenges we faced, our branches across the country can take pride in the fact that together, we delivered YFG’s first year-on-year increase in membership since 2016.

European Commission Valdis DOMBROVSKIS Janusz WOJCIECHOWSKI Executive Vice-President Member of the European Commission of the European Commission Agriculture An Economy that Works for People Ms Irène Tolleret Member of the European Parliament European Parliament Per e-mail: [email protected] Brussels, 44/oi¡m/l EM/ss, Ares(2021 )s_350474 Dear Honourable Member, We would like to thank you and the co-signatories for your letter of 12 January 2021 requesting the establishment of a compensation fund to help the European wine sector, which is affected by the additional import duties that the United States have applied to certain European wines since 18 October 2019 and covering some additional wine products since 12 January 2021. The Commission is fully aware of the difficulties that the EU wine sector continues to encounter due in particular to these tariffs, but also to the COVID-19 pandemic. As indicated previously, the Commission considers that the best aid to be provided in such circumstances is to allow greater flexibility in the promotion of European wines on third-country markets. The Commission encourages the wine sector to make use of the promotion policy instruments targeting third countries1 and the promotion measure of support programmes in the wine sector (NSPs)2 as they can help consolidate their position on existing markets or seek new opportunities in other markets. Useful flexibilities for operators promoting EU wine in third countries were introduced already in January 20203 and will be extended with the adoption of the prolongation of the COVID-19 package4. 1 More information on the promotion policy and its funding opportunities is available at https://ec.europa.eu/chafea/agri/ 2 Article 45(b) of Council Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013.

  • EPP Group President Manfred Weber EPP Group Secretary General Simon Busuttil and All Members of the EPP Group
EPP Group President Manfred Weber EPP Group Secretary General Simon Busuttil and all members of the EPP Group Brussels, 2 December 2020 Dear Manfred, Dear Simon, Dear colleagues, With growing dismay and impatience, we witness the increasing radicalization and verbal abuses of certain Fidesz MEPs of our Group. On 23 and 25 November, Tamás Deutsch MEP, Head of the Hungarian EPP Delegation said in two different interviews1 about Manfred Weber defending the new rule of law conditionality in the European budget: "Weber says, if you have nothing to hide, you don't have to be afraid. I remember well that the Gestapo and the ÁVO2 had the same slogan." In the interviews, he further compares the EPP's insistence on the rule of law to nazi and communist oppression. Comparing our support for the rule of law with Gestapo or Stalinist methods is an insult to all of us in the EPP Group. Comparing the European Union to nazi or communist oppression is a blatant and intolerable distortion of historic facts and an insult and vilification of the millions of victims of nazism and communism. The difference between Europe’s darkest days of communism and nazism and our European Union of today is precisely this: the rule of law, independent judges, freedom of speech and media and protection from arbitrariness and cronyism. We all agree that the assessment, if something is in line with the rule of law or not, must not be made by politicians or journalists, but by independent judges. 1 ATV" television, 23.11.2020, and "Magyar Nemzet" daily, 25.11.2020 2 Hungarian Stalinist secret service The statements of Tamás Deutsch, which he repeated at several occasions, are shocking and shameful.

  • County Louth Local Development Strategy- Summary
County Louth Local Development Strategy- Summary Introduction: Louth Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) was established in 2014 for a three year term under the provision of Part 6 of the Local Government Reform Act. The LCDC comprises of public and private sector members, including local authority members and officials; State agencies; private sector representatives; and, local and community development representatives. Working in partnership, Louth LCDC will prepare and implement the community elements of the 6-year Local Economic and Community Plan, and will coordinate generally the local and community development activity to reduce overlap, avoid duplication and improve the targeting of resources. Louth LEADER Partnership (LLP) will operate as the implementer for the Local Development Strategy (LDS) in respect of the delivery of the prospective LEADER Programme. The total available funding for the LDS is € 6.1M. Co. Louth is the smallest county in the State. It is also one of the most densely populated, containing as it does the two largest towns in the country, namely Dundalk and Drogheda. In addition to these major urban centres, the County also contains a number of substantial towns and villages including Ardee, Dunleer, Clogherhead and Carlingford. The county is strategically located on the Dublin-Belfast economic corridor, and has strong links to Northern Ireland. By reason of this location combined with high quality infrastructure (road and rail), accessibility to ports and airports (north and south), high speed broadband, a skilled and educated workforce, the county is well placed for the future. Co. Louth Local Economic Community Plan (LECP) reports that statutory, business and community organisations are very active in Co.
