WSOP 2008: Zusammenfassung der Events #39 bis #41 Event #39: USD 1.500 No-Limit Hold’em, Tag zwei Ein weiteres „Baby-Turnier“ (2.720 Teilnehmer, Preispool USD 3.712.800, Siegprämie USD 631.656) bei dieser Mammut-WSOP, bei dem vor allem die Nonames ihren großen Tag hatten. Nachdem die beiden PokerStars Pros Humberto Brenes und Barry Greenstein vorzeitig an die Rails geschickt worden waren, schafften es tatsächlich ausschließlich Spieler aus der zweiten oder gar dritten Garde, sich an den Final Table vorzukämpfen, der heute ab 14 Uhr (Ortszeit Las Vegas) ausgespielt wird. Das Pikanteste an der Angelegenheit ist die wohl Tatsache, dass mit Habib Khanis ein irakischer Staatsbürger in die Palanx der Amerikaner/Kanadier vorgestoßen ist! Die soeben veröffentlichten Chipcounts vor dem Finaltag sehen so aus: Thom Werthmann 1.600.000 Thanh Dat Tran 1.255.000 Curtis Early 1.225.000 David Woo 1.090.000 Matt Wood 675.000 Habib Khanis 645.000 Eric Beren 640.000 Jim Paras 535.000 Michael Glasser 495.000 Event #40: USD 2.500 2-7 Triple Draw, Tag eins Es war ein wilder Ritt beim 2-7 Triple Draw. 238 Pokerspieler starteten in das Turnier (Preispool USD 547.400) und als nach zehn Levels der erste Tag beendet war, hatten gerade einmal 30 überlebt. Das heißt am zweiten Tag geht es sofort in die Bubble-Phase, denn es werden 24 Plätze bezahlt. Aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum waren PokerStars ShootingStar George Danzer und der Österreicher Sigi Stockinger mit von der Partie. Für beide begann das Turnier vielversprechend, Danzer baute seinen Startingstack von 5.000 auf bis zu 19.500 aus und Stockinger sogar auf 23.500. Doch am Ende reichte es nicht für Tag zwei. Danzer verlor seine entscheidenden Hände gegen Phil Hellmuth und Stockinger verlor seine letzte Hand gegen Chau Giang. Ebenfalls ausgeschieden sind Chad Brown, Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri, Gavin Griffin, Erick Lindgren, David Benyamine, Andy Bloch, Howard Lederer, Phil Hellmuth, Alex Kravchenko, Tony G und viele andere große Namen im Poker-Buisness. Ganz oben im Chipcount hat sich ein ehemaliger Weltmeister eingenistet. Team-PokerStars-Pro Greg Raymer (Foto links), der im bisherigen Verlauf der WSOP noch gar nicht richtig in Erscheinung getreten ist, hat satte 65.600 in Chips eingesammelt und liegt an vierter Stelle. Allerdings liegt das Feld dicht zusammen. Chipleader ist Shun Uchida mit 79.200 und bis Platz elf beträgt der Unterschied nur 30.000 Chips. Auch Raymers Teamkollege Bill Chen hat den Finaltisch mit 45.800 in Chips noch im Visier. Und dann sind ja auch noch Altmeister wie David Sklansky und Billy Baxter, der mit 6.800 allerdings an letzte Stelle rangiert, im Rennen. Wie dicht das Feld zusammenliegt verrät auch der Average von knapp 45.000. Der zweite Tag verspricht also jede Menge Spannung. Sechs Spieler werden am Ende mit leeren Händen dastehen und ab Platz 24 gibt es ein Preisgeld von USD 5.274. Fortgesetzt wird das Turnier im elften Level (Blinds 600/1.200, Betting Limits 1.200/2.400). USD 5.274 Event #41: USD 1.500 Mixed Hold’em, Tag eins Die Mixed-Hold’em-Turniere erfreuen sich bei der WSOP steigender Beliebtheit. Waren es im Vorjahr, als Christoph Niesert den Finaltisch erreicht hatte und Dritter wurde, noch 620 Teilnehmer, so zahlten diesmal gleich 731 Pokerspieler das Buy-in von USD 1.500 und der Preispool beträgt USD 997.815 Gespielt wird abwechselnd 30 Minuten Limit und 30 Minuten No- Limit. Reinvestieren war auch das Motto bei Jan von Halle. Gerade erst als Vierter beim Pot-Limit Hold’em nur knapp am Bracelet vorbeigeschrammt, kaufte er sich sofort für den Mixed-Event ein und setzte sich auch dort prompt in den Top Ten des Chipcount fest. Er brachte nur wenige Minuten, um aus den 3.000 Chips 7.500 zu machen und nach dem Dinnerbreak ging es weiter bergauf. 33.000 Chips waren es bereits, als Level sechs anbrach und dann verlor er ausgerechnet gegen Ayaz Mamood, mit den er kurz zuvor noch am Final Table saß, den ersten größeren Pott und fiel zurück auf 22.000. Zum Ende des Tages waren es dann wieder 39.775 und der nächste Cash für 50outs ist in greifbarer Nähe. Für die anderen deutschen Spieler lief es nicht so gut. Christoph Niesert, Klaus Hausmann, Hanno Offen sind ausgeschieden. Davood Mehrmand hat es dagegen wieder geschafft und wird mit 23.400 Chips zurückkehren. Insgesamt gehen 98 Spieler in den zweiten Tag, 72 Spieler werden bezahlt und der Average liegt bei rund 22.000 in Chips. Das Turnier wird am Montag mit 30 Minuten Limit (Blinds 600/1.200, Betting Limits 1.200/2.400) fortgesetzt. Dann folgen 30 Minuten No-Limit (400/800, Ante 100).     STUDY SESSION 4 Small Ball Versus Long Ball Small Ball • A style of tournament play characterized by pot control, positional advantage, and trapping. • Little to no three betting. • Speculative hands are important to this style of play. • Hands such as KQ, AT, etc have lesser value since they usually make second best types of hands. • Positional Advantage is very important. • The deeper the stacks, the more effective small ball play is. • Bluffing is done on proper board textures. Small Ball (con’t) • Open raises are smaller than standard (2.2 to 2.5x generally) to keep pots smaller. • Small ball is a difficult style to defend as you often don’t know where you are in a hand against a small ball player because they tend to just call. • Small ball players only tend to play big pots when they have a big hand. • Small Ball requires a strong understanding of board textures, opponent’s hand ranges, etc. • Small Ball is not effective under 50 BB. • Small Ball is the predominant style among professional tournaments players, including Daniel Negreanu, Phil Helmuth, Phil Ivey, and Jason Mercier. Long Ball • “Go Big or Go Home” • A style characterized by pushing small edges, especially early, in order to build a large stack to use as a battering ram against opponents. • Long ball requires unbridled aggression, but also an understanding of when to back down. • Being able to read a situation is key to long ball. Sometimes you go with top pair mid kicker and sometimes you fold a set because you feel they are the right play at that time.

    Erick Lindgren A Young Superstar won the Poker Cruise Million When he awoke on the cruise ship, Erick Lindgren was slow to remember the events of the previous day. Then, he looked on the nightstand, shook his head, and started laughing and mumbling to himself. There on the nightstand was a USD 22,000 bar tab from the night before! He had literally stayed up the entire night to party with friends – a ship full of them! In one fell swoop, the entire evening came back to him. After winning USD 1 million, he wanted everyone to celebrate his victory; he bought drinks for every person in the Crow’s Nest Bar for one hour. The Crow’s Nest isn’t just any bar. It is a colossal bar on the top of Holland America’s luxury cruise ship, the MS Ryndam. The room is dramatically enclosed by floor-to-ceiling windows, through which the lapping waves of the ocean can be observed. Furthermore, this wasn’t just any cruise; it was a poker cruise consisting of 546 players and roughly 750 companions, with the only non-poker related people on board being the ship’s crew. All week long, PartyPoker.com and Card Player Cruises put on a fabulous event. Poker players from all over the world partied and enjoyed one another’s company throughout the week. Mike Sexton called it „the world’s greatest poker party.“ Unfortunately for Erick’s pocket, it was quite the party where everyone knew one another and everyone wanted to join in the celebration; USD 22,000 buys lots of drinks, folks!     WSOP 2008: Zusammenfassung Events #27 bis #30 Event #27: USD 1.500 No-Limit Hold’em, Tag zwei Zu Beginn von Tag zwei gab es lange Warteschlangen vor dem Cash-out, denn die zahlreichen Shortstacks verabschiedeten sich im Minutentakt, sodass von den 224 Überlebenden von Tag eins, nach gut 20 Minuten nur noch gut 180 übrig waren. Die Turnierleitung entschied, eine nicht eingeplante Pause von 20 Minuten einzulegen, da die Mitarbeiter an der Kasse mit den Auszahlungen gar nicht so schnell hinterherkamen. Dennoch wurde es ein langer Tag, der um 2:30 Uhr schließlich abgebrochen wurde, da sich immer noch 17 Spieler im Turnier befanden. Jan von Halle, der mit 29.600 Chips gestartet war, schaffte gleich zu Beginn einen Double-up . Im zwölften Level (1.500/3.000, Ante 400) kam es vor dem Flop mit Pocket-Dreien zum all-in gegen A [key:card_spades] K [key:card_spades]. Der Flop brachte zunächst einen König, doch gleich am Turn tauchte die rettende 3 [key:card_hearts] auf und 50outs knackte die Marke von 100.000 in Chips. Nach zwei weiteren gewonnen Pötten mit A Q gegen A K und Pocketqueens gegen K Q ging er sogar mit 200.000 Chips in das Dinnerbreak, das insgesamt nur 66 Spieler erreicht hatten. Auch Team-PokerStars-Pro Humberto Brenes lag zu diesem Zeitpunkt über dem Average von rund 150.000 in Chips. Doch dann passierte das Unglück. Von Halle raiste mit Pocketjacks, der Spieler am Button ging mit 80.000 all-in und der Big Blind schob ebenfalls seine restlichen 28.000 in die Mitte.

    WSOP 2008 Day 41: 466 make Main Event Day 2a cut There may have been 1,251 players coming into Day 2a of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event on Tuesday, but only 466 came out of it by the time the last hand was dealt for the day. By the end of the day, all eyes were on Brian Schaedlich, from Cleveland, Ohio, who was sitting with one of the most impressive chip leads for a player at the end of a Day 2 that the WSOP has seen in years. He ended the day with about USD 801,000 in chips, and his closest rival is sitting with just USD 397,000. Brandon Adams is sitting in a strong position as well after Day 2a with USD 353,600. The Full Tilt Poker pro had a good stack of more than USD 70k after his Day 1 and said he played a lot of smaller and mid-size pots on Day 2a to continue his climb. „Today I started out playing very fast but then treaded water for a while,“ Adams said in his interview with PokerListings. „I think I ended up the second level of the day with around USD 160,000. I just had a good level and got it all the way up to USD 207,000.“ As he continued to accumulate chips, Adams landed at the ESPN feature table as well, where he had to play under the watchful eyes of the cameras. Adams is a renowned cash-game player who has managed to keep a fairly low tournament profile so far, but his exposure in the Main Event if he goes deep could change all that.
