Portfolio Holder Report to Council 11 December 2012 BERT BISCOE Transportation, Highways and Environment Operations (Delivery) 1. Visits and Briefings I’m setting up as many visits as possible to places. Time is short so its mainly towns, but, if there’s something to see, I can try and fit it in between a complex schedule of briefings and meetings. I have visited Launceston, Penzance, Bude, St Austell and Fowey. More are scheduled for the New Year to meet Members, Parish Councils, business and community leaders. 2. A30 Junction improvements The tender of a preferred contractor has been chosen to improve junction capacity at Avers and Treswithian, in Redruth and Camborne. Works will commence in January 2013 and last for 3 months. 3. Hayle Harbour North Quay Infrastructure Project On 7 December the first phase of the project was completed with an opening ceremony of the newly constructed road and bridge. The next phase is to design and construct the Marine Renewable Business Park at the end of Hayle North Quay. Funding for Phase two of the project will come from the ERDF programme and the Council’s Capital Programme. 4. Trafalgar Roundabout Roadworks The roundabout works are proceeding on schedule. On Wednesdays until Christmas (28 November and 5, 12 and 19 December) the works which usually start at 7pm, will be delayed until 11pm to avoid any disruption to late night shopping. 5. Bus Eco Shelters A trial has commenced of three state of the art bespoke bus eco shelters. The shelters, installed at Roche, Trinity Street (St Austell) and Penwithick, will be monitored to see if they meet our expectations before the design is adopted more widely across Cornwall. 6. Street Works Online Information on Cornwall Council’s road works and those of utility companies is available to view on a new website, http://cornwall.roadworks.org . The website provides real time information and is a key tool in the coordination or works as well as providing timely information to the public. It is possible to view both current and planned works. Usefully, people can sign-up for email alerts notifying works in a specific area of Cornwall. If you want assistance to set up this facility please contact the Street Works service. 7. St Erth Access to Stations Project In July the DfT announced funding for a network of direct and attractive pedestrian and cycling routes connecting the village of St Erth village to the railway station, and routes between Lelant and Hayle and the proposed Park & Ride. The scheme will build on the existing National Cycle Network Route 3. Cornwall was awarded £630,000. Work will be complete by March 2015. 8. Camborne Pool Redruth – East West Link Road On 22 November 2012 the Compulsory Purchase and Side Road Orders for this project were confirmed by DfT. Statutory site and newspaper notices will now be placed to conclude the statutory processes. Works are expected to commence in March 2013. 9.
