Tournament Storylines • Amateur success After qualifying for the match play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, Elyse Smidinger of Crofton, Md., was able to take down the No. 1 seed Jihee Kim, 2 and 1. The senior at Arundel High School also won the Maryland state golf championship in 2010. She has recorded top-five finishes in her last two AJGA events and will be looking for her first career victory when she travels to The Greenbrier.

• Playing at a TOUR venue This will be the fourth consecutive year that The Greenbrier, a PGA TOUR venue, hosts the AJGA. Currently it is one of six TOUR venues to host an AJGA event. And while the tournament will not be played on the same course, the juniors will be able to feel the TOUR atmosphere by staying in the same resort and dining at the same restaurants as the pros. • Call to action A letter from a soldier overseas inspired Harrison Shih of Saddle River, N.J., to collect golf balls for soldiers who love practicing in the desert, but do not have enough equipment. Over the course of one tournament Shih was able to collect 1,200 golf balls, which he will ship to Afghanistan. Shih is currently ranked No. 62 in the Polo Golf Rankings.

Players to Watch • Brendon Jelley, Tulsa, Okla. (2013) In 2011, Jelley has compiled three top-five performances, including a T3 showing at the Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship, and is hoping for his first AJGA victory when he travels to The Greenbrier.

• Theo Humphrey, Greenwich, Conn. (2014) Humphrey has posted four top-10 finishes in his young junior career. The rising sophomore won the 2010 Junior All-Star at Penn State and recently finished in a tie for second at the 2011 Golf Pride Junior Classic and third at the AJGA Philadelphia Open Championship.

• Samantha Marks, Maitland, Fla. (2012) As a recent AJGA champion, Marks will headline the Girls Division. Ranked No. 45 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Marks won her first AJGA event at the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out. She hopes to build upon her success in last year’s event where she finished runner-up to eventual champion Kendall Martindale.

• Jordan Lippetz, Bradenton, Fla. (2013) The 2009 Rolex Junior All-American has put together an impressive 2011 with six top-10s, including three runner-up finishes. Most recently she grabbed third place at the AJGA Philadelphia Open Championship in early August.

Media Accommodations The AJGA is prepared to make covering the Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier an enjoyable experience. Whether it be on-site professional communications staff or timely results, the AJGA is ready to honor all media requests. At the event, the AJGA will provide:

• Information about the tournament and its participants leading up to the event • Assistance with player interviews before, during and after the tournament • A golf cart to make covering the tournament as easy as possible • Assistance locating players on the course • A recap with results after each tournament round in a timely manner

During the week of the tournament, the AJGA will have three communications representatives on hand to assist the media. These media officials will write an AP Style recap and produce agate results each tournament day. These will then be faxed and/or e-mailed to all media outlets. Interviews with AJGA Tournament Directors, Tournament Chairmen and juniors can be conducted before or after every round.
