It is a method for releasing the toxic winds of emotional energy, which can be either the cause or effect of sickness. Energy blockages arising from organ obstructions and conges- tion in the abdomen can result in knots and tangles at the centre of the body’s vital functions, impeding the flow of Qi, the life-force or bioelec- tromagnetic field described by Deepak Chopra as energy-intelligence. Emotions such as fear, anger, anxiety, depression and worry are related to different organs. When the Qi of an internal organ is in a state of imbal- ance, it emanates toxic wind. Diagnosing the energetic condition, the Chi Nei Tsang practitioner uses intention and touch to influence the partici- pant’s Qi and "chase the winds". Wind is an energetic vibration which, whether toxic or the vital source of life, enters the being through the "mountains", which include the pointed bones of the nose, coccyx, fingers, toes, knees and elbows. Winds drain out through "marshes" such as the anus, vagina, eye of the penis, pores of the skin, mouth, armpits, backs of knees and front of elbows. The mouth, navel, palm, sole and perineum are among the two- way conduits. A practitioner disperses or directs winds through marsh or mountain, often using supplementary meridians or points. When obstructed the internal organs store unhealthy energies than can overflow into other systems and manifest as negative emotions and sickness. In search of an outlet these toxic energies create a cycle of negativity and stress, festering in the organs and overflowing into the the turmoil inside, when just the surface tension is so dramatic - traumat- abdomen, the body’s garbage dump. We conducted a preliminary investigation into the veracity of mediumistic surgeries per- formed by the healer “John of God” in Brazil, as well as the specific procedures in- volved in his practice. Thirty surgeries were observed and videotaped; tissues were re- moved and analyzed in 10 of them. Aspects related to antisepsis and analgesia also were investigated. John of God actually made incisions in the skin, as well as occasion- ally scraping the cornea, usually without pain and without the apparent use of anesthet- ics or antiseptics. In the three days of follow-up we failed to identify infection in any of the surgical sites.

  • Our Age of Quackery | Alberta Doctors' Digest
Alberta Doctors' Digest Our age of quackery It’s commonly said that we live in the Information Age, with ready access to each other and to everything else, in a digital world that is endlessly connected and nearly instantaneous. While there are undoubted marvels galore in our nexuses (and our unbounded appetite for such connections), we face a torrent of unsupported facts, factoids and outright lies – our era might better be called the Age of Misinformation. Health care has certainly not been immune to misinformation. There has, to be sure, been a push to establish truth-based-on-science, and in particular, the scientific method. Medical students are quick to offer that the lodestone for new knowledge must include appropriately blinded, randomized trials comparing this and that. Trouble is, somewhere near half the published trials, even in our best journals, don’t hold up, are limited in scope, or don’t apply to much of what we recognize as health care. In particular, our acceptance of truth-through-science has done little to curb or diminish the fraudulent practices known as quackery, which trumpet questionable diagnoses, using improbable diagnostics and untested or frankly refuted arguments to support nonsensical practices. Quackery has a long heritage. The term comes from the Dutch kwakzalver or “hawker of salve” and bundles the notion of fraudulent practices with aggressive hype or over- promotion. In a recent beautifully illustrated text, Quackery: a brief history of the worst ways to cure everything, American internist Dr. Lydia Kang and co-author Nate Pedersen chronicle a staggering compendium of cure-alls from antiquity through recent history.

  • A Model Explaining Brazilian Spiritist Surgeries and Other Unusual, Religious-Based Healingsi
Report A MODEL EXPLAINING BRAZILIAN SPIRITIST SURGERIES AND OTHER UNUSUAL, RELIGIOUS-BASED HEALINGSI Sidney M. Greenfield, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This paper seeks to explain unusual surgeries performed withour antisepsis or anesthesia in which patients bleed but minimally when cut. experience little if any pain, do nor develop infections or other post-surgical complications and furthermore, recover. Operations performed by three Brazilian Spiritists healer-mediums are described. The explanation of the Kardecist-Spiritists, whose belief system informs the surgeries and other healings, is presented and examined. The author then seeks an objective, scientific explanation for the phenomena in recent developments in new fields within biomedicine and in psychosomatic healing. Ernest. L. Rossi's model (as developed in The Psychology oJlvfind-Body Healing) which focuses on information flow as a way to resolve the mind-body problem, is taken as a point of departure. Rossi proposes that hypnosis can be used therapeutically to introduce information ar the level of the psyche that is then transduced ro the endocrine system, the immune system, etc., activating them ro contribute to the healing process. Observing that hypnosis, as undersrood and used in the individualistic west, usually requires someone to induce a patient so that healing and therapy may be initiated (by suggestion), the aurhor then turns to the comparative record of anthropology to show that individuals regularly enter into trance states during religious rituals where they also are exposed to alternative real ities in which there are forces and beings believed able to both cause and cure illness. This information, it is hypothesized, is transmitted symbolically to the psyches of individuals in both words and images.

  • Alternative and Complementary Therapy
Alternative and Complementary Therapy Alternative and Complementary Therapy Author: Ayda G. Nambayan, DSN, RN, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Content Reviewed by: Emma deVilla, MA, RN, Nursing Instructor, Capital Health System School of Nursing, Trenton, New Jersey Cure4Kids Release Date: 17 February 2006 Introduction: When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it sends the life of the child and the child’s family in a new direction. A significant and growing number of patients with cancer are seeking therapies outside conventional medicine (A -1). In some cultures, non-traditional US medicine is the initial mode of therapy: patients and families seek the help of a medicine man before going to see a physician. A partner site needs survey done by St. Jude International Outreach Program, determined that approximately 70 % of the patients served by these sites use one or more form of alternative and/or complementary therapy along with their cancer treatments. The term complementary and alternative medicine (A -2 CAM) often refers to a broad and complex combination of interventions; other names used to describe these interventions include 1. Holistic 2. Unorthodox 3. Unconventional 4. Natural 5. Traditional 6. Non-traditional CAM practitioners emphasize wellness rather than treatment of disease, healing (health restoration; to return to a sound state) rather than cure (getting rid of the disease; recovery from disease), and focus on the whole person rather than the systems of the body. Complementary therapies are commonly used by cancer patients not to treat their cancer but to enhance their quality of life by reducing treatment side-effects, enabling self-care, and enhancing well-being.

  • Dowsing: the Instabilities of Evidential Competition 1. Introduction
April 3, September 27, 2020 February 20, 2021 DRAFT Dowsing: The Instabilities of Evidential Competition John D. Norton http://www.pitt.edu/~jdnorton Chapter for a book provisionally titled The Large Scale Structure of Inductive Inference 1. Introduction Chapter 4, “The Uniqueness of Domain-Specific Inductive Logics,” addressed the possibility that a single collection of empirical facts might evidentially support multiple sciences equally well. This circumstance would negate the power of evidence to determine a definite theory and compromise the uniqueness of our mature sciences. Worse, since these facts also determine the applicable inductive logic, we would then have multiple logics applicable in the same domain. Inductive anarchy would prevail. In that earlier chapter, I argued that this possibility has not arisen in the case of mature sciences, which are well-supported by an extensive body of empirical evidence. There is, for example, only one periodic table of the elements and only one chemistry derived from it. Further I argued that the material theory of induction provides a mechanism that precludes the persistence of equal support for such multiple sciences. It is based on an instability in the competition among rival theories. Any gain by one of them enhances its inductive reach, while at the same time weakening that of the competitor. The enhanced theory is then better placed to achieve more successes at the expense of its rival. A continuation of the process leads to the evidential dominance of one theory. Where might we look to see this process acting within real sciences? The natural place is among the many fields of endeavor labeled as pseudosciences: astrology, parapsychology, telepathy, telekinesis, crystal healing, psychic surgery and much more.

NEW WEBSITE: www.ephesians-511.net AUGUST 2004, AUGUST 2009, MAY/OCTOBER 2012 R e i k i , a n d H o l i s t i c H e a l i n g WHAT IS REIKI? Pronounced as “ray-key”, REIKI is a Japanese word that means “Universal Life Force Energy”. It is a kind of ‘healing energy’ that was supposedly ‘rediscovered’ by a medical doctor named Mikao Usui in the 19th century. However, different schools of this ‘New Age’ technique have evolved, and, with them, several versions of its origin and development, differing in some details. Sterling Publishers of Delhi, in their New Age ‘New Dawn’ ‘All You Wanted to Know about…’ series of pocket-sized books on Alternative therapies, says this on Reiki which is “dedicated to the Lotus Feet of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba” by Sumeet Sharma: “REIKI is a Japanese word comprising two parts –Rei and Ki, and these are Japanese Kangi characters. REI means universal spiritual wisdom or consciousness. The wisdom that comes directly from GOD or the HIGHER SELF. It is not only God-conscious but is also all-knowing. It understands each person completely, with the root cause of the person’s problems and difficulties, and knows how to heal them. KI means the LIFE FORCE, and this is referred to by the Chinese as the CHI, [and] by the Indians as PRANA… Anything that is alive has a life force circulating and surrounding it, but the life force departs when it dies. When the life force is high and free-flowing, one is less likely to get sick, and vice-versa.
