DUPAGE AME CHURCH BIBLE STUDY – MAY 2021
A STUDY OF THE BOOK OF
ROMANS
WEEK 2 – Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Pastor James F. Miller & Rev. Lana Parks Miller
We’ve Come This Far By Faith Romans 4-8
Let’s Review: • Chapter 1: The Universal Need For The Gospel • Chapter 2: The Jews Are As Guilty As The Gentiles • Chapter 3: Christ Is The Propitiation For Sin
Chapter 4: Abraham Justified By Faith
Paul’s discussion of Abraham here is directed at those who felt that the Gentile Christians in Rome should become Jewish proselytes (or converts to Judaism) in order to really be Christians. This basically is teaching from the Torah that says if one is not of the seed of Abraham, that person would need to be circumcised to become Jewish and acceptable.
Paul explains that the promise of God was given on the basis of Abraham’s FAITH while he was not yet circumcised. The heirs of Abraham are those who have that kind of faith rather than being those who are just circumcised. Abraham’s life if faith (not his circumcision) set him apart before God. This is why he received the promise of God.
Let’s Read: Romans 4:1-9; 13-17
DUPAGE AME CHURCH BIBLE STUDY – MAY 2021 Chapter 5: Christ and Adam
Let’s Read: Romans 5:1-11
Romans 5:12-14;18-19
Here the question of how one individual
(Jesus) can die for many is answered. Paul’s
answer is that humans aren’t to blame for
being sinful. This is how we are born (in sin);
we must choose Christ over sin. One man’s
sin brought sin to humanity (Adam) and one
man’s sacrifice and gift can cover the cost. Thank God for Jesus!
Chapter 6: Dead To Sin, Alive in Christ
Let’s Read: Romans 6:1-7; 11-14
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus (v 23)
DUPAGE AME CHURCH BIBLE STUDY – MAY 2021 Chapter 7: (Marriage) Sin & The Law Why The Law??
Let’s Read: Romans 7:1-6; 14-26
Here is the struggle between our sinful nature
and our inner being.
Chapter 8: Living Through The Spirit
One of the most familiar chapters in the Bible...
Let’s Read: Romans 8:1-14
We must choose a life in Christ by living in
accordance with the Spirit, working to follow and
obey Christ teaching. Grace doesn’t release us from
obligation to do what is right.
Let’s Read: Romans 8:28-39
