Our Springfield Animal Care and Adoption Center remains open and we continue to provide law enforcement services to protect animals in western New England.

After a strong beginning, equity markets ended the year with a downturn and significant volatility, reducing our overall portfolio return in 2007. Investment return and stability remain a concern as we look ahead to 2008.

Despite the external challenges, the overall change in net assets from operations improved in 2007 over 2006. We will continue to focus on strengthening our operating performance and efficiency to provide the most effective care for animals in our facilities and to continue our mission of serving and protecting animals. RIGHT TOP INEMORIAMM Many of Louise Doyle’s donations were made in honor of her two dogs, LOUISE. I DOYLE A close friend of our organization since 1961 and one of the most generous Snowy and Boomer. donors in our history, Miss Louise I. Doyle, passed away on July 25, 2007 at the age of 95. Miss Doyle RIGHT BOTTOM was a private philanthropist who generously supported, often anonymously, many charitable causes. Selwyn Kudisch, with Iris, was an MSPCA- Miss Doyle lived her entire life in Leominster, where she grew up in a prominent family who gave their Angell Overseer and name to Doyle Field, the city’s central recreational complex. She was an alumna of Smith College. Her lifelong supporter. father was a city mayor during the 1920s, an industrialist and instrumental in founding a church and a hospital in the town. Miss Doyle, a committed conservationist, was a benefactor of the Trustees of Reservations, donating about 50 city acres to that non-profit group. She also enthusiastically supported the arts.

Her lifetime giving to the MSPCA-Angell showed her well-informed interest in all aspects of animal welfare: she contributed to our Boston Capital Campaign, to the Critical Care Unit at Angell Animal Medical Center, to our Animal Care and Adoption Centers, to our Natural Disaster Relief Fund and to the American Fondouk. She was also a member of the George T. Angell Circle of Friends, a group of supporters who have remembered us in their estate plans, and her bequest to the MSPCA-Angell reflected the generosity of her past giving. She will be sincerely missed.

SELWYNA.KUDISCH Long-time MSPCA-Angell friend and Overseer, Selwyn A. Kudisch, passed away on February 26, 2007 at the age of 92. Selwyn went to college during the Great Depression, became a lawyer and went on to co-found Xtra Corporation, a highly successful company that leased freight transportation equipment and containers.

Selwyn was devoted to the Kudisch’s dog Iris, whom he and his wife Marilyn, also an Overseer, adopted from the MSPCA. The Kudisch’s used to take Iris to visit patients in a rehabilitation center. Two endowed funds bear the Kudisch name: The Selwyn A. and Marilyn R. Kudisch Pet Care Assistance Fund and The Marilyn R. Kudisch Endowment to Benefit the MSPCA-Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center. On the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, rather than host a lavish party, the Kudisches funded the creation of a new position at the MSPCA, the Director of Adoption Center Animal Health.

Selwyn also assisted a wide variety of other non-profit organizations. An ardent golfer, he established the Dolly Sullivan Golf Tournament in memory of a friend, and, much to his delight, was the only man allowed to play among the champion women golfers. He was honorary director of the Dedham Choral Society. Marilyn Kudisch describes her husband as one of the most generous-minded individuals she’s ever known—someone who would send a donation to every single charity that sent him a letter, and who would extend his thoughtfulness to all of his many friends and family members. We were most fortunate to be among them.

The mission of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA)-Angell is to protect animals, relieve their suffering, advance their health and welfare, prevent cruelty and work for a just and compassionate society.

Pictured here are only a few of the more than 250,000 animals cared for by the MSPCA-Angell annually. Pictured above from left to right are Carly, Bear and Lance who all persevered over neglect and injury to heal and find loving, forever homes. Pictured below from left to right are Monty, Dr. Gregg Rapoport and 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130 www.mspca.org Sunny and Crimson. To read the stories of each of these animals and more, please turn to pages 13-16. Through your generosity, the MSPCA-Angell was able to help them through the most trying times in their lives.
