The brainchild of Zurich industrialist Adolf Guyer-Zeller, the railway was officially opened on 1 August 1912 after a building period of 16 years. The interactive, multimedia installation in the ‘Kirchli’ (a former transformer station, often said to resemble a small church) shows the ascents of the world-famous wall of rock. For us, the Jungfrau region is the perfect meeting place for a weekend. The classic and storied ascent has developed over time, thanks to the easy access provided by the Jungfraujoch railway station. It will be a good place to stay if you are driving or want to stay in the mountains but at the same time, want some shops, restaurants and nightlife around.
