They have had a decent start to the season, and we will have to be at our best to get DESIGN SUPPLY INSTALL anything from the game Our best will need to be 100% better than what we have served up the last two games. After a decent opening week against the backdrop of all the issues we had, we won our opening two league games and, even though we exited the FA Cup on penalty kicks in Peterborough after a hard fought game, I felt we deserved better. That was definitely not the case at Bishops’ Stortford where we played our best football for a while but defended poorly as team. The same pattern followed at Horsham earlier this week, and it is a cause for concern. We identified and addressed the issues after the Stortford game but it seems we did not take on board what was agreed to rectify some basic issues. Horsham opened us up in the second half and we made some horrible errors that cost us. It has been addressed again this week but the players are in no doubt that it is unacceptable to perform like that. Too early to be worried, maybe, but we have to start taking responsibility for performances and the application of the work we do. And preferably immediately if we are serious about our ambitions. The demands we make of each other have to increase, and I need to see a reaction to the dismal showing on Tuesday night. As I said last time within this pages the management team has been minus Ed Thompson - while his son pursues a career at Tottenham. We have recruited Jake Murphy as goalkeeping coach Your support for the team will be vital again this to replace Ed, and I am sure you will all welcome season. The club continues to be a great story; I Supporting Enfield! him to the club. The relationship with Nathan and have seen it close up in midst of the covid-19 crisis. Alfie is an important one as goalkeepers like to Let’s all work together to make that story even work a certain way to stay sharp and focused. • Forget August to April, September to May Would Be Better for Non-League
WEALDSTONE v CONCORD BY MARTIN READ WORLD OF BALL Random pictute of Stones’ son. A September start would mean an end celebration at Dartford of the season on the final May bank holiday. courtesy of Adam Williams So yeah, you heard me - actually playing Forget throughout the full month of May. Next to no international concerns to consider for our players, so why not? Perhaps have the play off finals on that final Spring Bank Holiday weekend, or indeed the weekend after. For August to April, followers of the professional game, whose seasons will have finished earlier, it would be an opportunity to support their local team’s last push for promotion or whatever having September to closed the book on their own club’s exploits. 4 A better showcase May would be I know the BBC in particular does well by the FA Cup. Instead of some random choice of FA Cup preliminary round tie, imagine this on Football Focus: “On today’s programme an interview with Fulham new boy Andreas better for Schurrle, the top 10 reasons why Mourinho’s on his way out - and as the non-league sea- son begins, we look at the clubs and players to watch.” A distinct identity, distinctively non-league profiled. It would be as if the ‘regular’ game had been added to. More opportunities to he definition of madness, as I’m sure league season. It wouldn’t get lost amongst promote the uniqueness of non-league. we are all familiar with by now, is pundits, the minutiae leading up to transfer all the professional game’s fanfare and doing the same thing over and over deadline day and all the other mass media hoopla.

/margatefootballclub /margate_fc /margate_fc GATE TV www.margate-fc.com #TimeForHeroes Tuesday 8th October 2019 MARGATE FC v LEATHERHEAD FC Kick Off—7:45pm 2 Welcome It has only been a couple of days since Jay and the players pulled off another emphatic win in the Emirates FA Cup beating Salisbury FC 4-2 in their back yard to add our name to the 4th round draw. Celebrations ran long into the night for the travelling Gate supporters and even the players managed to unwind for a couple of hours on the coach ride back to Kent. But now our attention turns back to the BetVictor Isthmian Premier league, and the visit of tonight’s opponents, Leatherhead. We found out yesterday that our opponents in the 4th Qualifying Rd will be Oxford City, with the Gate travelling to Court Place Farm on Saturday 19th October. Full details will follow in due course as we continue our adventure in the Emirates FA Cup. The fixture list is heavily congested in October and we haven’t even added in the FA Trophy yet, but the players, buoyed from the FA Cup win, the addition of centre back George Essuman and key players returning from injury, are ready for the challenge of Nikki Bull’s Leatherhead side who recorded a much needed 3-0 victory over Cheshunt on Saturday, lifting them out of the relegation zone. Following that we head to White Heart Lane to play the lesser known but in better form local club Haringey Borough, they also recorded a victory (1-0 v Cray) on Saturday and will prove another stern test for Jay and his young charges.
