  • Leduc to Host 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Leduc to host 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships March 30, 2017 TORONTO (U SPORTS) – U SPORTS and Curling Canada announced Thursday that the 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships will be held in Leduc, Alta., hosted by the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas. The U SPORTS national championship, set for Mar.24-28, 2018, will be one of four curling events held next year at the Leduc Recreation Centre just outside of Edmonton, in addition to the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championship, the 2018 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship and the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship. “U SPORTS is very pleased to continue its commitment to university curling in Canada. Partnering with Curling Canada and one of our sport partners, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, as well as the University of Alberta and the University of Alberta-Augustana, will raise the bar by providing university athletes with the opportunity to compete on stadium ice,” said Graham Brown, CEO of U SPORTS. "One of our goals for university sport in Canada is to build relationships with our sport partners and universities to enhance the student-athlete experiences at U SPORTS national championships. Providing a curling festival concept in a curling community like Leduc does just that.” It will be the 11th staging of the U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships and the second time hosted by the University of Alberta, after the Golden Bears and Pandas welcomed Canada’s best university curlers to the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton in 2010. Russian Arctic 6/2019 DOI: 10.24411/2658-4255-2019-10063 ADULT INCIDENCE IN THE RUSSIAN EUROPEAN ARCTIC WITH DEVELOPED MINING AND METALLURGICAL INDUSTRY A. N. Nikanov, V.M. Dorofeev, L.V. Talykova, N.V. Sturlis, I.V. Gushin Kola Research Laboratory for Occupational Health, Kirovsk, Murmansk region, Russia [email protected] The purpose of the research. The research aims to assess the adult incidence within the mining complex in the Murmansk Region (the Russian Arctic). Materials and methods. The analysis of the adult incidence change in 1989- 1990, 1999-2000, 2009-2010 and 2014-2015 was carried out. To assess the population health status, the incidence data was used in this work. The research covers the territory of the municipal formations with the city-forming mining and metallurgical complex (MMC) enterprises in the Murmansk Region. Main results and conclusions. It has been established that between 1989 and 2015 the adult incidence in the MMC territories, as well as in the Murmansk Region at large, clearly tends to increase (the coefficient of determination R2>0,7) for the following disease categories: neoplasms; endocrine diseases; diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs; diseases of the nervous system and sense organs; diseases of the circulatory system; diseases of the genitourinary system; diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue; congenital malformations. There is no doubt that a set of climatic, geographical and production factors, along with the pollution of the natural environment within the MMC territories in the Murmansk Region, has a negative impact on the health status of the adult population, including working individuals.

Zapovednik “Basegi”, Permskaya Oblast, Gremiachinsk, Lenin St. 100, Russia, 618280 INTRODUCTION. The Federal Nature Preserves (Zapovedniks) of Russia. Russia and the former Soviet Union have been the scene of an unusually comprehensive attempt at biodiversity conservation through the establishment of an extensive network of protected natural areas. These natural areas include several categories of territory which today account in aggregate for some one-and-a-half percent of the land area of Russia. Territory categories include: zapovedniks - the strictly protected scientific Nature Reserves (World Conservation Union or IUCN category I State Nature Reserves or Scientific Reserves); National Parks - (IUCN category II); Natural Parks – (IUCN category V); zakazniks – natural refuges and wildlife sanctuaries (IUCN categories IV, V); natural monuments – small scale areas protecting unique biological objects (IUCN category III); arboreta (dendrological parks) and botanical gardens (Colwell et al., 1997). The zapovednik, or Russian Federal Nature Preserve, is a specially protected natural territory or aquatory that excludes all forms of management, even general visiting (except for the needs of research or protection), in order to preserve its indigenous complexes in their untouched natural state. At the same time, a zapovednik is an institution designed not just for the conservation of its territory but also for study. The principal tasks of the zapovedniks were formulated in the beginning of the last century by the Russian scientist Kozhevnikov (1909, 1911 and 1928) and by Dokuchaev (Shtilmark, 1996).
