Football in France Global Sport Cultures Eds Gary Armstrong, Brunel University, Richard Giulianotti, University of Aberdeen, and David Andrews, The University of Maryland From the Olympics and the World Cup to extreme sports and kabaddi, the social significance of sport at both global and local levels has become increasingly clear in recent years. The contested nature of identity is widely addressed in the social sciences, but sport as a particularly revealing site of such contestation, in both industrialising and post-industrial nations, has been less fruitfully explored. Further, sport and sporting corporations are increasingly powerful players in the world economy. Sport is now central to the social and technological development of mass media, notably in telecommunications and digital television. It is also a crucial medium through which specific populations and political elites communicate and interact with each other on a global stage. Berg publishers are pleased to announce a new book series that will examine and evaluate the role of sport in the contemporary world. Truly global in scope, the series seeks to adopt a grounded, constructively critical stance towards prior work within sport studies and to answer such questions as: • How are sports experienced and practised at the everyday level within local settings? • How do specific cultures construct and negotiate forms of social stratification (such as gender, class, ethnicity) within sporting contexts? • What is the impact of mediation and corporate globalisation upon local sports cultures? Determinedly interdisciplinary, the series will nevertheless privilege anthropological, historical and sociological approaches, but will consider submissions from cultural studies, economics, geography, human kinetics, international relations, law, philosophy and political science.

CTT / RTTC British National 10 mile TT Ayr Roads / Fullarton Wheelers 1st & 2nd September 2018 Race Manual Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers are delighted to welcome you to the RTTC British National 10 Mile TT Championships for 2018 presented by CTT. Many of you may know that this is the first time which the championships have been held north of the border, and we welcome you all to our local area. Special thanks go to William Cosh and Bill McMillan for driving the Scottish District from strength to strength. The CTT Scottish district is a fairly recent creation, and clubs were delighted to hear that the board wished to bring the National Championships here for 2018. Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers met to tout the idea of submitting a joint proposal to host the race on the well-known “Eglinton 10” course. This course on the A78 is one which most riders have on their bucket list, with an appetite to test themselves on quiet roads, but never quite knowing how the Ayrshire winds will blow. Both clubs have come together to put on this festival of racing for the weekend, and we would both like to thank all members for their help and support in bringing our idea to fruition. We hope you enjoy your visit to North Ayrshire and wish you all the very best for your race. Design/methodology/approach: Extant literature relating to managerial change is identified and discussed to provide the foundations of the discussion of whether managerial change in the EPL which is primarily focused on performance outcome, is neglecting ethical and legal issues. Findings: The loophole that exists in the Employment Rights Act (1996) allows clubs to instantly dismiss a manager and consequently not see out their notice period as agreed in their contract or the statutory notice period. Whilst legally clubs are at will to act in this manner, the instability of EPL management evident today appears to have taken away the rights of an employee.
