It is included in Annex II of the Habitats Directive (as M. funereus) and protected under the Bulgarian Biodiversity Act. Although this saproxylic beetle is widespread in old-growth forests or well-structured woodlands in Central and Southeast Europe, its populations are currently threatened by forest practices, such as the removal of wood (branches and logs) (Hardersen et al. 2017). The species is with limited dispersal ability (due to lack of wings) and is very likely to possess very isolated and localized populations. In addition, M. asper funereus is of considerable interest from a taxonomic point of view with unclear taxonomic status for as much as Morimus asper is a morphologically highly variable species. At present, at least three species/subspecies of the genus Morimus are known from the territory of Bulgaria - Morimus asper, M. -

ABSTRACT The observations conducted between May and October 2014 in the protected area "The Forests in the Southern part of Cândeşti Piedmont" clearly show three species of protected saproxylic beetles: Lucanus cervus, Cerambyx cerdo and Morimus asper funereus. The Quercus forests, which are dominant in that area, ensure optimal living conditions for the species L. cervus and M. asper funereus, which are common species in this site. Several aspects are presented that concern the period of activity of the individuals, sex ratio, the presence of predators and the distribution map of the species. The species C. cerdo was only found on Quercus sp, and the small number of the individuals counted in the area show that the species does not benefit from favourable development conditions. A number of pressures identified make the rational management of this protected area to be extremely important. INTRODUCTION Saproxylic insects have a major role in the degradation of dead wood. Speight (1989) (in Buse et al., 2007) defines saproxylic insects as “invertebrates dependent, in their life cycle, on dead wood or very old trees”. -

STOJANOVIĆ2 1Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, Radnička 20a, 21000 Novi Sad, Serbia 2Fruška Gora National Park, Zmajev trg 1, 21208 Sremska Kamenica, Serbia ABSTRACT: Determinated of new longhorn beetle material (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) collected on Mt. Fruška Gora during the period of 2002 - 2005 has shown the presence of 29 species and three sub- species. Of that number, one species is new to the Serbian fauna, seven species or subspecies are regis- tered for the first time for Mt. Fruška Gora, three species are Balkan endemics, and 10 species or sub- species are rare in Serbia. The presence of Icosium tomentosum atticum Ganglbauer, 1881 in Serbia is confirmed by this entomological investigation. KEYWORDS: Cerambycidae, endemic and rare species, Balkan Mt. Fruška Gora INTRODUCTION Mount Fruška Gora is in many respects (geomorphological, faunistic, floristic, etc.) a special mountain massif. It is cut off from the rest of the Dinarid system and is surrounded by lowland. Since the 1950’s a few researchers investigated the mountain’s entomofauna (ADAMOVIĆ, 1950, 1965; MIKŠIĆ, 1963; ILIĆ, 2005; PIL and STOJANOVIĆ, 2005a, b). Until now 126 cerambycid species were registered on this massif. That number includes some species which were there noted for the first time for Serbia, as well as rare and endemic species. MATERIAL AND METHODS Material was collected on field trips on Mt. Fruška Gora during the period of 2002 - 2005. -

Exocentrus barbieri PIC, 1950 is excluded from Exocentrus DEJEAN, 1835 and considered as a new synonym of Trichocontoderes setosus (FISHER, 1936). Therefore the former subgenus Barbierexocentrus BREUNING, 1958 of Exocentrus becomes a new synonym of Trichocontoderes BREUNING, 1957. Parasphigmothorax ochreosignatus BREUNING, 1974 is proposed as a synonym of Exocentrus alni FISHER, 1932, therefore Para sphigmothorax BREUNING, 1974 becomes a new synonym of Exocentrus.
