The kitchen is open from 9:30am for tea and coffee and our bar can offer a fine choice of beers and soft drinks from 11am. If you’re travelling with the family why not have ‘Brunch’ at the club. Take the 2nd entrance signposted to Kew. We are 250 metres up on the left . Bus: The No 65 from Ealing or Richmond Station stops outside From The North: M1 or M40 exit at the A406 drive south to the Chiswick roundabout under the flyover From The West M4 Exit at J 2 From London Exit at J1 From the Chiswick roundabout take the A205 signed Richmond to the traffic lights bear left over Kew Bridge. Bear right at the lights (Browns Restaurant) and follow the Kew Gardens wall until it stops, we are right next door!. By road from the south: M25 exit at the M3 and drive north towards London join the A316 past Twickenham Stadium on your left. 3 roundabouts after this you will cross the river. Drive to the next roundabout bear left at the lights onto Kew road. The entrance is via double iron gates ½ mile on your left. Parking Parking can be found via the entrance next to Kew Gardens or via the main entrance to Old Deer Park but is Limited. The street around the local area have open parking on Sunday mornings but please be considerate of our neighbours. Dog Free Zone Due to all areas of Old Deer Park being used for sports events all year round, the grounds are a Dog Free area. We are sorry if this causes inconvenience. Weather cancellations: If it should be necessary to cancel a fixture due to weather London ​ Welsh Mini will attempt to notify our visitors the day before the planned fixture. On the morning of the fixture we will contact the visiting club chairperson and fixtures secretary..     Old Deer Park A SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING DOCUMENT FOR OLD DEER PARK The Old Deer Park (the Park) was established during the reign of Henry VI. It is listed as Grade I on Historic England’s Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and forms the core of the Old Deer Park Conservation Area. It is bordered by the built up areas of Richmond, the River Thames and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew World Heritage site. The area is extensive, being some 147 hectares in total, with a varied character ranging from open space and natural landscape supported by many mature trees, through to car parking, sports facilities and community buildings. The majority of the land is owned by the Crown Estate, which then leases different parts of the Park to a range of organisations. The Park’s main function is for recreation and includes the following, accessed from the A316: • Recreation Ground, with open recreation areas, play, fitness and temporary events areas, sports pitches and tennis courts • King’s Observatory which is a Grade I listed building and is used as a private residence • Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club (members club) • Richmond Athletic Association Ground (including Grade II listed pavilion), which is home to Richmond and London Scottish Rugby Football Clubs • Richmond Swimming Pool (Grade II listed building) & Lido, now called ‘Pools on the Park’ • Public car park, landscaped area, Royal Mail sorting office and a number of community/ voluntary sector buildings • Accessed from the A307 (Kew Road) the Old Deer Park Sports Ground which accommodates London Welsh Amateur Rugby Football Club and Richmond Cricket Club, together with tennis, archery, bowls and squash facilities *Home to London Scottish and Richmond Rugby Football Clubs ** Home to London Welsh Rugby Football Club, Richmond Cricket club, tennis, archery, bowls and squash The plan above includes the location of key features within the Park [email protected] Old Deer Park What is a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and why is one needed for Old Deer Park? Richmond itself was an important centre with its royal palace dating from the medieval period. While construction of the school in 1870 is likely to have disturbed at least the most shallow archaeological deposits, the area under the playground is less likely to have been truncated allowing for the preservation of archaeologically sensitive layers. It is anticipated that it will be necessary to provide further information about the archaeological potential of the site from field observations, in order to draw up a scheme to mitigate the impact of the proposed residential development on any below-ground archaeological deposits if necessary.

    The Observatory and Obelisks, Kew (Old Deer Park)

    Local History Notes The Observatory and Obelisks, Kew (Old Deer Park) The Observatory was built for George III, a keen amateur astronomer. The architect was Sir William Chambers (1726-1796) who also designed the Pagoda in Kew Gardens. Built of Portland stone and surmounted with a moveable dome inside which were the main telescopes, it was completed in time for the King to watch the transit of Venus (i.e. when Venus was positioned between the Observatory and obelisks, Kew Earth and the Sun) on June 3rd 1769. The Observatory was used as an educational centre by the princes and the King established his own workshop there. The first Royal Observer to be appointed was Stephen Charles Triboudet Demainbray, who held the post from 1769 to 1782. He was assisted by his son the Rev. Demainbray who became teacher of astronomy to the King's children. The three obelisks which stand in the Old Deer Park are meridian marks set up for the purpose of adjusting the transit instruments in the Observatory, one pillar corresponding to the east wing of the building, one to the west wing and the solitary obelisk, along the towing path towards Brentford, indicating the true north point of the Observatory. At one time, London's official time was set from the calculations made at Kew. The principal time-piece used was made by Benjamin Vulliamy, clock-maker to the King. Later this work was taken over by the Observatory at Greenwich. In 1795 John Little, who was at one time a curator at the Observatory, was hanged for the murder of two old people in Richmond, and was also suspected of having caused the death of a man named Stroud, whose body was found under an iron vice in the octagon room of the building.

The issues they have noted include: • Drug dealing and drug taking (with one reported death from an overdose). • An increase in assault and fights (with one reported death). • Increased reports of weapon finds, in particular knives (as evidenced in Met and Parks Police reports). • More people rough sleeping, particularly in shop doorways. • Speeding and dangerous or drunk driving around the Green. • Graffiti and vandalism on the Riverside and the Old Palace walls on Richmond Green • Car thefts and break-ins, especially in the Friars Lane car park. • Urination and defecation throughout the area. With aggression shown to neighbours when challenged. The current crime rate in South Richmond Ward, which covers Richmond Town, Green and the Riverside, highlights the impact of the lack of police in the borough. July saw 11 crimes per 1,000 residents, almost twice that of the borough average and almost a third higher than the rest of London.1 In response, the South West BCU has instigated dispersal orders covering Old Deer Park, Richmond Green and Richmond Town Centre for 14-17 July and at Teddington Lock for 7-9 August.2,3 While the dispersal orders may have had the desired effect during those times, the same residents tell me that in some cases the people moved elsewhere, or just came back later: “During Dispersal Orders the Met are clearing the Riverside, but then vacating the area.
