1ST AND TEN WITH ANTHONY BYRD TIGERS HISTORY Byrd is the Offensive Line Coach at Twinsburg 2016 Season (4-6 overall #13 in D2:R5) 1. What is your football background? 8/26 H Copley L 28-35 A. This is my 15th year of coaching football. I played football in high school at Bedford High School for then Head Coach 9/2 A Solon L 7-43 Jim Hodakievic. I was a three year varsity starter. Upon graduation from high school I earned a football scholarship to the 9/9 H Aurora L 15-38 University of Louisville. I was redshirted my first year (practicing every week, not playing in any games). I was a 4 year starter on the offensive line, my first year of playing was at guard and my last 3 years were at left tackle. Upon graduation from the 9/16 A North Royalton W 28-27 University of Louisville I was an undrafted free agent for the New York Jets. I played professionally for two and a half years 9/23 A Brecksville L 37-48 with New York Jets, Chicago Enforcers(XFL), Cincinnati Bengals, Amsterdam Admirals(NFL Europe). I retired from professional football after a back injury. 9/30 H Stow L 14-42 10/6 H Wadsworth L 36-38 2.How would you describe your coaching style? 10/14 A Hudson W 21-12 10/21 A Nordonia W 37-13 A. I would describe my coaching style as one that is demanding and constant teaching. As a player I have had the pleasure to be taught by some great coaches form high school to the NFL that not only taught the x's and o's of the game but the technical 10/28 H Cuyahoga Falls W 35-22 aspects of the game for offensive lineman. So as I have become a coach I teach our next generation of offensive linemen the techniques that I learned at the various levels I played at so they can be successful. I teach my linemen the tools to be successful and demand that they come to practice to compete and use those techniques that they have been taught. 2015 Season (1-9 overall #26 in D2:R3) 3. Why do you think the team has been so successful early on vs. opponents that last year they struggled against? 8/28 A Copley L 25-41 A. Although this is my first year with this staff I think the reason we have been so successful is because the young men have bought in to what we as a staff have been teaching and they have had some success. Every week we as a staff raise the bar 9/4 H Solon L 0-34 of our expectations on these young men. These young men then accept these new expectations and work throughout the 9/11 A Aurora L 14-31 week to meet them. We teach these young men that they should strive for perfection in all that they do. "If you are going to 9/18 H North Royalton L 18-23 put in all this time and effort at whatever it is your doing why not be the best at it". 9/25 H Brecksville L 0-27 10/2 A Stow L 13-34 4. What attracted you to want to join Coach Bell’s staff? 10/9 A Wadsworth L 13-34 A. I have known Coach Bell for some time from our epic battles on the gridiron, Coach at Lake Catholic and myself at NDCL. 10/16 H Hudson L 0-29 My wife gave birth to twin boys in late spring and I was looking to possibly coach some place close to home. I work for the district and in talking with Coach Bell about an opportunity to join staff he had a position available. I've always enjoyed the 10/23 H Nordonia L 21-49 challenge of preparing my offensive and defensive linemen at NDCL for Coach Bell's Lake Catholic teams. I always knew that 10/30 A Cuyahoga Falls W 46-35 Coach Bell's team were going to be disciplined, well coached, and play hard from the first snap to the last. So when Coach Bell offered the position to me I couldn't wait to get to work to see how successful we could be.
