Seventh-day Adventist Church is truly blessed to have the light of True Education. Through the lights given to Mrs Ellen White, together with many dedicated church members in the last cen- tury, many Adventist education institutions were established to deliver Christian Education. Today we are the second largest Christian School system in the world. We have a total of 7,598 educational institutions operating in over 100 countries around the world with over 1.5 million students world-wide. On 14-16 Aug-13, almost 50 educators and parents came together in the Peninsular Ma- laysia Mission office conference room to be refreshed of the idea of True Education, to learn the techniques of teaching & coaching children in the kindergarten and to explore the possibility of homeschooling. Praise the Lord that we have Dr Lily Wong (an Expert in early childhood educa- tion and education psychologist) and Mrs Nancy Arias (Principal of a multi-grade academy in USA, and homeschool mother of 2 adult children). We had sharing of homeschooling experience by Dr Danny Oh of PAH through Skype and presentation of Griggs International Academy pro- gram from Michigan, USA, an Adventist distant learning program (homeschool program) for Kin- dergarten to Grade 12. The joys seen on the face of the kindergarten teachers and parents show that they have learnt much from the Dr Lily Wong and Mrs Arias. God willing, the Education and Children department of PEM will continue to organize True Education Confer- ence yearly on the third school holiday. If you are interested, do call Ms Renitta at the Mission office. Bulletin of the Geological Society of Malaysia, Volume 64, December 2017, pp. 65 – 79 Engineering geology in Malaysia – some case studies Tan Boon Kong Consultant Engineering Geologist, Petaling Jaya Email address: [email protected] Abstract: Engineering geology deals with the application of geology to civil engineering and construction works. The fundamental input in engineering geology would involve, among other things, studies on the lithologies, geologic structures and weathering grades of the rock masses since together they determine the characteristics and behaviours of the rock masses. In addition, project-specific requirements and problems need to be addressed. This paper presents several case studies on Engineering Geology in Malaysia such as: Foundations in Limestone Bedrock, Limestone Cliff Stability, Rock Slope Stability, Dams, Tunnels, Riverbank Instability, Slope Failure due to Rapid Draw-down, Urban Geology & Hillsite Development, and Airports. The various case studies presented here are based mainly on the author’s ~35 years of past practice and experiences. Concentrates .from known pegmatitic areas show abundance of columbite-tantalite, the hydrothermal concentrates with a variety of minerals from sulphides tO oxides and pyrometasom'~tic concentrates with magnetite. The form of individual mineral grains shows variation and they are also related to the types of tin deposit. Cassiterite in particular shows a variety of forms,· In ·addition to the common tetragonal habit, pegmatitic ca$siterite from Semiling and Bakri have peculiar shapes ofi) squat bipyramid ii) wedge terminated prism and iii) rhombohedral pyramid-terminated prism. Wood-tin was found in the east coast tinfields. Characteristics of other detrital minerals are also discussed. These detrital mineral characteristics are useful guides that could be used to characterise the various tinfields of Peninsular Malaysia, in view of the difficulty in obtaining fresh primary ore samples due to the deep tropical weathering conditions. Kasiterit khususnya menunjukkan pelbagai bentuk.
