I must thank my club and the league for providing the opportunity, of experiencing 56 years of pleasure by both playing and umpiring over that period of time. The honour and privilege of being asked to become League President in 2015 is something I was thrilled to accept with a tremendous amount of pride on behalf of myself, my club and my family after all these years of being involved with the recreational game. As your President this year, I will do my best to visit as many clubs as I possibly can. I also look forward to meeting the many cricketing friends I have made over the past years. Hopefully the kettle will be on as well. My best wishes go to all club officials, players and umpires, hoping that you have a good, successful and enjoyable cricket season. Let’s hope for a long, dry summer! Let me set the scene, my granddad was born in1882 and he lived to be 93 years old. Throughout his long life he never had to worry about a gas bill - because he never had a gas supply, in fact for the majority of his life he had no electricity either. The only source of heating was a coal fi red ‘range’ in his two-up two-down terrace and his toilet was at the end of the yard. I guess Tip No. 1 is to forget about fashion and dress for the weather. The memory that prompted this was as a child in the 1950s, calling on my granddad late one night with my parents only to fi nd that he was already WELCOME to the Autumn Edition of In Touch dressed for bed. and I hope that, like me, you’ve all had a good After much knocking he answered summer and enjoyed the sunshine when it the back door wearing his occasionally decided to pop out from behind fl annelette nightshirt, woollen bed the clouds.
