Therefore, the current study was designed and carried out during the past decade. A list of LFPs for 207 butterfly species (Super family Papilionoidea) of Sri Lanka is presented based on local studies and includes 785 plant-butterfly combinations and 480 plant species. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. Life history notes on the No-brand Grass-yellow, Eurema brigitta australis (Stoll, 1780) Lepidoptera: Pieridae - Wesley Jenkinson The No-brand Grass-yellow is encountered in the Northern Territory, and coastal and sub-coastal regions from north-eastern Queensland into southern New South Wales. Migration of this species occurs throughout its range depending on regional rainfall, temperature and suitable availability of its host plants. In Queensland the species is encountered in a variety of habitats where the host plants are established. This includes grasslands, woodland, eucalypt open forest and occasionally in suburban gardens where suitable habitat is nearby. The adults fly close to the ground amongst low growing herbs and grasses. When disturbed they can fly quite rapidly and can be difficult to follow. During cloudy conditions they settle on low growing shrubs and ground cover and resume flight when sunny conditions return. Both sexes occasionally feed from a variety of small native and introduced flowers. Whilst in flight, the adults can be very easily confused with other species of the Eurema genus, particularly E. herla and E. laeta. Voucher specimens are best for correct identification. The males of this species do not have a sex brand (as the name implies). In fresh specimens the adults can be separated from other Eurema spp. by the presence of two very faint pale yellow (or pinkish yellow) streaks along the costal margin towards the forewing apex as pictured. The species also has wet and dry season forms. The sexes are quite similar in appearance. In comparison to the males, the females are slightly paler yellow with more extensive black scaling across the wings. -

Thrissur, Kerala, India Abstract: In this study, all common families, Nymphalidae(16 species), being most dominant followed by Papilionidae (7 species), Pieridae(5 species), Hespiridae (4 species), and Lycaenidae(3 species) were represented. Thirty-five species were sighted in the study areas. Family Nymphalidae was most dominant. Species richness study was done only in the Pattikkadu region and did not show many fluctuations. There were a total of 433 sightings of ten species. Species abundance showed slight fluctuations across the months. Maximum sightings were of Leptosia nina. Factors such as habitat and month of observation did not seem to have a marked difference in the distribution and abundance of the butterfly species.Each species of butterfly has its own set of clearly defined preference concerning the environment in which it lives,this was reflected in beta diversity values, which showed similarity(86%)between Peramangalam and Parappur which had similar habitats and Peechi and Pattikkadu which lay near and had similar geography and flora. Observation of biodiversity in inhabited areas will help in better understanding of biodiversity values. -

The phylogenetic relationships within the largest subfamily of Tachi- nidae,Exoristinae,were explored using nucleotide sequences of two genes *EF-1 a and 28S rDNA). A total of fifty-five and forty-three taxa were represented in the analyses for each gene,respectively,representing forty-three genera. Neighbour joining,parsimony and maximum likelihood inference methods were employed to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships in separate analyses of each gene,and parsimony was used to analyse the combined dataset. Although certain taxa were highly mobile,phylogenetic reconstructions generally supported recent clas- sification schemes based on reproductive habits and genitalia. Generally,the monophyly of Tachinidae and Exoristinae was supported. Tribes Winthemiini, Exoristini and Blondeliini were repeatedly constructed as monophyletic groups, with the former two clades often occupying a basal position among Exoristinae. Goniini and Eryciini generally clustered together as a derived clade within Exoristinae; however,they were never reconstructed as two distinct clades. These results suggest that the possession of unembryonated eggs is plesiomorphic within the subfamily and that there may have been multiple transitions between micro- type and macrotype egg forms. ABSTRACT The butterflies Byblia ilithyia (Nymphalidae), Pieris canidia (Pieridae) and Azanus jesous (Lycaenidae) and the day-flying moth, Nyctemera adversata (Erebidae) are oligophagous. Previously, only B. ilithyia has been reported to be occurring in this region while the other three species are being reported for the first time from this region. The larval host plants include Jatropha gossypiifolia and Tragia involucrata for B. ilithyia, Brassica oleracea var. oleracea and B. oleracea var. botrytis for P. canidia, and Acacia auriculiformis for Azanus jesous. The nectar plants include Tragia involucrata, Euphorbia hirta and Jatropha gossypiifolia for B. ilithyia, Premna latifolia and Cleome viscosa for P. canidia, Lagascea mollis, Tridax procumbens and Digera muricata for A. jesous and Bidens pilosa for 275 N. adversata. The study recommends extensive field investigations to find out more larval plants and nectar plants for each Page lepidopteran species now reported. -

However, in South Korea, few studies on the northward range expansion of insects, particularly butterflies, have been conducted. Therefore, we selected eight species of southern butterflies and calculated the potential species richness values and their range expansion in different provinces of Korea under two climate change scenarios (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5) using the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) modeling approach. Based on these model predictions, areas of suitable habitat, species richness, and species expansion of southern butterflies are expected to increase in provinces in the northern regions ( >36°N latitude), particularly in Chungcheongbuk, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Incheon, and Seoul. -

The sample was collected during the Characterization of wild Entomofauna of the Frio river basin jurisdiction of CDMB, in secondary forests in an altitudinal gradient from 1,000 to 2,911 masl. 79 specimens of the family Pieridae were collected, belonging to 13 genera of which Leptophobia had 5 species, and Catasticta and Eurema had 3 species each. We obtained 22 species distributed in six sampling locations, where the highest richness of species was in Diviso Experimental Center with 12 species and Esperanza Experimental Center with 10. The analysis of the inventory quality showed a potential richness of 32.81 species, a proportion of the observed species of 67.05% and a sampling effort of 76.41%. The comparison of inventories for each locality showed a certain similarity between La Nevera, La Mariana and La Judia, and fewer similarities with El Diviso. -

Tara and Madhvi Gupta Department of Zoology, University of Jammu Jammu-180,006, India *Corresponding author: Anu Bala Abstract The present article incorporates detailed field observations of family Pieridae in Jammu region at different altitudes during spring, summer and autumn seasons of 2012-2013. The study revealed that 13 species of butterflies belonging to 10 genera of family Pieridae exist in the study area. Most members of Family Pieridae are white or yellow. Pieridae is a large family of butterflies with about 76 genera containing approximately 1,100 species mostly from tropical Africa and Asia. Keywords :Butterflies, India, Jammu, Pieridae. Introduction Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost state of India. It consists of the district of Bhaderwah, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur. Most of the area of the region is hilly and Pir Panjal range separates it from the Kashmir valley and part of the great Himalayas in the eastern districts of Doda and Kishtwar. The main river is Chenab. Jammu borders Kashmir to the north, Ladakh to the east and Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. In east west, the line of control separates Jammu from the Pakistan region called POK. The climate of the region varies with altitude. The order Lepidoptera contains over 19,000 species of butterflies and 100,000 species of moths worldwide. -
