The majority of my early Crosby information comes from internet sources and the Latter Day Saints ancestral files. My ancestry follows from John to Miles, Thomas, Anthony, and then to the first Crosby to settle in Massachusetts, my 12th great-grandfather, Thomas. Thomas Crosby was born about 1575 in Holme-on- Spalding-Moor, County York, England. Thomas married Jane Sothern in 1600 - they were the parents of my 11th great-grandfather, Simon Crosby. Simon Crosby is a common grandfather of Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby and myself - a relationship that makes us 8th cousin's (4 times removed). Simon's oldest son, the Reverend Thomas Crosby (1634 - 1661), is the line that follows down to "Bing" through son, Simon, and five generations of Nathaniel's. Reverend Thomas Crosby is reported to be the last Crosby of our ancestry to be born in England. The second son of Simon was Simon Crosby, Jr., my 10th great-grandfather. Simon Crosby, Jr. was born in Middlesex County, Massachusetts (Cambridge) on 6 August 1637. If birth locations are accurate then this would make the Crosby immigration to the United States approximately 1635. My Crosby line remained in Massachusetts for nearly 100 years, from Simon Jr. through Joseph, Robert, and Jonah Crosby. The first record of my Crosbys' outside Massachusetts is evidenced in their presence in 1800 Kennebec County, ME and the reported birth of Ezra Crosby (6th great-grandfather) in Winslow, Maine. Ezra Crosby married Teresa Sherwin of Dunstable County, Maine and were the parents of Cummings Crosby, my fifth great-grandfather. In 1814, Ezra Crosby died and I found Cummings Crosby and family in 1820 Somerset County, Maine, and again in 1830/1850 Penobscot County, living near his cousin, Manson. According to the 1850 census, Teresa Sherwin Crosby apparently remarried to a gentleman named Whitman. I believe Cummings wife, Dorcas, died some time before 1874 because I found a record of a Cummings Crosby marriage to Julia A. Hillman on 28 Dec 1874 in Penobscot Co, ME (Civil) - there has never been any record of another Cummings Crosby. After 1870, I could not find Cummings Crosby - until his 1889 death in Ottawa County, Kansas. I do not know what route, or with who, Cummings traveled to end up in Kansas. His son, Ezra, moved away from Maine prior to 1850 - I located him in Pike County, Ohio. The first child of Glockus and Mary Thompson Crosby, Iona (born Aug 1868), was my great-great-grandmother. In 1873, the Crosby family moved on to Kansas. A biography of Ezra Crosby, extracted from a history accounting of Ottawa County, KS from a book titled, "History of Kansas", provides more information. Ezra Crosby married Elizabeth Mallichs, of Scotish parents, in 1842 Pike County. Their oldest son and my third great-grandfather, Glockus Parker Crosby, was born in 1843 Pike County, Ohio. The next location I have on the Ezra Crosby family was in West Union TWP, Fayette County, Iowa. In August 1866, Glockus married Mary Ann Thompson, daughter of William and Mary Learns Thompson, in Fayette County, IA. Looking through the 1860 and 1870 census reports for Thompson families, I recorded many that could possibly be related - including a probable Learns uncle. I was able to verify much of the Crosby data I have from the Ottawa County death records of Glockus and Mary Thompson Crosby, and the marriage records of Loren E. Crosby and the children of Glockus and Mary. Glockus and Mary Crosby remained in Ottawa County until their deaths. The 1924 death notice on Glockus contained interesting information on his Iowa background and his exploits during the Civil War. Mary Thompson Crosby died the following year. In 1886 Ottawa County, KS, Iona Crosby married Joseph Edmund Davis. Joseph was the son of John and Elizabeth Stewart Davis. Joseph and Iona remained in Ottawa County until their deaths and are buried at Highland Cemetery, in Minneapolis. Iona remarried to Andrew Staley a few years after Joseph's death. Joseph and Iona Crosby Davis were the parents of my great-grandfather, Elzy Ray Davis.     Classic Poetry Series Harry Crosby - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Harry Crosby(4 June 1898 - 10 December 1929) Harry Crosby was an American heir, a bon vivant, poet, publisher, and for some, epitomized the Lost Generation in American literature. He was the son of one of the richest banking families in New England, a member of the Boston Brahmin, and the nephew of Jane Norton Grew, the wife of financier J. P. Morgan, Jr.. As such, he was heir to a portion of a substantial family fortune. He was a volunteer in the American Field Service during World War I, and later served in the U.S. Ambulance Corps. He narrowly escaped with his life. Profoundly affected by his experience in World War I, Crosby vowed to live life on his own terms and abandoned all pretense of living the expected life of a privileged Bostonian. He had his father's eye for women, and in 1920 met Mrs. Richard Peabody (née Mary Phelps Jacob), six years his senior. They had sex within two weeks, and their open affair was the source of scandal and gossip among blue-blood Boston. Mary (or Polly as she was called) divorced her alcoholic husband and to her family's dismay married Crosby. Two days later they left for Europe, where they devoted themselves to art and poetry. Both enjoyed a decadent lifestyle, drinking, smoking opium regularly, traveling frequently, and having an open marriage. Crosby maintained a coterie of young ladies that he frequently bedded, and wrote and published poetry that dwelled on the symbolism of the sun and explored themes of death and suicide.

December 5 — Reception The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta hosted a faculty and staff reception in the cafeteria on December 5. Refreshments were presented in appreciation of work well done. December 7 --Christmas Caroling The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Christmas caroled at Grady Hospital on December 7. The children in the pediatric unit were the emphasis of our visit. A good time was had by all. December 22 -- Toy and Clothng Drive ends The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta presented the Salvation Army with clothes and toys totalling over &200.00 for the months of November and December. Mrs Hardeman and Batissa Edwards chaired this event. December 22 — Empty Stocking Fund The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Chapter volunteered their services in order to help with the Enpty -Stocking Bund. Phyllis Meredith chaired the project where sorors helped with distributing toys in the Lakewood Shopping Center. * s Z ervict August 26 - 30— Decorating of Campus for Freshman Week The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Chapter hung a banner welcoming the incoming freshmen. September 12 — Bird Cage Clean-up The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Sigma Chapter cleaned up the courtyard of Building One in the Clark College Courts, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The leaves were raked, the weeds were pulled, and the symbols in the center were painted.

Access: Open for research Administrative Information Acquisition: Purchase, 1968, 1986 (R4110, R11095) Processed by: Robert Kendrick, 1996-1997 Repository: Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin Ford, Charles Henri, 1913-2002 Biographical Sketch Charles Henri Ford, artist, poet, editor, and filmmaker, was born on February 13, 1913, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. In his teens, Ford had two poems, "Interlude" and "In the Park (For a Gold Digger)," published in the New Yorker, after which he continued to publish poetry in various little magazines, such as Free Verse and Contemporary Verse. Ford dropped out of high school in 1929 in order to publish, with Parker Tyler and Kathleen Tankersley, the little magazine Blues: A Magazine of New Rhythms. Envisioned as a vehicle for experimental writing, Blues boasted such contributors as Kay Boyle, Witter Bynner, Erskine Caldwell, Harry Crosby, E. E. Cummings, James T. Farrell, H. D., Oliver Jenkins, Eugene Jolas, Ezra Pound, Kenneth Rexroth, Laura Riding, Herman Spector, Gertrude Stein, Laurence Vail, William Carlos Williams, and Louis Zukofsky. During this period, Ford continued to publish his poems in Blues and other little magazines, including Transition, New Review, and Tambour. After a brief stint in Greenwich Village beginning in 1930, Ford sailed for Paris in 1931, where he quickly ensconced himself in the expatriate literary community.
