She is survived by three daughters, Shirley, (Mrs. Leonard Hawco), and Muriel, (Mrs. Collin Purcell), both of Mulgrave; Beverley, (Mrs. John Ryan), Montreal; a son, Harold, Lower Sackville; a sister, Mrs. Cecilia Levangie, Frankville; 10 grandchildren, a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband. Joseph H. The body is in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, . Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Chronicle Herald Monday Nov 12, 1984 Mary Virginia Legere, 87, of West Havre Boucher died Saturday at home. Born in Isle Madam, Richmond County, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Levangie. She was a member of t. Paul's parish in Havre Boucher. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillias Legere, four sisters and five brothers. The body is in the family residence in West Havre Boucher. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. William DeCoursey officiating, burial in Parish cemetery.

He was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish. He was an employee of Cunard Fuels for more than 20 years and worked at Ledwidges Mill until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Neave; four daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Earl Corkum), Peggy (Mrs. Larry Gibbon) and Diane (Mrs. Vince Horne), all of Enfield, and Jean (Mrs. Byron Slaunwhite), Terence Bay; five sons, George, Beaver Bank; Donald, Spryfield; Ernest, Enfield; John and Peter, Oldham; a sister, Mrs. Mary Supple, Halifax; grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Sophie Lightle. The body is in Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Enfield. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today in St. Bernard’s Church, Rev. Charles Donovan officiating. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fougere and was a resident of Petit De Grat for the past 46 years. Surviving are his wife the former Madonna Boudreau; five sons, Clarence, Francis, both of St. Catharines, Ont.; Arthur, Paul, Albert, Petit De Grat; four daughters, Sister Marie Fougere, Moncton; Elaine (Mrs. Laurier Boudreau), St. Catharines, Joan (Mrs. James Bowen), Rocky Bay; Donna (Mrs. David Boudreau), Boudreauville; five sisters, Irene (Mrs. Bill Wilkie), North Sydney; May (Mrs. Garfield Hunter), Moncton; Mary (Mrs. Linus Landry), Petit De Grat; Cecile (Mrs. Eugene Nells), Mrs. Almina Goddard, both of California; 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Britten, one brother Mark, at home; and four sisters, Sharon, Delores (Mrs. Rod MacDonald), Port Hawkesbury; Colleen (Mrs. Henry MacRae) Arichat, and Cynthia, residing in Alberta. She was predeceased by brother Denis and sister Marlene. The funeral mass was celebrated by Rev. J. MacDonald PP, at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Pallbearers were first cousins Karen, Ruth, Claire, Joan and Janet Britten and Geralyn George. Burial in the Parish Cemetery under the direction of Boudreau Funeral Services.

Surviving besides his mother, is his wife, the former Mona MacMillan; 2 daughters, Donna (Mrs. Eric Birmingham), St. Catherine's: Sharon (Mrs. William MacPherson), Port Hawkesbury; 4 sons, Tom, John and Gerald of St. Catherine's and Timothy, at home; 5 sisters, Ellen (Mrs. Ralph Burke), Halifax; Miss. Anne Proctor and Miss Loyola, both of Toronto; Rose (Mrs. Jim Maclntyre), Evanston and Judy (Mrs. Darryl Kawaja), Port Hawkesbury; 4 brothers, John, Antigonish; Mervin, Whiteside; Arthur, Lower Sackville; Wallace, Dartmouth; and 7 grandchildren. Murdock Leonard Mombourquette, 84, of 5565 Cornwallis St., Halifax, died Saturday at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Felix and Annie (Thibeau) Mombourquette. He served in the first world war and was a member of the Scotia Branch, Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Barron, two daughters, Isabelle (Mrs. John Wagerman), Halifax; Linda (Mrs. Patrick Briand), L'Ardoise; three sons, Clifford, Stanley and Allen, all of Halifax; also 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Felix, Simon, Ned, James, Abraham, and two sisters, Mary and Nora.

Scotia Sun Feb 22, 1978 PETIT DE GRAT - The community of Petit de Grat was saddened by the death of one of its life-long residents, Mrs. Lilly Archange Landry, 84, died at Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s on Thursday, February 9, after a lengthy illness. Born in Petit de Grat she was the former Lilly Archange Boudreau, daughter of the late Dominic and Archange Boudreau. Besides her husband, Joseph, she is survived by a son Ralph, one daughter Emma (Mrs. Alex Babin), two sisters Emma, 94, and Alma, 79, both of Petit de Grat, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral took place in St. Joseph’s Parish Church with Rev. C.P. Gerroir officiating. Interment was in Star of the Sea cemetery on February 11. Pallbearers were Alphonse, Josseyln, Vincent, Vander, Edward and Clarence Landry, all nephews of the deceased. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of C.H. Boudreau Funeral Services.

Born In Little Dover, he was a son of the late Charles and Marie (Sampson) Richard. He was a machinist with HMC Dockyard, Halifax Shipyards and later with Fairey Aviation. He lived in Dartmouth most of his life and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Shields; four daughters, Evelyn McCall, Shirley Richard, Theresa Peavey and Mona Heisler, all of Dartmouth; seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. The body is in Dartmouth Funeral Home. Funeral will be 9 a.m. today in St. PauI's Church, Dartmouth. Scotia Sun Wednesday Feb 8, 1978 Joseph Francis Fortune - The sudden death of the late Francis Fortune occurred at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish on December 19, 1977 at the age of 65. The funeral of the late Mr. Fortune was held on Thursday, December 22, 1977 with Solemn High Mass in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Petit de Grat attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The officiating priest was Rev. C.P. Gerrior assisted by the Rev. J.J. MacDonald, Arichat, Rev. James Mombourquette, Louisdale, and Rev. Daniel Doucet, D’Escousse. Also assisting mass was brother Leo Richards. The pall-bearers were D’assise Landry, Clem Benoit, John MacDonald, Phil Benoit, Glen Landry and Anthony Fortune. The funeral was under the direction of C.H. Boudreau Funeral Director, Arichat. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fortune, Petit de Grat. He is survived by two brothers Edward and Henry, both of Petit de Grat; three sisters, Irene, St. Peter’s; Florence (Mrs. Andrew Landry), Clara (Mrs. Bennie Landry), both of Petit de Grat and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is survived by three elderly sisters; Mary (Mrs. James Reynolds) of Nashua, New Hampshire, 95; Louise Goyetche, 91, Antigonish, N.S. and Rev. Sister Eliza Goyetche, 90 at Moncton, N.B.; also four daughters Beatrice (Mrs. Leo Keefe) of Little Dover; Mabel (Mrs. Daniel Casey); Ethel (Mrs. Joseph Demers) and Alfreda (Mrs. Paul Tripanier), all of Fairhaven, Mass.; 15 grandchildren and 33 great -grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; one infant daughter, one son and one granddaughter. Burial took place from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Fairhaven, Mass.

Born in Rockdale, she was a son of the late Maurice and Margaret (Wincey) Martell. He retired in 1962, having worked in the Mills Department at Sydney Steel Corporation for 42 years. He was a veteran of the First World War. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are five sons, Harold, Dartmouth; Alfred, Porter's Lake, Halifax County; Donald, Henry and Albert, all of Halifax; two daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Gordon Cole), Lower Sackville; and Margaret (Mrs. Raymond Goyetche), Halifax; 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Helen Jane McPhee, Poulamon; five brothers, Simon, Dannie, Albert, Harry, and Willie; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Thomas Flaherty) and Jane Martell; and a grandson, Harold Jr. The body is in St. Hyacinth's Church, D'Escousse where funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, with burial in the parish cemetery. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 150, Arichat where he served on the executive as sergeant-of-arms. He was employed with Packers for 23 years, retiring 10 years ago. He is survived by his wife, the former Tena Elizabeth Pottie; a daughter, Dana, at home. He was predeceased by a brother, Murdock, and a sister, Elizabeth. The body is in St. Hyacinth Church, D'Escousse, from where military funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in parish cemetery.

Chronicle Herald Saturday Feb 16, 1980 Victor Bonin Campbell, of Park Haven Estates, formerly of Arichat, died at the Victoria General Hospital Friday. Born in River Bourgeois, he was the son of the late John and Annie Bonin Campbell. He spent several years in Dundas, Ont., where he operated the Farmer’s Market, retiring to Arichat in 1968. He is survived by his stepmother, Mrs. Doris Campbell; two sons, Gordon, Liverpool and Stuart, Ontario; one sister. Doris (Mrs. Laurie Umlah); three brothers, John J. and Harold, both of Halifax, and Bruce, Victoria. The body is at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Robie Street, where funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. J.W. Tattrie officiating. Interment will be in Emmanual cemetery in the spring. Born in West Arichat she was a daughter of the late James Babin and Virginia Roy. Mrs. Meunier was predeceased by her husband, William. Surviving are three sons, Clifford, West Arichat; Rene, London, Ontario and David of Toronto; three daughters Lucille (Lucy) (Mrs. William Adie); Doris (Mrs. Lorenzo Forgeron), both of West Arichat and Dorothy (Dot) (Mrs. Alan Melanson) of Halifax; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. A requiem high mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, West Arichat, Tuesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. Father MacMillan officiated. All donations will be forwarded to the St. Anne’s Community and Nursing Care Centre Building Fund, Arichat in Mrs. Meunier’s memory. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat.

The body at St Joseph Church in Petit de Grat from where a Requiem Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, June 11, with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Burial followed in the Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit de Grat. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat.

He is survived by five daughters, Loretta (Mrs. Gerald Marchand); Evelyn (Mrs. James Conrad) and Esther (Mrs. Lawrence Fougere) all of Halifax; Lucy (Mrs. Francis Martell), Arichat; Doris (Mrs. Vernon Marchand) of Louisdale; Henry of Halifax. one brother Robbie, Petit de Grat; twenty grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born in Linwood, Antigonish County, she was the daughter of the Late Oscar and Harriet (DeCoste) Pettipas. She was active in the community and was involved for many years with the Co-op Society, the Credit Union, the Home and School and Lioness Club. She recently retired from the River Bourgeois Credit Union. She is survived by her husband, Murdock, five sons, Kelvin, Leonard and Billy, all of St. Peters; John, Dartmouth; Clarence, Montreal; four daughters, Rebecca (Mrs. Stephen Coull), Helen and Elisa, all of St. Peter’s; Leah (Mrs. Ray Jeffrey), Sydney Forks; her step-father, James DeWolfe; a brother, James; a sister, Theresa (Mrs. John Delorey), all of Linwood; a foster brother, Herby Simms, Ontario; 17 grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers, Marshall, Leonard, and four in infancy; a sister in infancy; one daughter, Carole O’Brien. The body is in the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Born at Mabou, he was a son of the late Alex and Sarah Rankin. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He was an agricultural representative for Richmond County for 33 years. In 1967, he became a teacher in Richmond County and retired in 1971. He was active in the formation of Camp Rankin, a 4H camp at Cape George which bears his name. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Gena Sampson, of River Bourgeois; two sons, Clair, Halifax; Charles, at home; four daughters, Mary (Mrs. Gilbert Castelin), Alabama; Ann, Doris and Susan, all at home; two stepsons, John Ross, Port Hawkesbury; Kemp Ross, Ottawa; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine MacIsaac, Judlque; Mary, Boston, four brothers, Joe, Calgary; John and Peter, both of Judique; Donald, North Sydney. He came here three weeks ago from Louisdale, Richmond County, to visit members of his family. Besides his widow, he is survived by five sons, Amadie, Edward, Harry, Joseph and Louis, all in Sydney; daughters are Mrs. James MacDonald, Mrs. Walter Kraszwda, Mrs. Alvin Forrester, Mrs. Doucette. A son died last year in Toronto. A brother, James Boudreau, lives at Louisdale. The remains are resting at the Doucette residence and funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Having recovered from a stroke, which she suffered some four years ago she was in seemingly good health, and her sudden passing comes as a shock to her many friends. A native of McNab's Cove, the deceased was in her 69th year. She moved to Sydney 40 year ago, and since that time resided on McLeod Street. She was a devout Catholic, and very active in the Ladies; Sodalities of Holy Redeemer Parish. She is survived by her husband, seven sons, Lewis, Roderick, Daniel, Neil, Angus, of Sydney; John William and Alexander, of Toronto, also four daughters, Mrs. Alex MacDonald (Catherine), Mrs. Cecil Pearson (Jane), Mrs. Mrs. Mary Morrison, of Sydney, and Mrs. William Rudderham (Helen), of Dartmouth, Neil MacNeil and John Dan MacNeil of Sydney are brothers of the deceased. Leona retired from the McGillivray Guest Home as a personal care worker. Chronicle Herald Tuesday June 23, 1964 Sydney - Mrs. Felix Fougere, 76, a resident of Poulamond, Richmond County, died suddenly Saturday, June 13, in St. Rita Hospital, Sydney. The former Josephine Marchand, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Desire Marchand of Pondville. Besides her husband, Mrs. Fougere is survived by three daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Thomas Sampson), Anita (Mrs. Val Poirier) and Theresa (Mrs. James Landry) with whom he had resided for the past several months, all living in Sydney. Also surviving are four brothers, Tom, Henry, Leoni and Joseph, and four sisters, Mrs. Tom Voutour (Alvina), Mrs. Andrew Boudreau (Evangeline), Mrs. Emma Martell and Mrs. Raymond Marchand (Laura). Her only son Gerald, was killed in action in World War II. Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated Tuesday in St. Hyacinth Church, D'Escousse and Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

He was assisted by Msgr. Boudreau and Very Rev. Poirier. Capt. Forgeron died at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 81. Born at West Arichat, he was the son of the late Placide and Louise Forgeron. He started his sailing careen as a youth on a four-masted schooner out of New York. Years later he returned here and sailed his own schooner until he retired 18 years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence LeJeune, three daughters, Zelia, Florida; Dorothy (Mrs. Clifford Boudreau), with whom he resided, sister Alexis Maria, Moncton; seven sons, Wilfred, Edmond, Edward, Abraham, Clarence, Hubert and Albert, all at his bedside at the time of his death; one sister, Barbara, Boston; one brother,, Wilson, at home; 24 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Cape Breton Post Wednesday Sept 8, 1976 Elmer Britten, 51, of 201 Alexandra Street, chairman of the mathematics department of the College of Cape Breton, died this morning at the Victoria General Hospital after an illness of several months. Born in Poirierville, he was a son of Mrs. Clara Britten and the late James Britten. He had been associated with the College of Cape Breton since it opened in 1951. He was a graduate of the Arichat High School, the Normal College in Truro and St. F. X. University. Mr. Britten graduated from Notre Dame University in 1956 with his master's degree in chemistry. He was a member of the National Council of Mathematics Teachers and the Nova Scotia Mathematics Association. He past president of the Children’s Aid Society, past president of the Isle Royale Credit Union and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Charities and the St. Anthony Daniel Parish Council. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Mary Campbell of Sydney, five sons, Jimmy, Antigonish; Paul, John, Allen and Ronnie, at home; two daughters, Kay (Mrs. Dave Musgrave) and Louise, both of Sydney. Also surviving are two sisters, Eula (Mrs. Dave Sampson, Halifax and Joan (Mrs. Frank Poirier), Port Hawkesbury; three brothers, Lloyd, Mira Road, Clem, Port Hawkesbury and Bernie, Coxheath. Chronicle Herald Saturday Feb 16, 1980 Gaston LeBlanc, 38, Liberal MLA for Richmond in the Nova Scotia Legislature, died Friday morning at his home in West Arichat following a lengthy illness. An electrical engineer by profession, Mr. LeBlanc was first elected to the Nova Scotia legislature in 1974, and was re-elected to a second term in the general election in 1978. Born in West Arichat, he was the son of Rodolphe and Anna Marie LeBlanc. He is survived by his wife Edwina; two children, Jacques and Danielle, both at home; his mother, at home; a brother, Arthur, of Port Hawkesbury; and a sister, Elaine, of Halifax. He was predeceased by his father and two infant brothers. A graduate of the Nova Scotia Technical College, he was employed by the Nova Scotia Power Corporation at Point Tupper as an electrical engineer. Funeral service will be held at West Arichat. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. His family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross. Premier John Buchanan expressed the government's deep sympathy to Mrs. LeBlanc and the family, saying Mr. LeBlanc was a gentleman who will be missed in his community and in the legislature, where he was well liked. Interim Opposition Leader Benoit Comeau said he was deeply saddened by Mr. LeBlanc’s death. A sister (Clara) Mrs. Roderick MacDougall resides in Toronto and she is also survived by 32 grandchildren and by 13 great grandchildren.
