TITLE OF Ph.D THESIS: “Some Problems in the Statistical Analysis of Daily Rainfall Data” AREAS OF INSTERST: Analyzing long records (25-60 years) of daily rainfall data of a site(s) by fitting the recent rainfall models on certain aspects of agriculture. The aim is to provide useful formation to the farmers/agriculturists on the probability of rainfall and amount of rainfall at certain time of the year, start of the rainy season, risk of dry spell after sowing and the incidence of heavy rainfall etc. NUMBER OF PUBLICATIONS: Nineteen RESEARCH/ PROJECT COMPLETED: My Research project titled ‘Analyzing daily rainfall data of various sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to give agronomically useful results” was granted by UGC (now HEC), Islamabad. The project was completed in 2004. This research presents work on the application of probability models (using generalized linear models) to the analysis of daily rainfall data from Peshawar, Kohat, D.I.Khan, Swat, Dir and Kakul (Abbottabad). The daily rainfall data for these sites vary from 26 to 39 years. PRESENT RESEARCH: My research project titled “Model fifing of daily rainfall data for agricultural planning in some selected rainfed/partially rainfed areas of Pakistan” has been approved by the University Review Research Committee (URRC) in 2008 under the HEC-AUP research promotion program. The duration of this project is 2 years. The daily rainfall data (ranging from 19 to 57 3 years) of Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Kamra and Mianwali have been obtained from Regional Meteorological Centre, Lahore and the work is in progress.
