BOIL AT THE ‘BU (Seafood) The Carbon Beach Club at the Malibu Beach Inn holds a nightly “boil” beginning on Monday and running for the entire month. During the “Boil at the ‘Bu,” guests can choose from Live Maine Lobster, Oregon Dungeness Crabs or Alaskan King Crab Legs. Each order is steamed in white wine broth with two PEI mussels, two littleneck clams, two Mexican shrimp and is served with Red Bliss potatoes, boiler onion, corn on the cob and Linguica sausage with a choice of coleslaw or salt and vinegar chips. The “Boil” is available nightly from 5:30 pm until close for $50 per person. The restaurant’s regular menu is also available.

SILVER SNAKES (Music) L.A.’S own rockers band Silver Snakes finish up their Silverlake Lounge residency on Monday night. They’re playing in advance of their upcoming release Saboteur (Feb. 5 on Evil Ink Records) and upcoming tour opening on several dates for Coheed And Cambria’s upcoming tour. Also playing: The Royal Sound, Minnow and AEGES. Doors at 7 pm, show at 8 pm. 21+. Free.

POUTINERIE (Food) Every Monday and Tuesday evening starting at 6pm, the North Hollywood gastro pub The Federal Bar transforms into a “Poutinerie,” offering its own take on the classic French­Canadian dish, Poutine. Traditionally made with french fries and cheese curds topped with gravy, the Federal Bar offers a variety of poutines or the opportunity for guests to create their own (starting with French fries, sweet potato fries or tator tots).

RICHARD ZARATE (Food) On Monday from 6­9:30 pm, Hinoki & the Bird welcomes guest chef Ricardo Zarate as he teams up with Hinoki & the Bird executive chef Brandon Kida for an exclusive 5­course tasting menu ($48). The menu draws inspiration from Hinoki & the Bird’s travel­inspired ethos and Zarate’s award­winning Peruvian cuisine and includes: Tuna Ceviche Salad, Buckwheat Soba, Roasted Pacific Halibut, Peruvian Duck on Rice and Ilaka Chocolate. Zarate also signs copies of his latest cookbook at the event. Reservations required: 310.552.1200.

LENA FAYRE (Music) LA­based musician Lena Fayre has a February residency at The Bootleg every Monday of the month in support of her latest EP Is There Only One? The singer/songwriter, whose music has been featured on The Vampire Diaries, performs this month with many special guests including AKW, Vox, YASSOU, Trace and others to be announced. Free.

TUESDAY, FEB. 2 WOMEN IN OPERA AND SONG (Music) The Beach=Culture series at the Annenberg Community Beach House presents Going to Extremes: Women in Opera and Song on Tuesday from 6­8 pm. Soprano Shana Blake Hill, mezzo­soprano Audrey Babcock and pianist Victoria Kirsch come together for an evening of favorites and lesser known works from opera, broadway and the classical songbook.

EMO NIGHT (Music) The monthly Emo Night: Taking Back Tuesday returns to the Echoplex bringing together people who share a love of emo music from the 90’s to today (Brand New, New Found Glory to American Football, Death Cab For Cutie et al). Surprise guest DJs spin inside. The event, which begins at 9 pm PT, is free to the first 100 people in line, and $5 after. The event is 21+.

LANGAN WITH A Z (Comedy + cabaret) Writer and comedian Langan Kingsley presents her show Langan with a Z, Alive and In Concert on Tuesday at 8 pm at Open Space on Fairfax. The cabaret performance also features comics Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp along with some special guests. Free.

DIRTY DANCING (Musical) Dirty Dancing begins a limited run at the Pantages Theater on Tuesday night. The classic film, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, transformed into a live stage production about 17­year­old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and her summer in New York’s Catskill Mountains in 1963. The show runs Tuesday through Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 pm and 8 pm, and Sunday at 1 pm and 6:30 pm. Tickets start at $25 in the orchestra. Tickets: $29­$150.

UCBLACK HISTORY MONTH (Comedy) UCBlack History Month Show is at UCB Franklin on Tuesday at 9:30 pm. Join Echo Kellum, Marshall Givens and Colton Dunn on a journey through Black History. Watch a “story of struggle, of adversity, of triumph and of freedom. A story best told through sketch comedy.” Tickets: $5.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 3

FLUX SCREENING SERIES (Film) Flux Screening Series returns to the Hammer Museum on Wednesday at 7:30 pm, featuring short films, music videos and visual art from around the world. This week’s program features the L.A. premieres of Sight Unseen by Joel Knoernschild, Suzi Yoonessi and Charlene deGuzman's The Chemistry of Love, Terri Timely’s Input/Output and AG Rojas’ To Ü for Skrillex & Diplo feat. AlunaGeorge. The evening also includes new music videos for David Bowie, Tame Impala, Miike Snow and more. Filmmaker presentations and an after­party in the courtyard follows. Free.

FREDERICK GAUTIER (Art) Please Do Not Enter, the men’s retailer and exhibition space in DTLA, presents an exhibition by Frederick Gautier from Feb. 3­March 15. The show marks the West Coast debut of 30 “Brutalist” teapots by the experimental, Parisian artist and designer who created the functional teapots from concrete. Please Do Not Enter holds a tea party/reception on Wednesday from 6­9 pm.

Artist Gary Sweeney turns his family home into an art installation in 'A Manhattan Beach Memoir 1945­ 2015.' (Image: Gary Sweeney) A MANHATTAN BEACH MEMOIR: 1945­2015 (Art installation) Last week, San Antonio­based artist Gary Sweeney unveiled the installation A Manhattan Beach Memoir: 1945­2015 as an “homage to his upbringing, family and the Manhattan Beach Of the past.” The exhibition features 80 large­scale graphics of Sweeney’s personal family photos that are visible from the street and alley at 320 35th St. Manhattan Beach. The project will be on view during February, after which the Sweeney family home of more than 70 years will be razed for a new development. Sweeney provides guided tours of the exhibit every Wednesday in February (February 3, 10, 17 and 24) from 4 to 7 pm.

THURSDAY, FEB. 4

LAWRENCE SCHILLER RETROSPECTIVE (Film) Cinefamily holds a weekend retrospective with Oscar­winning filmmaker Lawrence Schiller to celebrate the restoration of The American Dreamer, the director’s cinéma vérité portrait of actor­artist Dennis Hopper. Schiller’s film was originally released only on college campuses in 1971 at the same time as Hopper’s The Last Movie was released. The screenings begin on Thursday night at 7:30 pm with a Show & Tell with Schiller and a screening of the 1975 Oscar­winning doc The Man Who Skied Down Everest, which Schiller co­directed with Bruce Nyznik. Tickets: $14.

GEHRY AND MUSIC (Conversation) In conjunction with LACMA’s exhibition Frank Gehry (on view through March 20), the museum teams with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association to present the program, Gehry and Music: Esa­Pekka Salonen, Deborah Borda, and Stephanie Barron in Conversation with Frank Gehry. The discussion— with former LA Phil conductor Salonen, LA Phil President and CEO Borda and curator Barron—will focus on the architect's process and collaboration during the planning and construction of Walt Disney Concert Hall. The event will be held at 8 pm on Thursday at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Tickets: $25.

BAIO (Music) Baio—Chris Baio, the bassist from Vampire Weekend—plays the El Rey on Thursday night featuring music from his debut solo album The Names. Opening the show are Elohim, Michl & Marion Hodges. Doors at 8 pm, show at 9 pm. Tickets: $18­$20. All ages.

GERD LUDWIG (Art) Fahey/Klein Gallery on La Brea opens Sleeping Cars, a solo exhibition of works by Gerd Ludwig, with a reception on Thursday from 7­9 pm. The show features large­scale photographs of “resting cars” at night throughout L.A. The show remains on view through March 19.

IRANIAN POST­REVOLUTION CINEMA (Lecture) The 2nd Annual Distinguished Lecture Series at USC, sponsored by Farhang Foundation, presents the lecture Iranian Post­Revolution Cinema: From Iconoclasm to Global Cinema by Professor Hamid Naficy of Northwestern University. The event is free and open to the public.

GANDHI SHOW (Comedy) Westside Comedy Theater presents the latest installment of The Gandhi Show, hosted by Christian Duguay, David Foster and Ryan Conner on Tuesday at 8 pm. Performing standup this week are: Ahmed Bharoocha, Caitlin Gill, Jack Robichaud and John Campanelli. Doors 7:45 pm, show at 8 pm. Tickets: $5.

COMEDY PALACE (Comedy) Comedy Palace, the weekly comedy show above a Chinese restaurant in Los Feliz, presents live standup, performances, stories from Demetri Martin, Guy Branum, Alice Wetterlund, a special residency by Adam Newman and more. 9 pm. Free, but get there early for a seat.
