Hola Amigo !

Hello from Cozumel ! Welcome to the November '19 edition of the Cozumel Drift - our newsletter that keeps you up to date on whats happening here at the dive shop, the hotel, as well as your favorite island - Cozumel.

1st things 1st - BIENVENIDOS - welcome to anyone new to The Drift. We are thrilled that you vacationed with us, and hope that you enjoyed your time here. A big GRACIAS to everyone for coming. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Marine Park to Open Early!

The Marine Park is tentatively set to open back up on December 15th. The original plan would have kept it closed until January 6, 2020. The advisory board to the Marine Park met and suggested that the date be moved up. Since the closure was an action taken to make other things move into motion, the length of time was apparently of no concern. Or possibly opening 3 weeks earlier would not make such a difference. Is this enough time? Who knows. We won’t know until we are back diving there. And as of yet, no notifications from the Marine Park hvae been received.

During this closure, ANOAAT (AssociatioN of Operators of Aquatic AcTivities - Scuba Shack is a member) have been assisting the Marine Park to patrol the areas, early in the morning and late in the day - evenings/nights. We supply the boat, gas and captain, and the Marine Park reps are on board. These activities have successfully caught a number of illegal local fisherman fishing in the park. So that has been VERY helpful.

Stony Coral Disease is affecting the ENTIRE Caribbean, especially Florida. HERE you can read the latest article on it, published Nov 21.

The park closure had included Palancar, Columbia and all the reefs south of their including El Cielo. since October 7th. If you missed our Special Edition Newsletter in September you can still read it by going HERE. FREE B uoyancy Class

Great control does not mean missing that next shot but it does take practice. In fact, it is the ONLY dive skill that has an entire course dedicated ONLY to it. That is how important and tricky this skill is. Whether you are a new diver or been diving for years, buoyancy control is necessary to protect our under water environment by staying off the reefs and bottom. We at Scuba Shack want to do our part on assisting with the protecting the reefs. Therefore in 2020 Scuba Shack Cozumel will begin offering FREE, ya you heard me right, FREE buoyancy classes to our divers.

Follow us on Facebook to keep up with the latest news on this class, or inquire at the dive shop during your next visit.

As divers, our passion and love of the ocean should be the initiative to help make it better. It's not only about what we do, but what we can also teach others to do - To learn and respect this wonderful rock in our solar system - earth, be it above or below the water. We just happen to really love the below the water aspect more than most..... We hope that you will continue to support all of the island and your family here in Cozumel by continuing to come and see the magic that we have here underwater.

As always, a special thanks to you, our special friends and customers. We so love seeing you year after year and diving with us..... you are like family to us! We hope to see you again soon to show you the wonders of Cozumel, both above and below ground !
