Festival president Rosemary Bennett said she is often asked how the event has survived for so many years. Rosemary’s reply is simple. “We stay true to our word with our promotion of fine food, beverages and crafts that are sourced purely from the Huon and Channel region,” Rosemary said. Held at the recreation ground at Ranelagh — a short 30 minute drive south of Hobart — the annual festival will be run next week over the Labour Day long weekend next week Rosemary said the quality of stalls comes from the strict criteria stallholders have to adhere to. “Their product has to be sourced from the Huon Valley and Channel region, purposely they work with the committee to present a professional stall and to provide wholesome, healthy, fresh food and beverages that are passionately prepared for the two day festival,” she said. “Where in the world would you expect to find green and black tea grown at Nichols Rivulet, premium honey from Bruny Island and the Weld Valley, gorgeous cut flowers from the Cradoc nursery, beer, wine, cider and milk soaps, tasty goats cheese and saffron, from the Channel region all on one parcel of land.” The festival will host more than 40 food stalls with everything from tiny pancakes from the Smallest Pancakes in Town to Indonesian Martabak cooked using the freshest Huon Valley products. Renowned Japanese sushi chef Masaaki Koyama will be working with the finest products from Huon Aquaculture to serve up traditional Japanese dishes. The best of the Huon Valley’s beverages will be on offer with award-winning Home Hill Wines, Nandroya, Hartzview, Cascade Beer & cider, Willie Smiths, Frank’s and the Kombi Keg Hobart all heading to Ranelagh for the weekend. The festival will also include indulgences for the senses with soap from Bar Nekkid Soap, beauty products from More Than Skin Deep or fresh cut flowers from Blooming Good Flowers, and trees and shrubs from Ranelagh & Leslie Vale Nursery. Accommodation is close by for those looking to stay the weekend, with Huonville Caravan Park just two minutes away from the Ranelagh Showgrounds. A Taste of the Huon will run from Sunday, February 12, to Monday, February 13, kicking off from 10am each day. Tickets are $10 for adults and can be purchased online at www.tasteofthehuon.com and at the gate. Entry for children under 12 is free.
