It is dedicated to publishing scientifically sound research articles dealing with all aspects of ecotoxicology. This includes acute and chronic toxicity studies measuring lethal and sublethal responses, ecological impact studies pertaining to ecotoxicology, studies relating to the mechanisms of chemical toxicity, discussion of ecotoxicological theory and use of ecotoxicology information to develop and validate environmental criteria. Studies at all levels of biological organisation will be considered: from (sub-) cellular and individual organisms to population and community studies. All data must be generated by statistically and analytically sound research, and all papers will be peer reviewed by at least two reviewers prior to their being considered for publication. The Journal will give priority to the publication of original research that is undertaken on the systems and organisms of the Australasian and Asia-Pacific region, but papers will be accepted from anywhere in the world. As well as scientific papers, the Journal will contain short communications, to allow the publication of original data generated in small-scale projects, and letters to the Editor are most welcome. The Editor will commission and publish reviews from time to time. Authors interested in publishing review articles are invited to contact the Editors. Titles of completed PhD and MSc theses will also be published. Material published in the Journal represents the opinions of the authors, and not necessarily those of the Editors, the Society or the Publisher. PO Box 29, Lidcombe NSW 1825 ABSTRACT As the Australasian Journal of Ecotoxicology (AJE) finishes its 16 volumes of publication with this issue, it is interesting to reflect back on its achievements since its inception in 1995 and how well it has addressed issues of importance to ecotoxicology in the Australasian region. Several editorials and reviews in the first few volumes addressed the need to fill knowledge gaps in such areas as method development, sensitivity of native species and developing regional test species, addressing environmental parameters that affect toxicity, developing environmental guidelines for water, sediment and soil, developing robust biomonitors, bioaccumulation and new and emerging chemicals. Progress has been made in many of these areas since 1995 and some of this has been reflected inAJE publications. Some reflections on the future areas for ecotoxicology are also provided. Key words: Ecotoxicology; Australasian publications; historical development. STEIGLITZ Steiglitz is an almost deserted mining town immediately south of the Brisbane Ranges National Park, 65 km south-west of Melbourne and 30 km north of Geelong. The Steiglitz locality covers an area of 4,441 hectares.

    SUBMISSION TO INQUIRY INTO ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE FOR GROWING POPULATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL AND PLANNING COMMITTEE, LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY, VICTORIA 24 September 2020 Friends of the Barwon Inc. (FOTB) represents a group of concerned citizens. The organisation was incorporated in 2019, to advocate for the protection and improvement of the ecosystem of the Barwon Basin, including the Yarrowee-Leigh and Moorabool Rivers. FOTB has over 200 members, has received financial, in-kind and moral support from a number of organizations, including: Shires of Colac-Otway and Surf Coast; Barwon Water; Corangamite Catchment Management Authority; Southern Rural Water and a large number of community organisations with connections to the Barwon, Moorabool, and Yarrowee-Leigh river basins. At its launch in July 2019, some 150 people attended, including senior representatives of the Minister for Water, G21, City of Greater Geelong, Barwon Water, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority and several shires. In particular we will suggest that the major waterways, namely the Barwon/Moorabool and the Yarrowee, flowing through these two cities respectively, are a logical option to create a network of environmental infrastructure throughout these cities and beyond. Our submission will provide suggestions for the future arrangements we believe are necessary to secure and sustain this environmental infrastructure. We strongly endorse the state government’s priority to enhance green infrastructure in our cities to create more liveable and climate-adapted communities, whilst at the same time cooling and greening the urban spaces - as has been suggested for Melbourne.

The area covered by this guide lies between Humffray Street (to the east,) Dawson and Yullie Streets (to the west,) Market and Mair Streets (to the north) and Dana and Eastwood Streets (to the south). Gnarr Creek flows through Ballarat North and enters channels under the ground from near the Creswick Road roundabout through to where it joins Yarrowee River near Grenville Street. The map below shows possible flooding if the rainfall of the December 1991 flood were to happen today. Are you at risk of flooding? Flooding in Ballarat CBD is usually caused by very heavy rainfall from local thunderstorms. The floodwater rises and falls quickly so you may not receive any warning (so it is called flash flooding). Flash flooding can turn into fast water running down streets and footpaths posing a serious risk to people on foot, mainly children. Flooding from Gnarr Creek is the major flood risk to the Ballarat CBD. During heavy rain Gnarr Creek can become full and overflow near Doveton Street. The water then flows down Market, Mair and Grenville Streets before reaching and flooding Bridge Mall. The Creek rises very quickly during major storms and can take as little as two hours to reach highest levels.
