The translation will take July a little getting used to, and it may not totally please everyone. On September 23, 1984, I spoke with Ms. Knebel and she advised me to get 30 ladies, who were interested in forming this group, from San Roberto. In 2000, in keeping with the original master plan for the large property, a new office building with a mission-styled exterior was added to the parish complex. In preparation of its 50th anniversary, from 2008 to 2010, the parish buildings received a fresh coat of paint and the parish hall kitchen, restrooms, barbecue shed and pits were renovated. In 1994, through the generosity of James Skarda, the old Sacred Heart Mis- sion was renovated at its former site into a meeting hall. It still stands today, but not in Bloomington, rather, in Port Lavaca, at our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School, where it serves as a schoolroom. The par- ish gave the structure to Our Lady of the Gulf in 2003. The year 2010 marks the 98th year of Catholicism in Bloomington. The parish numbers over 330 registered families, and the religious education program educates over 200 students. Parishioners come from Bloomington, Placedo, Da Costa, Crescent Valley, and even Victoria. The parish has contributed one vocation to the permanent diaconate when Fred Soto was ordained a deacon August 15, 1987. Parish organi- zations include the Knights of Columbus Council 10751, established in 1990; Court St. Patrick #2494 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, established in 2001; and the Guadalupañas.
