    International Angling Rules The following angling rules have been formulated by the International Game Fish Association to promote ethical and sporting angling practices, to establish uniform regulations for the compilation of world game fish records, and to provide basic angling guidelines for use in fishing tournaments and any other group angling activities. The word “angling” is defined as catching or attempting to catch fish with a rod, reel, line, and hook as outlined in the international angling rules. There are some aspects of angling that cannot be controlled through rule making, however. Angling regulations cannot insure an outstanding performance from each fish, and world records cannot indicate the amount of difficulty in catching the fish. Captures in which the fish has not fought or has not had a chance to fight do not reflect credit on the fisherman, and only the angler can properly evaluate the degree of achievement in establishing the record. Only fish caught in accordance with IGFA international angling rules, and within the intent of these rules, will be considered for world records. Following are the rules for freshwater and saltwater fishing and a separate set of rules for fly fishing. RULES FOR FISHING IN FRESH AND SALT WATER (Also see Rules for Fly fishing) E.     3 – 6 ounce whitefish filets 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery 4 green onions, trimmed and sliced 1 tablespoon flour 1/2 teaspoon Maryland Seafood Seasoning 1/2 teaspoon Lemon & Herb Seasoning 1/2 cup milk 2/3 cup shredded Swiss cheese Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter a baking dish. Pat dry the fresh or thawed filets with paper towels and place them in the buttered baking dish. In a small skillet or saucepan melt the butter over low heat. Sauté the celery and green onion for 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the flour, Maryland Seafood Seasoning, and Lemon & Herb Seasoning. Stir and cook the mixture for about 3 minutes. Gradually blend in the milk while stirring the mixture constantly. After the milk is added and the sauce thickens, stir in the Swiss cheese until it is melted. Pour this sauce over the fish in the baking dish. Bake the fish for about 25 minutes, or until it flakes easily when tested. Makes 3 servings. Aquaculture Department, Tig- bauan, ILOILO, Philippines Abstract — Commercially important tropical freshwater and marine finfishes are commonly spawned with pituitary homogenate, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and semi-purified fish gonadotropins. These preparations are often adminis- tered in two doses, a lower priming dose followed a few hours later by a higher resolving dose. Interval between the first and second injections may vary from 3 - 24 hours depending on the species. Variable doses are used even for the same species and may be due to variable potencies of the gonadotropin preparations. Synthetic analogues of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRHa) are becoming widely used for inducing ovulation and spawning in a variety of teleosts. For marine species such as milkfish, mullet, sea bass, and rabbitfish, a single LHRHa injection or pellet implant appears to be effective. Multiple spawnings of sea bass have also been obtained following a single injection or pellet implant of a high dose of LHRHa. In a number of freshwater fishes such as the cyprinids, LHRHa alone however has limited efficacy. Standardized methods using LHRHa together with the dopamine antagonists pimozide, domperidone and reserpine have been developed for various species of carps. The technique may also be applicable for spawning marine teleosts that may not respond to LHRHa alone or where a high dose of the peptide is required. Although natural spawning is the preferred method for breeding cultivated fish, induced spawning may be necessary to control timing and synchrony of egg production for practical reasons.

University Drive Pine Bluff, AR 71601 Abstract The effects of socio-demographic factors on consumer ratings of product attributes of an experimental canned bighead product were analyzed. OLS techniques were used to evaluate the effects of experience consuming other canned fish products, race, gender, age, and income on the taste, tex- ture, appearance, and aroma of canned bighead. A logit analysis was then used to measure the effects of these variables on binary choice variables related to preference comparisons and willingness-to-pay as much for canned bighead as for canned salmon and canned tuna. Responses between the com- parisons of canned bighead and canned salmon or canned tuna varied. In- come, region, and gender significantly affected ratings on product attributes while taste variables significantly affected consumers' willingness-to-pay as much for canned bighead as for canned tuna. Conditional probabilities showed more clearly the effects of age, income, and gender on taste ratings, the subsequent effects of taste on preferences, and ultimately on willingness-to- pay. Probabilities estimated showed that canned bighead competes more fa- vorably with canned tuna than with canned salmon.
