Jacksonville St. 0-2 Long Island 0-1 In addition, Delaware State was second in the MEAC in scoring (73.4 ppg) Manhattan 0-1 Md. Eastern Shore 2-3 and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.315) in Skeeters’ second Morgan State 0-3 season at the helm. Longwood 0-1 Loyola (Md.) 0-2 His first year with the Hornets (2018-19) was highlighted by an upset road victory against First State rival Dela- NCA&T 0-4 ware, his first against a Division I opponent, and the team’s first MEAC Tournament win since 2015. NC Central 1-5 Norfolk St. 0-4 DSU senior guard Kevin Larkin was a 2018-19 All-MEAC Second Team selection and posted the league’s top Penn 0-1 Rider 0-1 scoring game of the season (40 points). Savannah St. 1-1 St. Bonaventure 0-1 Before signing with Delaware State, Skeeters was an assistant coach with the team that pulled off the biggest St. Francis (NY) 0-1 upset in the history of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. He was announced as the 13th head So. Carolina St. 1-1 coach of the Hornets on July 25, 2018 by DSU Director of Athletics Scott Gines. Va. Tech 0-1 Wake Forest 0-1 A Baltimore, Md., native, Skeeters served an assistant at Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) prior to accepting Wash. Adventist 0-1 Washington St. 0-1 the Delaware State position, serving two seasons as an assistant under head coach Ryan Odom at UMBC from Weber St. 0-1 2016-to-2018.

In March 2018, the Retrievers shocked the college basketball world and ruined millions of brackets with a histor- ic 74-54 win over top-ranked Virginia, the first-ever win by a No. 16 seed against a No. 1 seed in 136 all-time NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament match-ups.

UMBC’s 2017-18 season was also highlighted by the second America East Tournament championship in team history and a school-record 25 wins (25-11).

“Eric Skeeters stood out among an outstanding group of candidates for head coach of the Delaware State men’s basketball team,” said Gines upon the announcement. “He’s a veteran Division I assistant who contributed to successful programs in highly competitive conferences, including the MEAC. During his career, Skeeters played a key role in helping to rebuild programs, while serving on staffs that engineered two of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history.”

From 2013 to 2016, Skeeters was an assistant coach at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and the previous four years he was a member of the University of South Florida coaching staff. While at South Florida, he helped lead the Bulls to their first NCAA Tournament bid in 20 years. USF made the most of its 2012 Big Dance appearance, defeating California and Temple before falling to Ohio in the round of 32.

Skeeters’ coaching career also includes a six-year stint at Towson University (Md.), in addition to assistant positions at Virginia Tech, Youngstown State, and his alma mater, Coppin State, also a member of the MEAC.

He was a young assistant coach for the 1996-97 Coppin State team that pulled a post-season upset of the University of South Carolina, marking the second victory by a No. 15 seed over a No. 2 in NCAA Tournament history.

"Delaware State University is a unique opportunity and I look forward to putting together a staff and team that will enable us to create something spe- cial,” said Skeeters, upon his hiring at Delaware State. “As a MEAC grad, my goal from day one will be to recruit, coach and develop champions on the court, in the classroom and in the community."

Skeeters was awarded a bachelor's in Management Science from Coppin State in 1997. He and wife Marie have two sons, Evan, a student at Delaware State, and Miles.
