We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to fellowship with us, as we glorify our God through the use of A cappella Music. CAMA had its beginning in November of 1992, as a recognition program for members of the Churches of Christ who continue to promote a cappella music through the writing, singing production and the exploitation of this original form of music. Our committees have worked diligently to bring these activities together, though having been faced with a number of challenges, and with the great loss of our beloved brother, mentor and colleague, Johnnie Wilder Jr. This year we celebrate the Life, The Legend and the Legacy of our beloved brother, whom we have stated many times, formerly with Heatwave and now with the Lord, Brother Johnnie Wilder Jr. Even with the many challenges, we are thankful to our God to know that He is still good all of the time. We hope that you enjoy your weekend and that you will witness the blessed talents of over 25 different artists. Also, along with the many artist, this years’ workshops have been de- signed with your interest and needs in mind. We also encourage you to visit our vendor area where the groups and others have CD’s, DVD’s clothing and other items for sale at very competitive pric- ing. Please take time to go and meet with them and purchase your very own copy of the music and other items for sale, in our vendor music Industry area. This year we have included two new Matinee concerts for your enjoyment, we have omit- ted our regular after CAMA activity in lieu of those who will sponsor various hospitality suites on their own. We remind you as Artists and attendees, to please get the word out about this wonderful event and we look forward to seeing you and many more at the 9 th biennial event, being planned for Houston, Texas in 2008. Because CAMA is only held every two years, we encourage groups, Artist and others to start planning now and to get their congregations involved in supporting you and this effort, so that we can have bigger and better events in the future. He was born again in the same city, under the tutelage of Brother Earnest Cobb at the Westside Church of Christ. While at the Westside congregation, Brothers Jeffrey Bodie and Rucelle Cobb took him under their wings and taught him the art of congrega- tional song leading. A few years later Turner placed membership at the Southside church of Christ in Rogersville, Alabama, where Bro. Freeman Malone Jr. is the minister and joined the Southside Singers. For twelve years, they traveled together singing and writing soul stirring tunes. While at- tending college in Birmingham, Al., he performed with the spirited Inner City Singers, a traditional gospel quartet led by two dynamic gospel preachers whose direction kept him spiritually focused while away from home. His professional music career began with internationally known Straight Com- pany. For five years Turner traveled with the missionary gospel team full time throughout the United States and carried the good news to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the Republic of South Africa. An accomplished writer and en- ergetic performer, Chris Turner has written and recorded with some of the great- est names in Christian gospel music. He was blessed to write the title song on former “Heatwave” lead singer Johnny Wilders’ gospel release “One More Day” and performed with and composed a song for Joi Carr on her “Devotion” album. During his time off, Turner conducts congregational singing for gospel meetings, youth revivals and music workshops across the country. He currently has two releases available on CD, “Dreamin” and his latest release, “In The Fullness of Time.” Throughout his career, Chris Turner has attracted a young following. Nick- named, the pied piper by Jesse Murrah (“Essej” of Straight Company), he real- ized another calling in being a youth minister. For the past ten years he has served the Southside Church of Christ in Durham, North Carolina where he mentors to a youth group of over 90 active members. His work has encouraged many souls, both young and young at heart. Turner hopes to continue to minister to others in a manner that is historically astute, morally upstanding, and spiritually correct. Whether by singing, teaching, preaching, or other means, he desires to enlighten others that they may learn to live as the Creator would have them, and through him they may realize their God-given potential. His group, Heatwave, literally ex- ploded on the music scene amassing gold and multi-platinum albums. In contrast, few internationally renowned singers have experienced the agony and frustration that result from a devastating automobile accident and the very real prospects of permanent paraly- sis while at the zenith of their popularity. Johnnie Wilder's story then becomes one of dreams fulfilled and dreams deferred. But most important, it is a moving testimony of hope, coverage, and faith in God, set to the melody of his inspirational and innovative mu- sic.

As you may recall me mentioning in my Buzz column in our last issue on page 55, we are fast approaching our 100th issue. Maybe you feel that our longevity, almost sixteen years, is proof enough of our popularity. Well I think all of us here at the magazine need to have evidence a little more substantial. With conventional magazines it's simple, be it glossy form on newsagent’s shelves or on-line, popularity or lack of it is gauged by paid subscriptions. Here at Tales From The Woods, we as you would quite rightly expect, do things a little differently from other folks. The magazine is free as part of the generous perks of becoming a member along with reductions on gigs, merchandise, automatic invitations to all our social events and so forth.
