Dear Christian Friends:

Welcome to the 8 th Biennial production of the Christian A cappella Music Awards weekend. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to fellowship with us, as we glorify our God through the use of A cappella Music. CAMA had its beginning in November of 1992, as a recognition program for members of the Churches of Christ who continue to promote a cappella music through the writing, singing production and the exploitation of this original form of music. Our committees have worked diligently to bring these activities together, though having been faced with a number of challenges, and with the great loss of our beloved brother, mentor and colleague, Johnnie Wilder Jr. This year we celebrate the Life, The Legend and the Legacy of our beloved brother, whom we have stated many times, formerly with Heatwave and now with the Lord, Brother Johnnie Wilder Jr. Even with the many challenges, we are thankful to our God to know that He is still good all of the time. We hope that you enjoy your weekend and that you will witness the blessed talents of over 25 different artists. Also, along with the many artist, this years’ workshops have been de- signed with your interest and needs in mind. We also encourage you to visit our vendor area where the groups and others have CD’s, DVD’s clothing and other items for sale at very competitive pric- ing. Please take time to go and meet with them and purchase your very own copy of the music and other items for sale, in our vendor music Industry area. This year we have included two new Matinee concerts for your enjoyment, we have omit- ted our regular after CAMA activity in lieu of those who will sponsor various hospitality suites on their own. We remind you as Artists and attendees, to please get the word out about this wonderful event and we look forward to seeing you and many more at the 9 th biennial event, being planned for Houston, Texas in 2008. Because CAMA is only held every two years, we encourage groups, Artist and others to start planning now and to get their congregations involved in supporting you and this effort, so that we can have bigger and better events in the future. He was born again in the same city, under the tutelage of Brother Earnest Cobb at the Westside Church of Christ. While at the Westside congregation, Brothers Jeffrey Bodie and Rucelle Cobb took him under their wings and taught him the art of congrega- tional song leading. A few years later Turner placed membership at the Southside church of Christ in Rogersville, Alabama, where Bro. Freeman Malone Jr. is the minister and joined the Southside Singers. For twelve years, they traveled together singing and writing soul stirring tunes. While at- tending college in Birmingham, Al., he performed with the spirited Inner City Singers, a traditional gospel quartet led by two dynamic gospel preachers whose direction kept him spiritually focused while away from home.

His professional music career began with internationally known Straight Com- pany. For five years Turner traveled with the missionary gospel team full time throughout the United States and carried the good news to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the Republic of South Africa. An accomplished writer and en- ergetic performer, Chris Turner has written and recorded with some of the great- est names in Christian gospel music. He was blessed to write the title song on former “Heatwave” lead singer Johnny Wilders’ gospel release “One More Day” and performed with and composed a song for Joi Carr on her “Devotion” album. During his time off, Turner conducts congregational singing for gospel meetings, youth revivals and music workshops across the country. He currently has two releases available on CD, “Dreamin” and his latest release, “In The Fullness of Time.”

Throughout his career, Chris Turner has attracted a young following. Nick- named, the pied piper by Jesse Murrah (“Essej” of Straight Company), he real- ized another calling in being a youth minister. For the past ten years he has served the Southside Church of Christ in Durham, North Carolina where he mentors to a youth group of over 90 active members. His work has encouraged many souls, both young and young at heart. Turner hopes to continue to minister to others in a manner that is historically astute, morally upstanding, and spiritually correct. Whether by singing, teaching, preaching, or other means, he desires to enlighten others that they may learn to live as the Creator would have them, and through him they may realize their God-given potential.

Few lead singers of popular groups can point to the type of success experienced by Johnnie Wilder, Jr. during the late 70's and 80's. His group, Heatwave, literally ex- ploded on the music scene amassing gold and multi-platinum albums. In contrast, few internationally renowned singers have experienced the agony and frustration that result from a devastating automobile accident and the very real prospects of permanent paraly- sis while at the zenith of their popularity. Johnnie Wilder's story then becomes one of dreams fulfilled and dreams deferred. But most important, it is a moving testimony of hope, coverage, and faith in God, set to the melody of his inspirational and innovative mu- sic. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Johnnie's principal alliance with music was his involvement with his high school glee club. After graduating, he served three years in the military in Germany and formed a five man vocal group that performed primarily in military and civilian clubs in the surrounding area. After their tour of duty ended, the original group started to disband, but a small nucleus migrated to West Germany where they restruc- tured under various names, then Heat Wave to Johnnie Wilder Jr. and the Chicago Heat- wave. With the addition of a talented performer, (whose credits include having written "Thriller" and "Off The Wall" for Michael Jackson), their band actively per- formed throughout Europe, acquiring an enviable reputation and loyal following at every stop. Eventually, the band relocated to England, shortened its name back to Heatwave and began to attract attention with the release of an original single entitled, "Boogie Nights". By the time the song had reached #1 in London, CBS records were already nego- tiating a lucrative international distribution deal with GTO records, the group's London la- bel. The rest was history. The next single, "Always and Forever" propelled Too Hot To Handle to sales over three million units. With the singles "Grooveline" and "Mind Blowing Decisions" blazing the path, Central Heating also achieved multi-platinum status in 1978. As Heatwave began producing its third album, Hot Property, in recording studios located in various parts of the world, the future could not have looked brighter to Johnnie Wilder. That was before he decided to take advantage of a break in the hectic recording schedule to visit family and friends in his hometown of Dayton. As quickly as the plane could land, a car could be rented, and he could drive downtown, Johnnie's future, as he perceived it at the time, was over. The very moment that an out of control van totaled Johnnie's car, he was paralyzed with no body movement below the neck. It was a year before he was released from the hospital. Yet immediately, he demonstrated his amazing resilience. Though confided to a wheelchair, he traveled on Heatwave's European tour, and even recorded lead and background vocals on its fourth and fifth albums. As sudden and staggering a fashion as the accident had altered Johnnie's physical condition four years earlier, an equally unexpected, equally dramatic, but expressly more important spiri- tual transformation was about to take place within his soul. This change, ignited by a se- ries of deep discussions with a close friend in Dayton and accelerated when he began to visit his younger brother's church, eventually led to Johnnie Wilder being saved in 1983. So complete with his conversion, Johnnie willingly relinquished his contractual interests in Heatwave then he sent them off to record another album with his blessings, but this time without his participation. The next few years were a time of intense contem- plation, reprioritizing, and physical therapy. The love and support of his wife Rosalyn and daughter Carla, both of whom also became saved, was a key factor that brought Johnnie through. Despite the radical shift in his public stature and earning power, Johnnie remem- bers being able to put the Heatwave days in perspective for the first time. "I know what I achieved and appreciate the benefits I received from being in Heatwave. But one thing I didn't have was the level of personal gratification that I now experience", he says. In the midst of this newfound peace, there was also an ongoing struggle regarding the decision to put the artistic expression that had been so much apart of his life on hold. "There were times when I went back and forth about whether or not to continue singing, without ever coming up with a conclusive answer". he recalls. At just that point of vacillation, Johnnie was asked to produce "Straight Com- pany", a vocal group with a beautiful and spirited sound who were in search of a producer. Less than a year after their collaboration, Johnnie found himself in the studio recording his first solo effort entitled "My Goal". In 1996 he released his second solo project entitled "One More Day", yet another collection of wonderfully constructed vocal arrangements which showcase Johnnie Wilder, Jr. at his musical best. Once again, his pure vocals and crisp overdubs almost make you forget that there are no instruments to be heard except a superior, divinely anointed voice. Since then Johnnie (previously nominated for two Grammy awards) has pro- duced eight other vocal artists, is the recipient of four CAMA awards and has become one of the most sought after producers of acappella gospel music in the country. Like many gospel artists, his motivation is simply stated, "I seek no glory or admiration, initially I just wanted to do a project to God's glory, he affirms. That initial effort had left an indelible im- print on the sound of acappella music in the world. "Each person has their own testimony about how they came to the Lord. The music that I'm doing is my way of giving thanks to God for even being alive. I glorify God, today, I can say with confidence that I have no regrets about how my life has gone", he boldly assures. Certainly the millions who will be blessed as a result of what Johnnie Wilder, Jr. has to share will be blessed to know that he feels that way.
