PROJECT DESCRIPTION………………………………………...... 1 SHOW...... 2 ROOTS REGGAE Master Jam contest (2019- 2020 edition )...... 3

PROJECT DESCRIPTION created Reggae music and used it as a means of survival and as a weapon against oppression and injustice. We use Reggae to promote and enhance love, peace, unity, consciousness, spirituality, Pan-Africanism, and the development of the continent of Africa itself. Reggae was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List of intangible cultural asset to be preserved in 2018.By this recognition, UNESCO has called on the world community to the active promotion of dialogue between cultures and generations through reggae music of Jamaica. UNESCO said of reggae, “Its contribution to international discourse on issues of injustice, resistance, love and humanity underscores the dynamics of the element as being at once cerebral, socio-political, sensual and spiritual.” While in its embryonic state, from ‘’ to ‘Rock steady’, reggae music was of the marginalized, the music is now played and embraced by a wide cross-section of society, including various genders, ethnic and religious groups. Its contribution to international discourse on issues of injustice, resistance, love and humanity underscores the dynamics of the element as being at once cerebral, socio-political, sensual and spiritual. The basic social functions of the music – as a vehicle for social commentary, a cathartic practice, and a means of praising God – have not changed, and the music continues to act as a voice for all.

In our efforts to promote and enhance African unity and the development of the Continent, Mikal Asher took the young Group from Ghana, known as Vibration Boys under his wings and exposed them to Reggae music on the next level. From this collaboration, Black Prophet and Commander Messiah have gone on to have successful solo careers outside Ghana. Fast forward to today, we see Jahmikal doing the same thing by working with Bernard Fiador, manager of the Luther King Band to bring out the best in this group of young talent. Mikal Asher’s nephew, Gramps Morgan has also been the face and ambassador for the PANAFEST Celebration. Gramps also holds a music clinic in Ghana every year. In the words of Mikal, “The Morgan family has been Blessed with the gift of music and because of our deep love and commitment to Africa in a whole and specifically our Ancestral Roots in Ghana, we are honored to bring to you the Roots Reggae Festival and Master-Jam contest.”
