TO BE CORRECTED BY: OCTOBER 11, 2016

3.25(d) FACILITIES, GENERAL. An empty guinea pig enclosure is filled with feces and soiled bedding. Numerous flies were present in and around this enclosure. Feces and soiled bedding must be removed and properly disposed of to minimize vermin infestation, odors and disease hazards.

TO BE CORRECTED BY: OCTOBER 5, 2016

3.31(a)(1) SANITATION. The hamster and guinea pig racks are covered with grime, hair, dust, cobwebs and other debris. Racks should be cleaned on a regular basis to prevent such accumulations and to protect the health of the animals housed in these racks.

3.31(b) SANITATION. * Spilled bedding and dropping are present on the animal room floor as well as on a packing rack in front of the room.

* Four feed containers are covered in dirt and grime.

Spilled bedding and feces must be removed and the feed containers must be cleaned. A routine schedule to maintain the cleanliness of feed containers, packing racks, tables and floors must be established and maintained to ensure that the prescribed husbandry practices are facilitated for the health and well-being of all of the animals.

* All of the air handlers, in the mammal room, are no longer working. A portable air conditioner is present, however, it is not cooling the entire room.

* Two floor fans are also present to aid in air circulation, however, they are both covered with grime, dust and hair. The accumulation of grime, dust and hair blocks the fan covers thus rendering the efficiency of the flow of air.

The air handlers must be repaired and the fans must be cleaned to increase the efficiency of air flow to ensure that the animals are provided with adequate air temperatures for their health and well-being.

TO BE CORRECTED BY: OCTOBER 25, 2016

3.50(a) FACILITIES, GENERAL. An enclosure housing two rabbits has a wire floor that is secured to only one side wall. The opposite end of this wire floor is totally detached from the other side wall, thus leaving the floor sagging into the litter tray.

A support wheel on this rack is no longer attached and lying on the floor.

All six feed hoppers have rusty edges.

2.40(b)(2) ATTENDING VETERINARIAN AND ADEQUATE VETERINARY CARE (DEALERS AND EXHIBITORS). One, white female mini pot bellied pig was observed to have an intermittent severe protrusion of the lower jaw and foam accumulated on the side of her mouth. This deformity could be due to a congenital disorder or injury. The manager stated that this issue was observed a few weeks ago and notified the veterinarian. However, there was no diagnosis and treatment plan documented on file. This pig needs to seen by a licensed veterinarian to determine the diagnosis and implement an effective treatment plan for the facility to follow.

TO BE CORRECTED BY: 11 November 2016

3.131(c) REPEAT SANITATION. HOUSEKEEPING -

The following items are still in need of repair, replacement or removal-

*There is a detached metal strip on the inside of the coatimundi enclosure. This piece of metal could harm the coatimundis housed therein.

*The linoleum floor, in the room holding rabbits, guinea pigs, sugar gliders and a kinkajou, is still torn in several locations.

*The ceiling in this same room is detaching from the framework and sagging over enclosures.

*The tiled floor, in the male pot bellied pig enclosure, is missing several tiles thus exposing the concrete sub-floor.

Fecal material and other debris can accumulate in these damaged areas. The damaged linoleum and missing tiles must be removed, repaired or replaced to keep the floors in good repair in order to facilitate the prescribed husbandry practices.

*Additionally, the pot bellied pig's enclosure wall has been damaged with a knife. These holes leave the wall in disrepair.

*The accumulations of empty enclosures, tanks, boxes, household items, spilled bedding and other miscellaneous materials, that were stored haphazardly throughout the rear rooms of the facility, have been partially removed. The items that remain are better organized but remain stored in such a manner that creates areas that may harbor pests. These areas must be still be cleared and appropriately organized in order to facilitate the prescribed husbandry practices.

This inspection and exit briefing was conducted with the facility manager.
