Times given are for the start of the walk. Please allow time for parking and putting on boots etc. A maximum of two dogs are generally allowed on walks. Please contact the leader beforehand. Dogs must be on leads along roads or near livestock and under close control at all other times. All walks are at Rambler’s own risk. Neither the R.A. nor the leader can accept any responsibility for any accident or injuries which may occur during any of the group’s walks or other activities. Page 2 CHAIRMAN’S RAMBLINGS Welcome to our new programme of walks which takes us through the summer and into the autumn, and contains our usual variety of walks. We look forward to seeing you on some of these group walks, even if you usually prefer to walk independently. This August the group celebrates its 30th anniversary and to mark this occasion we are taking afternoon tea, including cakes and scones at Spencer’s Farm Shop in Wickham St Paul, preceded by an optional short walk. Further details are shown in the walks programme so please make a date in your diary for this event. In May eleven of the group spent a week walking along the Dorset coast and on the Purbeck Hills, staying at an idyllic location overlooking Corfe Castle. Apart from a short period of rain on the first day the weather was near perfect for walking, with sun hats essential by the end of the week. Photos of the holiday may be found on our facebook page. Behind the national headlines work quietly continues on the England Coast Path, including the Essex sections, with the support of Natural England, the Ramblers and other interested organisations. When finally completed in 2020 the 2795 mile long path will be the world's longest continuous coastal trail, no mean achievement in these times of so called “austerity”. Happy rambling! My second Ramblers holiday with the group, this was my first self catering, which was great as I am on a diet. The house was well equipped, all the cooking facilities you need, the two kitchens quite large especially for 5-6 people to prepare breakfast and packed lunches every day. Our first walk we went to Tyneham Village, just as we stopped for our tea break, it rained, all of the waterproofs came out, of which Clive had to assist me putting on my trousers!!! After walking for about 1 hour the rain stopped and the weather was beautiful, we stopped for lunch on the beach, we even had picnic benches to sit at. We set off to a very, very steep hill, when we got to the top MOTHER advised us of the knee tremble she had just experienced! • Parish Magazine of Earls Colne & White Colne
The Parish Magazine of Earls Colne & White Colne Bluebells in Chalkney Woods may 2021 I am writing this letter immediately after Easter and reflecting on the challenge of Jesus and the challenges that lie ahead for us. The month of May includes three significant dates: Ascension Day, Pentecost and Trinity Sunday, all of which are a challenge. On Ascension Day the reading tells us that Jesus said to his disciples: "you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1.8) We are promised the Holy Spirit but are then expected to use it to be a witness to Jesus. We celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and the poet Malcolm Guite captured the feeling of joy and release in his sonnet for Pentecost when he wrote: "Today we feel the wind beneath our wings" 1 The first disciples were so overwhelmed by the wonderful feelings of joy and liberation that they literally shouted the message of joy in Jesus in every language. That is the call that comes down the years to us. In the list of services, the day after Pentecost has the note that ordinary time resumes and we mark that the following Sunday, Trinity Sunday. The word 'ordinary' caused me to reflect on the last year that has been anything but 'ordinary' and significant challenges are still with us in 2021. The word 'ordinary' is defined as regular, commonplace, not exceptional but our life at this time does not look like these definitions.
