FOREWORD Ukraine supports the position to comply a global approach for monitoring and reducing of aviation emissions that includes implementation of the ICAO Resolution A37-19 provisions (Consolidated statement of continuing ICAO policies and practices related to environmental protection – Climate change), encourages States to submit their action plans outlining their respective policies and actions to achieve a global annual average fuel efficiency improvement of 2 per cent until 2020 and an aspirational global fuel efficiency improvement rate of 2 per cent per annum from 2021 to 2050. According to the decision of the European Civil Aviation Conference all ECAC Member States, including Ukraine, agreed to provide its National Plan to ICAO and coordinated the format of such plan. Zur Namenmotivation weltweiter Fluggesellschaften. American Airlines, Tiger Airways, Carpatair, Hello Adina-Lucia NISTOR Doz. Dr.; Alexandru-Ioan-Cuza-Universität Jassy; E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: The present study aims at analyzing the names of international airlines from the point of view of their ori- gin, being based on both Hengi’s list (2012), which con- sists of 340 names, and the Wikipedia.de list, which is made up of 833 proper names. The names of airlines could be considered nominal groups, consisting of an appellative nucleus, which describes the activity, and onomastic determiners, which particularize the activity of the company. The particularizing function of the names of international airlines does not consist in the meaning of the name, but in its noteworthiness, in the types of associations it triggers in the mind of the perceiver. Thusly, depending on the origin of names of international airlines, four types of constructions can be distinguished: 1. Airlines named after the people or the companies which own them (Antonov Airlines, NIKI Luftfahrt, Widerøe, TUIfly), 2. Airlines that have toponyms included in their names (Air France, Carpatair, Air Caraibes, Alaska Airlines, Air Pacific), 3. Symbol – names (Lion Air, Blue Air, Edelweiß Air, Pegasus Airlines, Silkair, Mandarin Airlines), 4. The statistics may be observed at the Figures 1-2. The data were obtained by analyzing information from the register of Ukrainian civil aircraft on 94 aircraft of 12 Ukrainian airlines.The youngest aircraft with Ukrainian registration is 2 months old (Boeing 737-800 UR - PSR UIA - July 2016), the oldest is 50 years old (An-12B UR-11819 Motor Sich 1966). 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Figure 1. Age of Ukrainian fleet Only 10 out of 94 aircraft are less than 5 years old and all of them are in the UIA fleet. The average age of the airline's fleet increased from 12,3 years in 2013 to 12.97 years in 2016. UIA's oldest airliners are the cargo Boeing 737-300 UR-FAA (27 years old) , all 4 long-haul Boeing 767s (UR-GEA, UR-GEB, UR-GEC, UR- GEB, 23-25 years old ) and 5 Boeing 737s -500 (UR-GAk, UR-GAS, UR-GAT, UR- 295 GAU, UR-GAW 23-25 years old ).
