Model and Talent Premiere CONNECT NYCModel and Talent Premiere Welcome performers and families! Please read this letter. Welcome to the Big Apple! Our goal is to spotlight you in front of New York’s top agents. Our show has been carefully designed based on how agents prefer to scout new talent. We have taken many trips to NY with our talent and it’s based on this experience that we have designed our show. We will be cheering for you tonight! Monday Rehearsals & Show Info: Monday afternoon is dedicated to rehearsals. Call time for show line up Monday is 7:30 PM. A VIP reception is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 PM for agents and mother agents only. No one will be allowed downstairs during this time. We cannot accommodate parents, observers or performers until 7:30 PM. That means you can not arrive early to “hang out” in the theater. At 7:30, we will allow everyone to come downstairs to the theater. During the show, we will not allow any parents in the Green Room/Dressing Room. It’s too distracting to have parents moving about the theater during the performance and we want each performer to have their moment without interruptions. Our show director, Karilena, will be back stage with the performers, so we ask parents to sit back and enjoy the show. Event Photos: Our event photographer is Luke Andrews, former high fashion model with Boss Models, NY and Flash Models, Milan, Italy. Luke will be shooting a “photo documentary” of our event Monday night. You are welcome to take pictures with your smart devices, but professional photography is not allowed. If you post your pictures on social media, please use #connectNYCevent so we can share in the fun, too! If you decide to purchase the photo package, Luke will email a link to your high-resolution images via Dropbox. His order forms are included in this packet. If you would like to order your personal portfolio and photo documentary, please complete and return the form to Luke. He will be available in the theater throughout the event. You may also email him [email protected] Times Square Photo Shoots: If you would like to participate in the Times Square photo shoot, please see Luke in the lobby or text him 407-587-6728. Luke will schedule a private appointment for the performer and their families to shoot in Times Square, weather pending. Please refer to the form in your packet for more information. Tips for Parents & Performers: Lastly, we want you to know that you are not in competition with each other. There is no set limit to how many models or talent an agent can sign. There is no need to compare your self with another. If we may go a step further, there is no need for parents to compare their children with others. No one wants to deal with negativity or jealousy, so let’s make a pact that we will all be positive! You are all here in pursuit of your dream. So, rather than be jealous of another, why not befriend one another? It’s not often you find someone to share your dreams with. Break a leg tonight! Wishing you all success! • Everything Began with the Movie Moulin Rouge (2001)
Introduction Everything began with the movie Moulin Rouge (2001). Since I was so obsessed with this hit film, I couldn’t but want to know more about this particular genre - musical films. Then I started to trace the history of this genre back to Hollywood’s classical musical films. It’s interesting that musical films have undergone several revivals and are usually regarded as the products of escapism. Watching those protagonists singing and dancing happily, the audience can daydream freely and forget about the cruel reality. What are the aesthetic artifices of this genre so enchanting that it always catches the eye of audience generation after generation? What kinds of ideal life do these musical films try to depict? Do they (musical films) merely escape from reality or, as a matter of fact, implicitly criticize the society? In regard to the musical films produced by Hollywood, what do they reflect the contemporary social, political or economic situations? To investigate these aspects, I start my research project on the Hollywood musical film genre from the 1950s (its Classical Period) to 2002. However, some people might wonder that among all those Hollywood movies, what is so special about the musical films that makes them distinguish from the other types of movies? On the one hand, the musical film genre indeed has several important contributions to the Hollywood industry, and its influence never wanes even until today. In need of specialty for musical film production, many talented professional dancers and singers thus get the chances to join in Hollywood and prove themselves as great actors (actresses), too.

  • A Native Spanglish Speaker, Bill Santiago Is the First Born Of
Bill Santiago – Bio Bill Santiago is the first born of at least four children. He became a standup after narrowly escaping a career in journalism, facing the fact that as a comedian he was funny, but as a reporter he was a joke. It’s been said he was born to Puerto Rican immigrants, which is technically untrue, as Puerto Ricans are US citizens. Although, he’s got an uncle who was once deported to the Bronx. With the premiere of his first television special, “Comedy Central Presents: Bill Santiago,” he won over fans nationwide with his dead-on observations about Spanglish – “twice the vocabulary and half the grammar!” and his beloved catchphrase “¡Porque because!” Notably, his special premiered May 5, Cinco de Mayo, in a shrewd programming decision to attract a wider Latino audience, despite his not being Mexican (allowable under the “close enough” clause in his contract). Soon after, Santiago landed his first book deal, to write “Pardon My Spanglish,” based on his act and promising laughs for Latinos and the Latino-curious. He has also appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” “Que Locos,” “American Latino,” and is scheduled to appear on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” this fall. Last year, he hosted the Latin Grammy Person of the Year Award ceremony, honoring Juan Luis Guerra (the tallest Dominican he’s ever met), at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. Formerly an awarding-winning journalist (despite his worst efforts), he contributed regularly to newspapers including the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Boston Globe and Philadelphia Inquirer.

Deadair Dennis (00:00): Thank you so much for downloading this episode of, So What Do You Really Do? The podcasts where I, your host, Deadair Dennis Maler, speak to artists and entertainers about their day jobs. And on the podcast today is not just a comedian, not just an actor, not just a writer for TV, but he is also the probably I'm going to, I'm going to give him the title of the best comedy historian out there. Mr. Wayne Federman, author of the History of Stand-up. Wayne Federman is a comedian you would recognize his face if you saw him, he's been on a lot of things, small roles on movies and TV shows here and there. You would definitely recognize him. In fact, we even opened up the podcast talking about some of his acting roles. I'm so glad that I got to talk to him on here because he had a podcast about the history of stand-up and it was delightful to hear. And now that he's written a book about the history of stand-up, that expels expands expels, no, it doesn't expel. Cause that would be throwing things out. It expands more of the history that you would've heard on the podcast. So if you're a fan of stand-up comedy and you want to know the roots of stand-up comedy or where things came, or you just want to get more knowledge about other comedians, the book is a perfect place for you to start reading on that.
