Morphologically, the genus is heterogeneous and has been postulated to constitute a polyphyletic taxon. In the present study, most species of Parasesarma are re-evaluated phylogenetically, using mitochondrial and nuclear molecular markers. The results show that the majority of the examined species cluster consistently with the type species Parasesarma plicatum. However, some species, among them the tree-climbing Parasesarma leptosoma, are clearly separated from this main clade of Parasesarma, forming a second stable monophyletic group, distinct from other known genera. Based on these results, and with additional support by morphological diagnoses highlighting consistent differences between the two species groups, we propose a new genus for the species clustering around P. leptosoma, proposing the new name Leptarma gen. nov. Journal of BIOLOGICAL RESEARCHES ISSN: 08526834 | E-ISSN:2337-389X Volume 22| No. 2| June | 2017 Original Article Crab communities (Decapoda: Brachyura) in mangrove and estuaries in the Eastern Part of Lombok Island Dewi Citra Murniati Zoology Division, Research Center of Biology, Indonesian Institute of Science Abstract Mangroves and estuary ecosystem in East Lombok which are appointed as Local Marine Conservation Areas (Kawasan Konservasi Laut Daerah/KKLD) are Gili Lawang, Gili Sulat, Sambelia and Jerowaru districts. Inventory of aquatic fauna in mangroves and estuaries is one of the important components of the marine conservation program. The objective of this study is to determine crab species composition in mangroves and estuaries of eastern Lombok during the East Lombok KKLD program. Targeted area for this study includes Gili Lawang, Gili Sulat in southern Lombok Island, Sugian in Sambelia, Ekas Beach, Tanjung Luar and Seriwe in Jerowaru, and Kidang in western Jerowaru. The crab was collected at 0 m to 100 m of seashore by digging the burrow. The crab community recorded was analyzed for resulting the Diversity, Evenness and Similarity Index. Ten families with 35 species of crab were found from two ecosystem types, mangrove and estuary. Each location has different diversity of ecosystem and habitat. The highest diversity is recorded in Kidang and Seriwe, while the lowest diversity in Gili Sulat. Species diversity is associated with ecosystem and habitat type diversity. Kidang and Seriwe has the highest ecosystem and habitat diversity, while Gili Sulat has the lowest diversity. In addition, the population of Ocypodidae is accounted as the dominant crab family for which Austruca perplexa is the dominant species. -

The conspicuous and speciose genus Perisesarma De Man, 1895 is among the most taxonomically complex and problematic taxa of the family. This genus was suspected to be a polyphyletic taxon, comprising morphologically heterogeneous species. Moreover, some members of the genus have a close phylogenetic relationship with the sister genus Parasesarma De Man, 1895 and show many morphological similarities, except for the existence of an epibranchial tooth in Perisesarma. Therefore, the present study intends to evaluate the monophyly of Perisesarma and reconstruct phylogenetic relationships in comparison to Parasesarma by examining a variety of morphological characters and comparing them with results from molecular markers. Up to four genetic marker with different evolutionary mutation rates were used for different parts of this study. -

ABSTRACT Two new species of Neosarmatium, N. papuense n. sp. and N. bidentatum n. sp., KEY WORDS are described from mangrove environments in the Timika region, Papua, In- Crustacea, Decapoda, donesia. Neosarmatium papuense n. sp. is characterized by the presence of two Grapsoidea, chitinous teeth, and one non-chitinous tooth, closely set proximally on the dorsal Sesarmidae, Neosarmatium, surface of the dactyl of the cheliped. Th e closest species is N. trispinosum Davie, mangrove, 1994, which has three chitinous teeth on the dorsal surface of the dactyl of the Papua, cheliped. Neosarmatium bidentatum n. sp. diff ers from other species by having Indonesia, Western Pacifi c, only two dorsal teeth on the proximal quarter of the dactyl of the cheliped as new species. well as diff erences in abdomen and carapace proportions.
